Chapter 986: Prime Minister Harker's Fear
Chapter 986: Prime Minister Harker's Fear
Even so, it took Harker quite a while to truly accept this reality. Although Wizards and Magic still seemed incredible to him, the evidence was now right in front of his eyes, leaving no room for doubt.
After barely managing to calm his turbulent emotions, Harker suddenly realized his current predicament.
It wasn't just because he was accompanied by a terrifying Wizard; more importantly, he, the Prime Minister of Britain, was now standing openly on the Arc de Triomphe, with hundreds of tourists milling about below. Harker could already imagine what the headlines of tomorrow's newspapers would be.
However, what puzzled him was that they had been standing there for quite some time, yet the tourists below seemed to have not noticed their presence at all. Many people were taking photos right under the Arc de Triomphe, yet no one had detected anything out of the ordinary, as if they simply didn't exist.
"What's going on? Can't they see us?" Harker couldn't help but ask.
"You can consider this one of the effects of Magic!" Ivan explained with a smile.
The moment they arrived via Portkey, Ivan had silently cast a Confundus Charm and erected a Magic Barrier in front of them, which distorted light to prevent being captured by cameras. Naturally, Muggles couldn't detect their presence.
Harker glanced at the crowd below, then thought about how Ivan had effortlessly brought him out of the Prime Minister's Office. A wave of fear and apprehension washed over him.
Ivan was the first Wizard he had ever known, and the Magic power displayed by the other party was far beyond his imagination.
Harker even suspected that if Ivan were truly intent on killing him, the highest executive of Britain, he wouldn't stand a chance, even if he hid in a nuclear bunker.
The feeling of his life being in someone else's hands was undoubtedly unbearable, especially for a Prime Minister who had worked tirelessly for decades to reach the pinnacle of power, only to now learn that there were Wizards in the world who could easily threaten his personal safety.
Harker was filled with fear, but he tried to maintain his composure, preserving the dignity and face of a Prime Minister. He didn't want to show any weakness in front of Ivan...
Moreover, he could guess that Ivan likely had no ill intentions towards him; otherwise, there would have been no need for all this talk.
"Hals... Master? You said you came to answer my questions?" Harker mustered his courage and asked in a slightly trembling voice, then remembered that Ivan had introduced himself as a British Wizard, so he added, "Do Wizards exist in other countries as well?"
"Of course, Wizards are a community spread across the entire world!" Ivan explained softly.
"Then why have I never discovered the existence of Wizards before?" Harker asked urgently, this being the most perplexing question for him. If there were many Wizards, it would have been impossible to keep them hidden.
"Because most Wizards live peacefully within the Wizarding World..." Ivan had no intention of hiding anything. Under Harker's puzzled gaze, he succinctly explained the basic situation of the Wizarding World—information that the British Prime Minister had the right to know.
Hearing that there was a magical Wizarding World beneath the normal world he lived in, a world with creatures like Dragons and Unicorns, Hack felt a mix of shock and a hint of longing.
However, this emotion quickly dissipated as Ivan began to explain the various policies of the Wizarding World.
Upon learning that Wizards often used Memory Charms to erase the memories of Muggles who accidentally witnessed magic, Hack was both shocked and furious.
Who gave these Wizards the right to arbitrarily alter and delete the memories of the public...
If he could, Hack would have shouted his rebuke, but considering the incredible magic Ivan had demonstrated, he swallowed his words with great effort.
The only thing that brought him some relief was that, according to Ivan, these powerful Wizards were effectively controlled and could not act recklessly in the world. They were restricted by various laws and regulations.
While these laws were also written by Wizards, Hack understood the importance of this order. As long as they were willing to follow the rules, politicians like himself would have room to maneuver.
"Since every British Prime Minister has the right to know about the Wizarding World, why am I only finding out about it now?" Hack's tone carried a hint of dissatisfaction.
This was a deliberate probe on his part. Although such a move could bring some danger, he wanted to gauge how much weight he carried as a Muggle Prime Minister.
Of course, Ivan could easily see through Hack's thoughts.
On such a minor issue, Ivan was willing to appear more amiable to soothe the Prime Minister, who appeared calm on the surface but was inwardly anxious. So he did not take offense at Hack's slightly offensive question and explained calmly.
"The Wizarding World has recently encountered some trouble, which is why we had to postpone our meeting with you."
"However, normally, Buckingham Palace and your predecessor should have informed you about these matters", Ivan added, careful not to take the blame himself and instead shifting the responsibility onto the informed Muggle leaders.
As expected, Hack's face immediately showed a hint of irritation, attributing his earlier discomfort to the irresponsible former Prime Ministers. Even though he had used some underhanded tactics during the election, which had strained their relationship, they should not have kept such important information from him.
"By the way, you mentioned that your Wizards are facing some trouble?" Hack asked curiously.
For some reason, when this topic came up, Hack felt a sense of secret delight. He realized that even Wizards with magic had problems they couldn't handle, which significantly reduced his fear.
"Unfortunately, Prime Minister, I believe this is not just a problem for Wizards..." Ivan shrugged and continued, "To put it bluntly, a radical threat escaped from prison over a year ago and is now gathering supporters to incite a war between Wizards and ordinary people!"
