Chapter 985: The Only Explanation Is—Magic!
Chapter 985: The Only Explanation Is—Magic!
Sigh... When this possibility crossed his mind, Hake couldn't help but sigh.
Although he had taken on the role of Prime Minister, he always felt that things were not going as he wished, and the mysteries around him were only growing more numerous.
Sometimes, Hake even suspected that he was the protagonist of a Truman Show, with everyone around him acting in a grand conspiracy against him...
"Do you need me to clarify things for you, Prime Minister Master?"
Suddenly, a low voice echoed in the spacious and quiet office.
Hake, who had been lost in thought, jumped in his seat, nearly frightened out of his wits.
"Who's there?" Hake shouted, turning his head toward the source of the voice, his left hand already reaching for a button under his desk.
The man standing before him was a stranger, or rather, a boy. Judging by his slightly youthful face, Hake doubted the intruder was even an adult.
"How did you get in here?" Hake didn't underestimate the young man just because of his age. Recognizing the unfamiliar face, he immediately pressed the button.
According to the Cabinet Secretary, pressing this emergency button would immediately alert all the guards and agents at the Prime Minister's Residence, who would rush in at once.
However, after waiting for a moment, nothing happened. The man standing opposite him continued to smile warmly, and Hake's heart sank.
"I have no ill intentions, Prime Minister Hake. I'm here today to answer some of your questions", Ivan said calmly, taking a few steps closer.
Hake didn't believe a word Ivan said. After discovering the button's failure, he became even more suspicious that Ivan was an assassin sent by an opposing political party.
It was even possible that his Cabinet Secretary had been bought off. Otherwise, there was no way to explain how Ivan had bypassed all the security measures, hidden in his office, and disabled the emergency button.
Thinking further, Hake even imagined how they would divert public attention after his death. They would certainly blame it on the recent surge in terrorist attacks.
However, the death of the British Prime Minister in his office would be a massive scandal no matter what...
Sensing Hake's thoughts, Ivan felt a bit exasperated. To avoid any deeper misunderstandings and potential trouble, he spoke up.
"It seems you have some doubts about my identity, Prime Minister Master."
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am a Wizard from the British Wizarding World and currently serve as Acting President of the International Confederation of Wizards. You can call me Hals!" Ivan bowed slightly, speaking politely.
"Wizarding World... Wiz... Wizards?!" Hake felt utterly bewildered. Despite his above-average intelligence, he couldn't comprehend what was happening.
Was he hallucinating? Or was this man actually insane?
"You heard correctly. I am a Wizard, one who wields Magic!" Ivan said, extending his index finger and tapping the thermos on the table.
Under Hake's astonished gaze, the thermos transformed rapidly, and a moment later, a black raven appeared before him.
The mysterious scene before him clearly exceeded Hake's understanding. Suddenly, the Raven flapped its wings and swooped toward him, nearly causing Hake to fall off his chair. However, the Raven had no intention of harming him; it simply perched quietly on his shoulder.
Ivan, seemingly oblivious to Hake's disheveled state, maintained an expressionless face and spoke softly, "Aren't you going to test if it's real? Prime Minister..."
Hake struggled to calm his inner terror. He glanced at Ivan, hesitated for a moment, and then tentatively reached out to touch the Raven on his shoulder.
The smooth, slippery texture of the feathers confirmed his touch, and to his surprise, the Raven even friendly nudged its head against his fingers.
"Is this Magic? Or a trick?" Hake asked, holding onto the last shred of hope. He was beginning to believe Ivan's words, but years of scientific understanding reminded him that Magic shouldn't exist, and he had never heard of Wizards before.
Could there be another explanation? Perhaps the boy before him had used some method to deceive his vision, much like the incredible magic tricks he had seen before, using specific techniques to create visual illusions.
Ivan sighed in exasperation. He understood that for a Prime Minister who was skeptical and deeply rooted in science, accepting the existence of Magic wouldn't be easy.
However, Ivan didn't have the patience for extensive explanations. Facts often spoke louder than words. So, he quickly extended his hand and snapped his fingers. An endless wave of flames erupted from his body, enveloping Hake as well.
At that moment, Hake almost thought the other was about to blow him up with some powerful explosive, ready to take him down with him. But when the flames reached him, Hake realized something was different. Despite being covered in flames, he felt no pain, only comfort.
As the flames dissipated, Hake, the Prime Minister, regained his senses. The scene before him had changed.
The surroundings were vast and open. He stood on a small platform, looking down at a large square below. In the distance, towering buildings rose, and the magnificent Eiffel Tower soon came into view.
This is... Paris?
Hake's pupils dilated as he quickly confirmed his location. They were standing atop one of Paris's landmarks, the Arc de Triomphe!
During his early tenure, he had visited France once and had made several official trips since then. He was familiar with Paris, so he immediately recognized the place.
"Could you possibly think this is a trick, Prime Minister Hake?" Ivan said with a teasing tone, gently placing his hand on Hake's shoulder to prevent him from accidentally falling off the Arc de Triomphe.
"No, no! I believe you, Wizard Master..." Hake hurriedly shook his head, fearing that a single word of disbelief might prompt the other to perform another spell that could shatter his worldview, or worse, turn him into a rabbit or a frog like in those stories?
Hake had no desire to experience such a fate.
Most importantly, he was now 100% convinced of Ivan's words. The other had transported him from the Prime Minister's Residence in Britain to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in just a couple of seconds. This was far beyond the realm of magic tricks and illusion spells. The only explanation was—Magic!
