Chapter 962: Your Safety Always Comes First!
Chapter 962: Your Safety Always Comes First!
"Professor Hals, why can you summon lightning? Is this some kind of spell?" A first-year Gryffindor raised his hand, curious and eager to know more.
"Hmm, let's just say it's a spell I created myself..." Ivan replied vaguely.
Upon hearing that it was a self-created spell, the young wizards in the room immediately perked up, bombarding Ivan with questions about whether they could learn such a powerful spell in class.
Of course not... Ivan inwardly groaned. Controlling the weather was a Bloodline Magic so powerful that it transcended the realm of normal magic. Even if other wizards spent their entire lives, they would never master it.
However, as a responsible professor, Ivan didn't want to be too discouraging. He tactfully explained that mastering this spell required a deep understanding of magic, and attempting it without proper knowledge could be dangerous.
"If you pay attention in class and work hard, one day you might be able to use such powerful magic yourselves", Ivan encouraged, looking around the room.
The young warlock who had asked the question blushed, seemingly lost in a daydream.
Meanwhile, Ivan was overwhelmed by the endless stream of questions from the other young wizards. Fortunately, class was about to start, so he quickly redirected them to head to the classroom, or they would be late.
Once the students dispersed from the Great Hall, Ivan hastily ate a few sweets and then headed to his class with the course materials.
To save time, Ivan extravagantly used his Phoenix Bloodline to bypass the anti-Apparition wards, transforming into a flame and arriving just before the class bell rang, much to the students' amazement.
Once the class began, Ivan quickly realized that his recent fame at the school wasn't entirely without benefits.
At least in today's Magic Research and Practice class, the young wizards were bursting with enthusiasm, working as if they had been injected with energy. They took notes on their own without any prompting, making Ivan's job much easier.
If every class could maintain this level of dedication, Ivan had no doubt that this year's Hogwarts students would be the most skilled cohort in the school's history!
However, Ivan also understood that for most people, such effort was fleeting. The usual pattern was three days of hard work followed by two days of laziness. After the Christmas holidays, most would likely return to their lazy ways.
The best he could do was to take advantage of their current enthusiasm and teach them as much useful knowledge as possible.
The morning flew by, and as the class was about to end, Ivan suddenly remembered the homework assignment he had given Harry and the others a few weeks ago. He began to check their progress in wandless magic.
After a month of practice, the sixth-year students had all grasped the basics of non-verbal spellcasting, though their proficiency varied.
Students like Harry and Malfoy, who learned quickly, could release a basic spell instantly when fully focused. On the other hand, Neville and Ernie needed to repeat the spell in their minds several times, taking one or two seconds to successfully cast, which could be a disadvantage in battle.
While they were still far from Ivan's effortless wandless magic, the young wizards were all quite satisfied.
The idea of casting spells without a wand was something they had never even dared to imagine!
Among all the students, the one who surprised Ivan the most was Hermione. She had quietly mastered the technique of wandless casting and demonstrated it suddenly, giving Ivan quite a shock.
After the initial surprise, Ivan led the applause, shouting loudly, "Hermione Granger did an excellent job, successfully performing a Wandless Casting. This is truly remarkable progress, so Gryffindor gets thirty points!"
The young wizards in the room turned their heads to look at Hermione with envy, while also hoping they could one day cast spells without a wand.
The morning class quickly came to an end with Ivan's comments. As they walked out of the classroom, the students continued to discuss the lesson. With the new magic techniques they had learned, everyone was eager to show off their skills in the Dueling Class on Friday.
"Halsprofessors..."
Just as Ivan was tidying up his textbooks and preparing to leave, a familiar voice called out from behind him. He turned around and realized Hermione had not left with the others, likely waiting for him.
"Since class is over, there's no need to be so formal, Hermione... or is there something you don't understand, Hermione Granger, that needs my guidance?" Ivan joked.
The young witch stuck out her tongue and then spoke up playfully, "So, how did I do in class, Halsprofessors?"
"Great, you're learning faster than I'm teaching. It looks like the champion of the Dueling Class on Friday is already a sure thing", Ivan replied with a smile.
"Does that mean I can apply for graduation this year?" Hermione didn't pay much attention to Ivan's praise and asked eagerly.
"Is Hogwarts not a good place to study? Everyone is here..." Ivan was taken aback, a bit surprised.
"But you're planning to resign next year, right?" Hermione pouted, looking somewhat gloomy.
Although she had been happy earlier about Ivan becoming the President of the International Confederation, after the morning's reflection, she realized that Ivan couldn't possibly handle two jobs at once. If he was going to stand up against Grindelwald, he couldn't continue teaching at the school.
"Um... well, it's not set in stone yet, but that's probably how it will be", Ivan said sheepishly.
Plans never quite keep up with changes. After defeating Voldemort, he had thought the wizarding world was safe, and he could relax and study magic at Hogwarts. Who would have thought Grindelwald would emerge, planning to start a war? Even if he didn't want to get involved, he couldn't just stand by.
"In that case, there's no need for me to stay at the school. I've already finished the sixth and seventh-year courses, and I'm confident I can pass the N.E.W.T. exams without any issues", Hermione said confidently.
With Ivan's help over the years, her magic skills had progressed rapidly, far surpassing those of her peers. Just a few days ago, she had learned Wandless Casting from Ivan's notes, a technique that even most Aurors couldn't master.
"I can fight too!" Hermione said firmly.
Ivan felt the young witch's determination but ultimately shook his head. "No, that's not enough, Hermione!"
"Real battles aren't like the Dueling Class, where it's just a bit of fun and you stop when someone gets hit. You've seen the Daily Prophet; Grindelwald isn't someone ordinary wizards can face. The Death Eaters are just as ruthless, and they use Unforgivable Curses as easily as they breathe."
"I don't want you to take that risk, Hermione!"
Ivan looked at the young witch seriously and said, "Your safety is always the most important thing, no matter what!"
