Chapter 97: A Furious Stroke
Chapter 97: A Furious Stroke (Requesting Monthly Votes)
A brown blur surged into the hotpot restaurant like a phantom.
Lin Zhen’s eyes widened as he shoved Fang Huiyi aside, gripping his fire axe and bracing it in front of his chest.
Boom!!
A monstrous force slammed into him. Pain exploded across his back as he crashed into the wall, sending dust swirling and fracturing the concrete like a spiderweb.
“Ahh!!”
Before he could recover, a putrid stench filled his nostrils. A pair of razor-sharp fangs clamped onto his left prosthetic arm, the joint screaming under the tearing pressure.
The attacker—a massive, tawny-furred canine disaster beast known as a Mawfang Hound. Sleek and built for power, its jaws bristled with dozens of teeth capable of shearing through steel. Unlike the lumbering Ironthorn Boar, this creature balanced speed and strength, making it a nightmare for unprepared martial artists.
Lin Zhen’s vision flushed red. This was the same kind of beast that had torn off his arm years ago.
“Die!!” he roared.
Shedding the shattered prosthetic, he channeled every ounce of strength into his right arm, his axe descending like a falling mountain onto the beast’s neck.
Thud!
The blade cleaved through the hound’s head, dousing Lin Zhen in blood. Gasping, he collapsed, offering a weary smile to Fang Huiyi as she staggered upright.
“You scared me half to death!” she cried, rushing toward him.
“I’m fine,” he reassured her—just as a looming shadow engulfed her.
Lin Zhen’s heart froze. A hulking Ironthorn Boar, its crimson eyes gleaming with malice, thundered forward, hooves gouging the floor.
“Huiyi, run!!” he bellowed.
The boar’s curved tusks glinted, a juggernaut poised to pulverize internal organs like overripe fruit. Fang Huiyi stood paralyzed, terror-stricken, as the beast closed in.
Then—thunk!
A spear pierced the air, vanishing into the boar’s skull in a blur. The creature crumpled sideways, spraying blood.
Fang Huiyi blinked, alive and unharmed, as a black spear quivered in the beast’s head. A blood-soaked figure sprinted toward her—Lin Qi.
“Mom!” he shouted, steadying her.
Her face paled, then softened. “You’re here…”
Lin Qi helped Lin Zhen up, his gaze lingering on his father’s mangled arm. “How bad?”
“Cracked ribs,” Lin Zhen grunted.
“Stay inside. We’ll hole up until help arrives,” Lin Qi declared, guiding them toward the kitchen.
Inside, survivors huddled, two children whimpering in fear. A dust-covered girl tugged his sleeve. “Big brother… will we live?”
Lin Qi ruffled her hair. “As long as I’m here, we all survive.”
Back at the entrance, Lin Qi yanked his spear from the boar’s corpse.
“You’re just a First Realm martial artist,” Lin Zhen warned.
Lin Qi smirked. “Was. I’m Second Realm now.”
The siblings exchanged stunned glances. Second Realm? Already?!
Outside, chaos erupted—roars, crashing debris, and screams. A Mawfang Hound lunged from the shadows.
Lin Qi pivoted, spear lashing out in a straight line.
Fundamental Spear Manual—Rear-Horse Thrust!
The blade pierced the beast’s throat, flinging it aside like trash.
“Lin Qi!” A familiar voice rang out.
He turned to see two battered figures—Tao and Miao.
