Chapter 981: Intelligence from France
Chapter 981: Intelligence from France
A week passed in the blink of an eye, and the three consecutive evaluations concluded quickly.
The Werewolf Wizards performed as Ivan had expected, most achieving impressive results. Fenrir, in particular, defeated numerous opponents and passed all evaluations with top marks.
What Ivan didn't anticipate, however, was that another Wizard's performance would rival Fenrir's—Colin Morton, the most renowned Auror in the Nordic region.
Like Fenrir, Colin Morton also excelled in all three evaluations and was a rare Animagus, demonstrating flawless skills in the tracking and anti-tracking evaluation.
Ivan, of course, wouldn't let past disagreements overshadow Colin Morton's achievements. He decided to establish two Deputy Minister of Magic positions and promoted both Fenrir and Colin to these roles, ensuring they would keep each other in check.
As for the remaining six hundred Wizards, Ivan divided them into teams of five, with the top performers from the evaluations serving as team leaders. He also announced a 50% salary increase for everyone starting that week.
The fifty or so Wizards who failed the evaluations were not spared; Ivan sent them back without hesitation.
With this overhaul, the once lax department was quickly molded into a cohesive unit. The only downside was the daily influx of dozens of letters from various Ministers of Magic, mostly criticizing Ivan for not following the rules.
Conner even visited several times that week, gently reminding Ivan that he should consult with the other Ministers of Magic before adding new positions and making large-scale personnel changes.
Ivan, of course, ignored all these requests, citing the urgency of the situation as a reason to brush them off.
And indeed, the situation was urgent. Grindelwald wouldn't give them the time to slowly consolidate their forces.
Although the Acolytes had been relatively quiet for the past week, Ivan was certain they were planning something in the shadows. After the last battle, Grindelwald was undoubtedly injured, but a week was more than enough time for him to recover.
Given this, after reorganizing the forces, Ivan issued orders for the teams to search for Grindelwald and the Acolytes in the regions where they were most active, operating in teams of five.
"Sir Hals, if we really encounter Grindelwald, a single team might not be able to relay the information back!" Colin Morton expressed his concern.
The other Aurors also looked worried. While they didn't know the full extent of Grindelwald's power, they had a sense of it from Ivan's experiences. Over eighty elite Wizards couldn't last a few minutes against him, so Grindelwald, even if not as strong as Ivan, was still formidable.
If the teams were to encounter ordinary Death Eaters, they might fare better, but facing Grindelwald would likely leave them with no chance to escape.
"Don't worry. I'll leave a Magic Mark on each of you. If you encounter a problem you can't handle, you can notify me directly, and I'll come to your aid immediately", Ivan explained calmly.
The Magic Mark was a reward Ivan received for completing a System Task. After some experimentation, he had discovered more uses for it.
Now, this Marking Spell no longer allows for one-way communication with him alone. Everyone who has been branded with the mark can communicate with each other, passing on information or requesting support. It's almost like a Magic version of a mobile phone, and it's even more convenient.
Under Ivan's introduction, the Aurors present gradually put aside their initial concerns. With such Magic, they would undoubtedly be much safer during their quests...
This peaceful period lasted for over half a month. While over six hundred Aurors were searching tirelessly for Grindelwald's whereabouts, a sudden piece of news came through.
"You mean to say that the entire French Ministry of Magic might have been taken over by Grindelwald? Can you confirm that? If it's true, why haven't we heard any news?" Ivan furrowed his brow as he listened to Pierce's report.
"We haven't confirmed it yet. These pieces of information were provided by a female Auror from France." Pierce explained. "Earlier, you asked me to keep a close eye on the situation there. One of our informants, while on a quest, happened to discover that this woman was being pursued by several French Aurors. Since she knows you, I sent people to rescue her, and we obtained this information from her."
"A female Auror? Someone I know? Who is it?" Ivan paused, and then a figure suddenly came to mind. "It couldn't be Fleur Delacour, could it?"
"Indeed, it is her!" Pierce said with a serious expression. "Ms. Delacour was seriously injured in battle and is currently recuperating at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. Do you want to see her?"
"Of course!" Ivan hesitated for a moment, then nodded. While it wasn't ideal to disturb an injured person, if the information was true, Fleur would undoubtedly have many useful details.
With that in mind, Ivan didn't waste any time. He took Pierce and Apparated away from the spot.
Ivan had visited St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries a few years ago, so he knew his way around. When they reappeared, they were already in the head Healer's office.
Perhaps due to the recent increase in patients, Healer Bohn wasn't there. Ivan didn't mind and simply grabbed a passing Healer to guide them.
They ascended the stairs and walked through a narrow corridor, where Healers in green robes were constantly moving in and out of the wards. Ivan noticed that every open room was filled with patients, and he could faintly hear the sounds of suffering and moans.
Ivan sighed. He understood the reason for this all too well.
Over the past three years, the British Wizarding World had experienced several upheavals, with nearly one-tenth of the Wizards perishing in the conflicts, and the number of injured was countless. It was fortunate that Grindelwald hadn't directly targeted Britain; otherwise, the toll would have been even higher.
This war cannot drag on any longer... Ivan thought to himself, his pace unwavering as he quickly reached the fifth floor, the Spell Damage Ward.
Ivan pushed open the door and scanned the room. He immediately spotted Fleur lying on a bed in the corner.
At first glance, Ivan almost didn't recognize her. Her once fair and beautiful face was now marred by burns, with unsightly blisters covering half of it.
