Chapter 977: Don't Misunderstand, I Mean... Everyone Here Is a Waste of Space!
Chapter 977: Don't Misunderstand, I Mean... Everyone Here Is a Waste of Space!
Seeing the scene before him, Ivan couldn't help but frown.
Fortunately, not all Wizards were like this. At least the Aurors, including Fenrir, were dressed neatly and stood to one side, looking somewhat like a proper military unit. However, due to their small numbers, they couldn't effectively manage so many Aurors, so Ivan didn't blame them.
As Ivan pushed open the door and entered, the Aurors in the hall noticed his presence. The noisy chatter immediately quieted down, and all eyes turned to him.
Since they had been assigned here, they had naturally done their homework and recognized the young warlock in front of them as their new superior, the Acting President of the International Confederation of Wizards.
But upon truly seeing Ivan in person, the Wizards couldn't help but feel surprised. After all, Ivan looked so young that it was hard to believe he had defeated the legendary Dark Wizard Grindelwald.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Ivan walked to the front, looked around, and raised his voice.
"Welcome to the newly formed Rapid Response Teams!"
"I believe before coming here, you have all been briefed by your Ministers of Magic on the purpose of this department—to capture or eliminate Grindelwald, who has been causing chaos in the Wizarding World and attempting to spark a war!"
"This is no easy task, so I proposed to your Ministers of Magic and the Rotating President that we gather the most elite Wizards with extensive Anti-Dark Magic experience to address this threat..."
As Ivan spoke, a hint of pride appeared on the faces of the Wizards. As he had said, those who had been chosen were all top-notch.
Ever since Grindelwald's rampage at the North American Congress, where he killed several Ministers of Magic, the entire Wizarding World had been on edge. The other nearly killed Heads of State naturally didn't dare to be complacent; they were eager for Ivan to capture Grindelwald as soon as possible.
However, their satisfaction was short-lived. Ivan's tone suddenly turned cold, and he said with a sneer, "But your performance has disappointed me. I need true elites, not a bunch of undisciplined waste of space!"
Ivan's harsh words immediately chilled the atmosphere. The Wizards' faces turned grim.
"By what right do you say that?" A slightly raspy voice suddenly rang out from the crowd.
Everyone turned to look. The speaker was a middle-aged warlock in his fifties, with two gruesome scars on his face.
"Colin Morton?!" A witch gasped, and the other Wizards quickly verified the information in their minds, confirming his identity. Their faces showed a mix of amusement and curiosity.
Colin Morton was one of the most famous Aurors in the Nordic region. In the thirty years since he began his career, he had captured countless Dark Wizards and earned enough honors to fill an entire wall. Being dismissed as a waste of space by Ivan with just a few words naturally infuriated him.
"You haven't answered my question, President Sir", Colin Morton said sharply, his voice icy and showing no fear of Ivan's position as the President of the International Confederation.
"Why not?" Ivan’s lips curled into a smile, his gaze sweeping over every Wizard present. He spoke each word deliberately. "Because I have defeated two Dark Lords in succession, because I foiled Grindelwald’s plot to control the North American Magic Congress, and because my experience with Dark Magic is more extensive than any of yours!"
Colin Morton and the others were momentarily speechless, unsure of how to counter his argument.
They had all gathered information on Ivan before coming, and they knew that despite his young age, his experiences were nothing short of legendary. While still a student at Hogwarts, he had exposed several Dark Wizards masquerading as Professors and even defeated Voldemort, who had once terrorized Britain, with no one able to stop him.
This record was enough to make everyone present feel ashamed.
However, Ivan’s arrogant words also stirred some resentment. After all, being powerful did not necessarily mean having extensive experience with Dark Magic, which usually required years of accumulated knowledge. Each Auror present had decades of experience, and they found it hard to believe that Ivan’s experience with Dark Magic could surpass all of theirs combined.
Seeming to sense their thoughts, Ivan gave a derisive laugh. With memories from both Dumbledore and Grindelwald, his expertise in combating Dark Magic was undoubtedly stronger than that of everyone present combined.
But he didn’t rush to humiliate them. Instead, he continued to provoke them.
"Your performance this time has been unsatisfactory, so I plan to weed out those who are not fit for the Rapid Response Teams. I only want the best here; I have no use for incompetence..."
"Of course, I know some of you are discontent, so I will give you a chance. If anyone thinks I’m wrong, feel free to step forward... If you can defeat me, I will immediately apologize to each of you and admit that I was blind..."
The Wizards present exchanged glances, feeling a mix of excitement and hesitation. The memory of Ivan defeating Grindelwald in the Congress Hall made them doubt their chances.
No matter how confident they were, none of them were foolish enough to believe they could beat Ivan, who had defeated two Dark Lords.
"Don’t worry, I’m not expecting you to face me one-on-one. Whether it’s ten, fifty, or even a hundred of you, as long as you think you can win, it’s fine!" Ivan said casually, then added sarcastically, "If you’re really afraid, you can all come at me at once—six hundred of you, if you like..."
Ivan’s arrogant words infuriated the Aurors, who clearly felt disrespected.
But Ivan seemed oblivious to their anger, continuing, "If anyone can injure me in this free-for-all, even by sheer luck, I will immediately recommend that person to be the Vice President of the International Confederation of Wizards..."
"Very well, I hope you don’t regret this!" As soon as Ivan finished speaking, Colin Morton stepped forward, his face flushed with anger.
Ivan simply smiled and looked around, calling out, "Is there anyone else who wants to challenge me?"
With Colin Morton leading the charge, more Wizards hesitantly stepped forward from the crowd. After about five minutes, eighty-seven Wizards stood before Ivan, fewer than he had anticipated.
