Chapter 97: For All Troubles, Seek the Capable Immortal Mu Yue (35)
Chapter 97: For All Troubles, Seek the Capable Immortal Mu Yue (35)
Group B had a significantly larger number of participants than Group A, so when Obito arrived, they were still in the midst of their practical examination.
Obito scanned the crowd of onlookers and soon spotted Yahiko Lin amidst them.
With an excited grin, Obito made his way over to Yahiko Lin, saying, "Yahiko, you won't believe how awesome I was! Guy sensei had the upper hand, but I still managed to beat him."
Hearing Obito's voice, Yahiko Lin turned and asked curiously, "Has the exam for Group A concluded already?"
"Yup, it's over, and I came in second place, only losing to Itachi," Obito proudly shared his impressive performance.
"So, you finally beat Guy sensei! That shows tremendous progress, Obito. You never managed to beat him in the practical exams before," Yahiko Lin smiled gently, happy for Obito's improvement.
In the previous semester, Obito's strength had skyrocketed, even defeating the former top student, Uchiha Tekka. However, the equally fast-improving Might Guy had become an obstacle in Obito's path to first place.
With Might Guy around, Obito had never claimed the top spot in their grade, not even second.
So, upon learning that Obito had finally overcome Might Guy, Yahiko Lin was delighted for him, knowing that he had made significant strides in his strength once more.
"Hehe, I actually had a chance to win before, but I fell just short each time," Obito explained with a goofy smile, pleased by Yahiko Lin's praise.
In terms of raw power, he was actually at a disadvantage in this fight. It was his combat strategy that had won him the victory.
"By the way, Yahiko, how did you do? Did you make it into the top ten?" Obito asked.
"No, I feel like everyone else is improving so quickly," Yahiko Lin shook her head.
Her practical abilities were only mediocre in Group B, so there was no way she could have made it into the top ten.
"Oh, well, how about I teach you how to get stronger?" Obito offered enthusiastically, sensing Yahiko Lin's slight disappointment in her abilities.
"Sure," Yahiko Lin agreed, thinking of Obito's rapid improvement and smiling as she nodded.
Obito led Yahiko Lin to the side and began pondering what technique he should teach her.
He knew he couldn't teach her the techniques Mu Yue had imparted to him, like the Beard Cutting Technique, Dragon Fire, or the Leaf Whirlwind. He needed Mu Yue's permission for those.
Obito thought of the Fireball Jutsu. While Mu Yue had taught him this technique, it was also one he already knew.
"Why don't I teach you the Fireball Jutsu? It's a C-rank Fire Release technique, but it's very powerful," Obito suggested, deciding on the jutsu he would instruct Yahiko Lin in.
"First, you need to form the seals," Obito quickly demonstrated the hand seals for the Fireball Jutsu.
"Then, you convert the chakra inside your body into flames, and finally, you expel a large fireball as if you're blowing up a balloon," Obito explained, gesturing with his hands.
Yahiko Lin looked at Obito with a quizzical expression.
"Didn't you understand, Yahiko?" Obito scratched his head, feeling that he had explained it quite thoroughly. Perhaps he had the makings of a good teacher.
"So, you do this first, then that, and finally, you blow it out like a balloon," Obito demonstrated the hand seals again.
Yahiko Lin was at a loss for words to describe Obito's teaching style. She could tell that he genuinely wanted to teach her the Fireball Jutsu, but his instructions were rather abstract.
"Oh, I see." Obito scratched his head, feeling a bit disappointed that he couldn't help Yahiko Lin immediately.
He decided to ask Mu Yue later that night during their training session about how to teach others to become stronger. The all-knowing Immortal Mu Yue would surely be able to provide a solution to his problem.
Having failed in his initial teaching endeavor, Obito simply chatted with Yahiko Lin until a commotion arose from the training field.
"It looks like the examinations are over, and Mu Yue has posted the results," Yahiko Lin remarked as she observed a crowd gathering around the announcement board.
"Let's go take a look, Yahiko," Obito said enthusiastically, leading Yahiko Lin toward the board.
Although he already knew his own performance, Obito was curious to see if anyone would praise him for his achievement.
However, as they approached, Obito was surprised to find that the center of attention wasn't himself or even the first-place winner, Itachi. Instead, the buzz was mostly about Ebisu, who had just joined Group A the previous week.
"You guys don't know what happened during the Group C exam. There were two people who used Cool Big Sister clones to confuse their opponents in battle," one person said.
"Oh, I know about that, but it wasn't their original technique, was it? I recall it was developed by Ebisu, who was promoted to Group A last time," another chimed in.
"Yes, that's right. It was his invention," someone else agreed.
"I know this guy; he usually seems pretty serious. Who would've thought..." a fourth person added.
Obito listened to the surrounding discussions with a baffled expression, unsure why everyone was talking about Ebisu instead of the top performers in Group A.
Moreover, the rumors were getting more and more exaggerated, with some claiming that Ebisu had used the Cool Big Sister clone technique to directly bewitch his opponents in battle.
Obito couldn't help but think that he hadn't seen any Cool Big Sisters during Ebisu's fight.
Obito considered finding Ebisu to ask about the situation, but it seemed that Ebisu might have lost in the first round of the exam and left immediately afterward, as Obito couldn't locate him.
After the exam results were posted, Mu Yue returned directly to his home in the main city, and the system still didn't generate any pop-up windows regarding the exam.
Back at home, Mu Yue began preparing Magical Mapo Tofu.
The main difference between the system's recipe for Magical Mapo Tofu and the Mapo Tofu he remembered was the use of soybeans.
To be precise, it involved using soybeans to create a meat-like texture.
The process involved soaking soybeans in water, boiling them in broth, mashing them, seasoning them to mimic the taste of meat, and finally deep-frying them to seal in the flavor.
Once the soybeans were fried, they were added to the Mapo Tofu, creating a unique flavor profile—thus, Magical Mapo Tofu.
When Mu Yue finished cooking, he covered the dish with a lid to add a touch of ceremony.
Soon, Kushina and Minato arrived at Mu Yue's home, knocking on the door.
As they entered, they noticed the covered dish on the dining table, something that wasn't usually there.
"Why's there a lid on the food?" Kushina asked casually.
"Maybe it's to keep the dish warm? The food seems to be ready earlier than usual today," Minato speculated.
"Don't guess; just lift the lid and see for yourselves," Mu Yue said with a smile as he brought the last two dishes to the table.
"I'll do it," Kushina stepped forward and eagerly lifted the cover.
