Chapter 961: Magic Can Be This Powerful!
Chapter 961: Magic Can Be This Powerful!
Looking at the Mission Description in the System Bar, Ivan was momentarily at a loss for words.
Fortunately, over the years, Ivan had grown accustomed to the System portraying him as a terrorist plotting in the shadows to rule the world. So, he simply ignored the Description and Note in the Quest panel and shifted his focus elsewhere.
The sudden surge in Mission Progress to over eighty percent genuinely startled Ivan. He had anticipated that becoming the President of the International Confederation of Wizards would boost his progress, but he hadn't expected such a significant increase.
Upon reflection, it made sense.
Previously, he had been confined to Britain, and apart from the occasional mention in European Wizarding World newspapers, Wizards from other continents likely hadn't even heard of him. Even fewer knew about his covert control over the British Wizarding World.
This time, things were different. He had defeated the legendary Dark Lord Grindelwald in front of thousands, leveraging his fame to make a strong presence before the Heads of State and Wizard Delegates.
Once the news hit the papers, the entire Wizarding World would know.
Additionally, the title of President of the International Confederation was highly influential, granting him the legal right to interfere in the Wizarding World. This, combined with the increased presence, was likely the reason for the rapid progress.
However, further advancement wouldn't be so easy. Ivan estimated that reaching one hundred percent progress would be a significant challenge, possibly requiring him to become a fully empowered President or even kill Grindelwald.
Both of these were daunting tasks.
Despite its grand name, the International Confederation of Wizards was much like the Muggles' United Nations, perhaps even more ineffective. It was mostly a figurehead, with the effectiveness of its orders depending on the cooperation of individual countries.
His only advantage was his overwhelming power, backed by the full support of the British Wizarding World, which gave him a slight chance of becoming a real President.
But politics had never been Ivan's strong suit. The thought of frequent interactions and power struggles with other Ministers of Magic gave him a headache.
He preferred straightforward battles to these intricate political maneuvers.
Was he really supposed to follow the System's Description and use his power to eliminate rivals and control the Ministers of Magic through conspiracy?
Ivan shook his head, dispelling the thought. The System had corrupted him, making him occasionally entertain nefarious ideas.
He was, after all, a kind and good person.
"Lord Hals..." Pierce's voice suddenly interrupted Ivan's thoughts.
"What is it?" Ivan asked, turning his head in surprise.
"Are you planning to stay at the Ministry of Magic for the next few days, or return to Hogwarts?" Pierce asked.
Ivan thought for a moment before responding, "I'll head back to the school first. The Christmas Holidays are coming up in a few days, and I need to inform Professor Mcgonagall and the students."
Although the Alliance negotiations had been successful, the transition of Ministers of Magic in France and Russia would take some time. It would be at least four or five days before they sent their representatives.
He could use this time to handle school affairs.
"By the way, Minister Pierce, remember to inform Director Cornell to send over all the information they've collected about Grindelwald and the Death Eaters over the past few days", Ivan reminded him.
"Understood, I'll have someone take care of it right away", Pierce said solemnly.
After giving his instruction, Ivan didn't linger any longer. He immediately waved his wand and vanished from the spot using Apparition.
...
Early Monday morning, Ivan yawned as he woke up from his bed. He glanced at his schedule and realized he had a Magic Research and Practice Class in the morning.
Just last night, he had been in a fierce battle with Grindelwald at the North American Congress of Magic, and now he had to return to school to teach. The stark contrast made Ivan feel a bit out of place, but he also knew that such peaceful days would likely be few and far between.
After washing up, Ivan slowly made his way out of the staff Common Room, heading to the Great Hall for breakfast.
However, as soon as he reached the entrance hall, he heard a commotion inside. When he went in, he saw the young Wizards from the Four Houses gathered, discussing something animatedly.
Just as Ivan was feeling puzzled, the young Wizards swarmed around him. Hermione, holding a newspaper, looked excited as she asked, "Oh my God, Ivan, is this true? The Daily Prophet says you defeated Grindelwald and became the President of the International Confederation of Wizards?!"
Ivan took the newspaper from Hermione and glanced at it. The front page featured a headline and a photo of him confronting Grindelwald inside the Magical Congress, likely taken by someone who was present.
The Daily Prophet's response was impressively quick. They must have received the news in the early hours of the morning and managed to publish it by dawn.
"Yes, you could say that", Ivan said, nodding calmly at the curious and inquisitive gazes. "To be more precise, I'm the Acting President!"
The students couldn't distinguish the difference and started asking Ivan about his experience at the North American Congress of Magic and how he defeated Grindelwald. When they first read the news in the newspaper, they almost thought the Daily Prophet had made a mistake.
While Ivan was indeed the most outstanding student in Hogwarts history and had graduated early to become a professor, it was still hard for people to associate him with a figure as significant as the President of the International Confederation of Wizards.
It was as if one day, they discovered that a classmate who had always gone to school with them was actually the head of state. It was that absurd.
"…That's pretty much how it went. Grindelwald had disguised himself as the President of the North American Congress of Magic and killed two Ministers of Magic, planning to frame me. But I saw through his plan and used magic to create the Ministers' magical images, which identified Grindelwald and trapped him inside the Magical Congress…"
Encouraged by the enthusiastic crowd, Ivan patiently recounted the events.
Although Ivan narrated the story in a matter-of-fact tone, Hermione and the others could tell from his words how dangerous the situation had been. The final battle inside the Magical Congress, in particular, left the young Wizards in awe.
Whether it was Grindelwald single-handedly fighting over a hundred Aurors or the two of them casting spells that summoned thunderstorms and destroyed streets and squares, the young Wizards' perception of magic's power was completely redefined.
Magic could be so incredibly powerful!
