Chapter 98: Battling a Level 2 Disaster Beast (Please Keep Reading!)
Jiang Tao felt like the unluckiest person alive today.
He had finally managed to take his sister shopping at Wanda Plaza and planned to catch a movie. But the moment he received his custom-made Battle Saber, a spatial rift suddenly tore open while they were walking down Golden Street, ruining all his plans.
The Disaster Beast stormed through the portal and attacked the crowd. To protect his sister, Jiang Tao had no choice but to draw his Battle Saber and engage the monster in brutal combat.
…
“Brother Qi, you’re here too?!”
Jiang Tao’s face lit up with surprise. Covered in dust and blood, he stood gripping his Battle Saber, his menacing aura palpable. Beside him, Jiang Miaoyin stood resolute, her fear tempered by newfound confidence.
“Hiss~”
A pitch-black shadow erupted from a corner behind the store, blurring into motion.
“Watch out!” Lin Qi shouted.
Jiang Tao sensed the danger and instinctively swung his Battle Saber behind him.
“Boom!”
The blade struck home, carving a deep, bloody gash.
“Boom!!”
“Mew~”
The shadow slammed into the ground, blood spraying as it shrieked in pain. It was a cat-like Disaster Beast the size of a calf, its fur jet-black and movements lightning-fast.
“It’s a Shadow Cat—it’s lightning-quick and specializes in ambushes,” Jiang Miaoyin spat, clenching her teeth.
“Pft!!”
Jiang Tao rushed forward and delivered a finishing blow, ending the Shadow Cat’s life.
Lin Qi nodded in approval. Jiang Tao had exceeded his expectations—his reflexes were sharp, his composure unshaken. His combat instincts were exceptional, hinting at untapped potential.
“Brother Qi, how was that?” Jiang Tao grinned.
“Not bad!” Lin Qi acknowledged.
“You bet!” Jiang Tao’s smile widened.
“No time to chat. Let’s hold this position together—Miaoyin, get to the back kitchen now!”
“Understood!”
Jiang Tao and Jiang Miaoyin exchanged a glance before nodding in unison.
“Hiss!!”
Before they could move, a thunderous roar split the air. A massive shadow burst from the mall like a speeding freight train.
Lin Qi felt the danger and his expression darkened.
Jiang Tao turned—and paled. The beast’s speed was terrifying, its single obsidian horn glinting with deadly coldness. A direct hit would crush his vital organs instantly. He immediately raised his blade to block.
The creature was a boar-like Disaster Beast, slightly smaller than an Ironthorn Boar but far more agile. Its speed surpassed even the Mawfang Hound, its strength even greater.
A Level 2 Disaster Beast—the Obsidian Horn Boar.
“Boom!!”
“Clang~”
The Obsidian Horn Boar’s horn struck the Battle Saber, slicing through the blade but transferring immense force to Jiang Tao’s body.
“Crash!!”
Jiang Tao flew backward, crashing through four tables inside the hotpot restaurant before finally skidding to a halt.
“Brother!!” Jiang Miaoyin screamed.
“I’m fine!” Jiang Tao groaned, slowly lifting his aching arm. Every bone felt broken.
Suddenly, a voice barked, “Watch out!!”
“Boom!!”
Jiang Miaoyin felt death’s cold breath as the Obsidian Horn Boar shifted targets. Its horn aimed straight for her.
Her eyes widened as the beast closed in. She spun to flee—but too slowly.
Just as panic set in, a thunderous roar echoed.
“Monster, die!!”
Lin Qi lunged forward, his massive spear raised high. Channeling his strength, he surged with energy as his blood boiled. His muscles tensed, his spine straightened, and his body surged with power far beyond normal limits.
His spear descended like a mountain-shattering thunderclap—
“Mountain-Shattering Spear Method” technique: “Mountain-Shattering Cleave!”
The silver spear tip blazed like a comet, slamming toward the Obsidian Horn Boar’s head.
“Clang!!”
The beast turned, its horn clashing against Lin Qi’s spear in a shower of sparks before the weapon struck its skull.
“Boom!!”
Two thunderous impacts later, the Obsidian Horn Boar’s head slammed into the ground.
“Raaagh~”
Lin Qi frowned. The horn had absorbed most of the strike, and the creature’s skull proved shockingly durable. Was this the power of a Level 2 Disaster Beast? Compared to Ironthorn Boars, Mawfang Hounds, or Shadow Cats, this was in a completely different league.
The Obsidian Horn Boar shook its head furiously, its eyes flashing with cruel amusement.
“Haaagh~”
Suddenly, Jiang Miaoyin rushed to Jiang Tao’s side. “Lin Qi, there’s another one!”
Lin Qi turned sharply. A second black shadow charged from the distance—another Obsidian Horn Boar, even larger and more muscular than the first.
For Disaster Beasts, size meant power. This one was clearly stronger.
The second beast’s terrifying aura spread as it closed in. Now, two Level 2 Obsidian Horn Boars encircled Lin Qi.
In the back kitchen, Fang Huiyi gripped a towel anxiously. “Two Level 2s… Little Qi’s in danger.”
Lin Zhen tried to reassure her. “Don’t worry. Qi’s a true prodigy. He’ll be fine.”
Even as he spoke, his heart pounded. This second beast was monstrous for its tier—could his son, inexperienced in real combat, survive?
“Haha! Picking on my classmates at Second High?” A booming voice interrupted.
A muscular figure charged from the shadows, shirtless, revealing a chiseled torso marked by bloody claw scars. He wielded a bloodstained fire axe, his grin savage.
Lin Qi blinked—Li Zhou, the top-ranked student, had arrived.
The hotpot restaurant’s front and back doors were now breached, each guarded by a towering Obsidian Horn Boar. A tense silence gripped the battlefield.
“Lin Qi, I’ll take this one,” Li Zhou declared.
Without waiting for a reply, he charged headlong at one beast, his axe swinging.
Lin Qi didn’t protest. He spun, lunging at the other Obsidian Horn Boar with his spear.
Who would’ve thought the top three students of Second High would clash—and unite—in this chaotic showdown?
“Haaagh~”
The Obsidian Horn Boar thundered forward like an armored tank, its horn piercing the air.
Lin Qi leapt sideways with monkey-like agility.
“Boom!!”
The beast crashed into the restaurant, plowing through the cash register. Wood splintered, drinks and computers shattered to the floor.
Lin Qi pivoted, driving his spear forward with explosive leg strength.
“Monster, die!!”
Channeling power, he aimed for the beast’s neck—
“Cloud Piercer!”
“Whoosh~”
As the spear lunged, a whip-like tail lashed out.
“Clang!!”
Lin Qi spotted the Obsidian Horn Boar’s tail deflecting his strike. Without missing a beat, the beast turned and charged him again.
