Chapter 96: The Workbench is a Must-Have
Chapter 96: The Workbench is a Must-Have
"Lin, what's wrong?" Joel asked, almost not recognizing the person before him when he saw Lindsay.
Ever since early yesterday morning, Lindsay had been busy building a woodshed and then digging a cellar until noon today. He took a nap in between, but there wasn't a place in town to take a bath every day.
So when Lindsay appeared, his entire body was covered in mud, with dirt and grime on his clothes, looking as if he had just crawled out of a pile of dirt.
"I just built a woodshed and dug a cellar, that's all," Lindsay replied with a smile.
He wanted to reach out and wipe the mud off his face, but his hands were just as dirty.
With nightfall, he decided to just leave it as it was.
He asked Joel directly, "You must have something important to talk about so late."
Joel and Lindsay had maintained a good relationship over the past few years.
However, for some reason, Joel felt that Lindsay was exuding a sense of impatience.
But with the darkness of night and the dirt on his face, Joel couldn't quite make out Lindsay's expression. So, he decided to get straight to the point:
"Lin, I just want to ask about your thoughts on the town's current situation."
"..."
Alright, after seeing Joel off the other night, it was Lindsay's turn tonight.
He had a hunch about the reason for Joel's visit at this late hour.
It was no surprise that the conflicts among the Awakeners in town had left this young man feeling lost.
Lindsay, with his experience, interrupted, "Joel, listen to me. The town is facing many challenges right now, and it's normal for different people to have different opinions..."
Lindsay offered Joel another round of consolation.
With his previous experience in talking to Joel, this time it was like a walk in the park.
In less than a quarter of an hour, Joel was deep in thought, ready to go home and ponder the key points.
As Joel was about to leave, Lindsay suddenly remembered something from yesterday's long hunt and asked, "By the way, why didn't you join the long hunt?"
Joel paused.
He didn't want to discuss this issue, but thinking about how Lindsay had just given him advice, he finally spoke up, "Lin, I had an argument with Mom."
"Among the Awakeners in town, she's clearly part of the faction supporting immediate action, but she scolded me for the same thing!"
Lindsay furrowed his brows.
In his impression, Joel had always been a young man eager to explore the outside world, and it was unthinkable for him to disagree with Dan on this matter!
"Do you think Black Mountain is too dangerous, and it's not the right time to leave yet?" Lindsay asked tentatively, but Joel gave him an unexpected answer:
"No, I told Mom that I also want to try to breach Black Mountain."
"She flew into a rage and scolded me, saying that I was being reckless with my safety."
The huntress herself supported the idea of breaching Black Mountain.
But after Joel expressed his desire to do so, she scolded her own son.
Was this a case of double standards?
Lindsay shook his head inwardly.
This was a mother's concern for her child, conflicting with her adventurous personality.
"Joel, you should know that Dan loves you."
"So she doesn't want you to take risks."
"I know Mom loves me!" Joel's tone was a little agitated. "But she's clearly supporting this action, and yet she's against me doing it. This is just..."
At this point, Joel's voice gradually faded away, and he left.
He understood Lin Sai's words and the logic behind them. But deep down, there was a hurdle he couldn't seem to overcome.
Lin Sai walked up to Joel and was about to pat his shoulder, but noticing the dirt on her sleeves and palms, she hesitantly withdrew her hand and said, "Joel, you're still too fixated on this matter."
"Life isn't just about breaching Black Mountain. Think carefully about your life with Dan and everything with the hunting team."
"You'll figure out how to manage your emotions."
Lin Sai's guidance took effect.
Joel adjusted his mood and freed himself from the previous negative state.
Before bidding farewell to Lin Sai, he asked in a low voice, "Brother Lin, do you think I can still catch up with the long hunt team if I leave now?"
Lin Sai shook his head with a smile, "They've been gone for over a day now. Calm down."
"Just stay home and spend this winter. Dan will surely invite you to hunt with her, and you can sort out your relationship then."
"Alright!" Joel nodded vigorously and waved goodbye.
Lin Sai watched him leave before turning back towards the rear of the wooden house.
"Sigh..."
"First Joel, and now Joel, the situation in town seems more serious than I initially thought."
Lin Sai sighed and sat down on the spruce stump he had previously sawed.
He felt it necessary to inquire about the specific situation in town.
But with nightfall, it wasn't the right time for such an errand.
"Finally, I can take a good look!"
Lin Sai adjusted his mood.
Excitedly, he opened the Skill Panel, and the Workbench interface appeared once more.
"First, the crafting materials..."
Lin Sai scanned his surroundings, seeing the leftover spruce wood everywhere. He decided to gather the wood and try placing it into the Workbench.
Swish—
The moment the wood was placed inside, the crafting list appeared before Lin Sai.
[1 Wood + 1 Oil + 1 Fabric = Torch]
[1 Wood + 1 Gel = Torch]
[1 Stone + 1 Wood + 1 Torch = Campfire]
[1 Wood = 2 Wood Planks]
Most of the items crafted from wood on the Workbench were relatively simple.
Lin Sai quickly memorized the items that could be crafted on the Workbench as he scanned through.
But at this moment, instead of changing the materials, he continued to examine the crafting formulas for other items.
Because right at the top of the crafting list:
[5 Wood = Wooden Workbench]
The Workbench could craft a physical Workbench! His Skill Panel was just a simple crafting tool.
For complex item crafting, he'd first need to craft this professional Workbench!
"Can't it be simpler, with all items crafted directly on the Skill Panel?"
"Even as a game skill, this setting is too realistic!"
Lin Sai muttered.
As a game player, he actually understood such a setting.
Without hesitation, Lin Sai gathered five pieces of wood from the surroundings and stuffed them into the Workbench.
As the skill activated, a small portion of his Essence was extracted in an instant.
And a square, one-meter-wide Workbench appeared on the empty ground before him.
Lin Sai examined the Workbench carefully.
It was engraved with a nine-box grid pattern on top and surrounded by four sides with a carpenter's square Workbench pattern, simple yet aesthetically pleasing.
It even exuded an artistic flair!
