Chapter 960: This is Just a Part of Your Grand Plan!
Chapter 960: This is Just a Part of Your Grand Plan!
After dinner, Ivan did not leave the North American Congress building like the other Wizard Delegates, as there was an internal meeting of the Five Grand Senators scheduled for the evening.
Apart from establishing the new departments, what concerned Cornell and the others the most was the recent exposure of the Wizarding World due to the frequent attack incidents.
Especially today at noon, when Ivan and Grindelwald had a fierce battle in downtown New York, the pedestrians on the nearby streets and the Muggles inside the Woolworth Building had witnessed the existence of magic firsthand. This directly caused the Magic Exposure Level Clock at the entrance to advance by one square.
This indicated that the day when the Wizarding World would be fully exposed to Muggles was drawing ever closer.
Although the Aurors of the North American Congress of Magic had already begun their operations to erase the memories of every Muggle who had seen the truth, everyone knew the situation was far from optimistic. After all, their main reliance—the alchemical device capable of modifying the memories of millions of Muggles at once—was now unusable due to the missing keys.
Even if they managed to survive this crisis, Grindelwald would still have his Acolytes continue to cause trouble in Muggle cities, rendering all their efforts meaningless.
"Can't we just replicate some new keys?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
Grindelwald had taken four keys, but the alchemical device was still there. With all the elite wizards gathered here, it should not be impossible to replicate a few keys, right?
Cornell shook his head with a bitter smile. To ensure the uniqueness of the keys, hundreds of Alchemical Masters had racked their brains, and they had never considered the possibility of the keys being lost.
After all, these keys were kept in the hands of the Ministers of Magic, who were extremely secure, and there was almost no chance of them being lost or stolen.
Moreover, the Alchemical Instrument Core was created by Nicolas Flamel, an Alchemical Master from France. After his death, the methods for creating some crucial components were lost, which was why they were in such a difficult position.
Listening to Cornell's explanation, Ivan finally understood why his alchemy knowledge had provided no clues when examining the key—it was indeed the work of Nicolas Flamel.
Ivan had carefully read through the two alchemy books left by Flamel, which contained many methods for creating alchemical items, but not the one for the memory-cleaning device. Therefore, he was also at a loss for the time being.
"Wait... Lord Hals, can't you summon the soul of the deceased? We could just bring Nicolas Flamel out and ask him, right?" The President of the Asian Association suggested, a thought crossing his mind.
The others turned to Ivan with hopeful expressions, but he shook his head.
"Unfortunately, President Master, I cannot do that", Ivan said regretfully, shrugging his shoulders. He then explained to the puzzled onlookers that the Resurrection Stone could only create a virtual illusion.
"Are you saying that the two Ministers of Magic we've seen were just memory-based illusions?" Bruno asked, shocked.
Cornell and the others also found it hard to believe.
"I apologize, Brunomaster. I had no choice but to resort to this tactic to gain your trust initially", Ivan explained apologetically.
After careful consideration, Ivan decided to tell the truth.
There was no point in keeping it a secret, and it would be impossible to hide it for long. With so many elite individuals present, who among them didn't have someone they cherished? What if they all started crying and begging him to perform the soul-summoning ritual after the meeting?
He couldn't possibly deceive them forever, and if the clever Wizards suspected something, it could be disastrous.
Moreover, possessing such a relic would inevitably draw unwanted attention. Although Ivan wasn't afraid, he didn't want to invite trouble and saw this as an opportunity to explain everything clearly.
After Ivan detailed the entire situation, Bruno and the others finally understood that they had been tricked, and they could only laugh bitterly, unable to blame Ivan.
It was precisely because of this cunning move that they were able to expose Grindelwald, who had been masquerading as Wilkinsonpresident.
"Remarkable. If I were in such a predicament, I doubt I would have the same courage", Cornell remarked with a sigh.
While Ivan had noticed something was off about Wilkinson based on some clues, anyone else would have been too afraid to take such a risky action.
Winning the gamble was one thing, but if anything had gone wrong, Ivan would have been in an irreparable situation.
Realizing that the soul-summoning ritual wasn't reliable, Cornell and the others abandoned the idea of recreating the alchemical apparatus. Instead, they decided to contact the leaders of the Muggle world to help cover up the issue of magic exposure.
The meeting lasted the entire night, and it wasn't until the early hours of the morning that Ivan and Pierce returned to the Britain Ministry of Magic.
Percy, who had been detained for two days, was finally released.
Upon learning that Ivan had exposed Grindelwald, who had been masquerading as Wilkinson, and defeated him to become the Acting President, Percy's expression was a mix of shock and disbelief. He almost thought Delius and the others were joking with him.
However, after receiving confirmation from Pierce, Percy's attitude did a complete 180-degree turn. He completely disregarded his dignity and eagerly helped Ivan with his luggage, behaving like a sycophant.
Ivan was highly displeased with Percy's fawning behavior. If it weren't for Percy's actions to curry favor with the powerful, he wouldn't have been controlled by Grindelwald, ultimately involving Ivan as well.
But for the sake of his friends, Ivan didn't bother to argue with Percy. After issuing a few warnings, he opened the System Bar to check it.
He had specifically vied for the position of President of the International Confederation of Wizards not only to deal with Grindelwald but also to complete a System-Assigned Task.
However, when he saw the System Bar, Ivan was momentarily stunned.
