Chapter 96: The Real World
Chapter 96: The Real World
Several days passed, and soon it was the end of November.
Chen Chuan was supposed to take the monthly exams, but with his new Weapon Permit, there was no longer a need for it. Not only the monthly exams, but even the mid-term and final exams were now irrelevant for him.
After all, obtaining the Weapon Permit had already proven his capabilities, surpassing the average students of his year and even higher grades. There was no point in measuring him with ordinary assessments anymore.
This meant he didn't have to worry about preparing for exams, but that didn't mean he could relax. By next month, he might receive a new assignment and undergo further advanced training. So, for the past few days, he had been going to the Combat Department's training hall early in the morning to spar with the students there, becoming more familiar with the application of the long sword.
However, during sparring, they naturally used training blades. Even though he had obtained the Weapon Permit, there was no need for him to carry weapons around the academy all day.
After training ended that day, he returned to the dormitory, intending to wash up and then go for a meal. But as he exited the elevator and walked towards the dormitory area, he saw someone standing at his dormitory door. This person had a pale complexion and a somewhat handsome appearance, wearing an exquisite and expensive imported suit.
Wei Dong was also standing there, staring at this person intently.
Chen Chuan was surprised as he looked at the two of them and then turned to Wei Dong, asking curiously, "Wei, what's going on here?"
Wei Dong said, "Chen, he doesn't look like a good person."
Chen Chuan smiled and said, "This is the dormitory building. Since the Dormitory Manager allowed him to come here, it should be fine."
Wei Dong thought for a moment and said, "But he still doesn't look like a good person."
Chen Chuan nodded and glanced at the young man again, saying, "I'll handle this." Wei Dong replied, "Okay, I'll take care of it." He then quickly returned to his room and slammed the door shut.
Chen Chuan turned to the young man and asked, "What brings you here, Senior? Why are you standing at my dormitory door?"
The handsome young man, hearing this, was no longer as calm as before. He turned to Chen Chuan and said, "So, you're Chen Chuan?"
Chen Chuan nodded and said, "Yes."
The handsome young man looked at him for a moment and said, "I want to talk to you privately." He emphasized, "It's important for you."
Chen Chuan glanced at him and took out his keys to open the door, gesturing for him to enter. "Please."
The young man didn't hesitate and walked right in. Chen Chuan followed him inside, walked to the cabinet, poured a glass of water, and said, "We only have boiled water here."
The young man walked to the center of the living room, turned around, and said, "I'm Jing Lin, and I'm not your senior yet."
Chen Chuan nodded and said, "Then, Mr. Jing, you said you wanted to talk to me. What is it that you want to discuss?"
Jing Lin spoke calmly, "My teacher wants to meet you. You may not know his identity, but I'll tell you now. This is your chance, and my teacher rarely gives people opportunities.
You're lucky. I don't know why he suddenly wants to see you, as you don't seem special. Anyway, that's all I have to say. Let's go."
As he spoke, he started walking towards the door.
But upon reaching the door, he realized that Chen Chuan hadn't moved from his original spot, which annoyed him. He frowned and said, "Why are you still standing there? Hurry up and follow me!"
Chen Chuan turned around, his back to the floor-to-ceiling window, casting a long shadow to one side, making his face slightly obscured, but his voice was clear, "I'm sorry, Mr. Jing, but I have no interest in meeting your teacher."
Jing Lin was taken aback, finding it hard to believe. He looked Chen Chuan up and down and said, "Do you know what you're saying? Do you not understand the significance of this? Forget it..." He seemed irritated, "I'll say it again. Now, follow me and come meet my teacher. Do you understand?"
Chen Chuan replied calmly, "I'm sorry, but if that's all you have to say, then I've given you a clear answer, Mr. Jing. You can leave."
Jing Lin scoffed, "Foolish!" He was agitated, "Do you think what you see is all there is? I hate people like you who think they know everything."
Chen Chuan remained composed, "If you refuse to leave, I can ask the Dormitory Manager to escort you out."
Jing Lin stared at him for a moment, then laughed. He lowered his head and then raised it again, laughing coldly, "I knew it would come to this. You people from small towns are always so arrogant and ignorant, living in your little bubble, unaware of the real world."
He laughed again, "I read about you in the newspaper. They say you're quite capable, and I want to see for myself, and also let you..." He adjusted his tie, "...re-evaluate this world."
Chen Chuan looked at him, "You want to spar with me?"
"Spar? Ha, if that's what you think, so be it."
Chen Chuan nodded, "Alright, let's go outside." He led the way out, and Jing Lin followed.
Soon, the two of them arrived at the training ground on the same floor. They faced each other, standing still.
Chen Chuan slightly moved his shoulders, noticing that Jing Lin was standing rigidly without any intention to move.
"Jing Lin spoke coldly, "There's no need. Let's begin now; it'll be over soon anyway."
Chen Chuan nodded, "Then let's start."
Jing Lin raised his hand and said, "Watch closely." As he spoke, his body suddenly flickered, and before anyone could see how he moved, he seemed to have left his original position and appeared beside Chen Chuan in an instant, maintaining his original standing posture.
Jing Lin's gaze shifted to Chen Chuan, who seemed to be standing still. A cold smirk played on Jing Lin's lips as he reached out to pat Chen Chuan's shoulder. But before his hand could make contact, his palm suddenly stung, and he realized that Chen Chuan had slapped his hand away with his own.
Hmm?
Jing Lin was utterly bewildered. His movement was facilitated by stimulating his altered tissue with special techniques, far surpassing the reflexes of ordinary fighters. How could Chen Chuan, who was still at the first limit, possibly keep up?
Before Jing Lin could recover from his surprise, Chen Chuan's body suddenly turned, and in an instant, they were face-to-face. Chen Chuan's hand had already slapped down and seized Jing Lin's wrist.
Jing Lin's eyes narrowed.
As Chen Chuan grasped Jing Lin's wrist, his palm naturally channeled force into it. If it were an ordinary person, and they didn't have altered tissue reinforcing their wrist joints or the ability to counter with equal force, their wrist might very well be crushed under Chen Chuan's grip.
But this time, Chen Chuan didn't resist the force; instead, Jing Lin's force seemed to disappear without a trace, causing no reaction. Chen Chuan didn't pull away; instead, he pushed Jing Lin's arm upwards, sliding out a section, and then cut downwards, reinserting it into Jing Lin's forearm. Throughout this process, Chen Chuan's entire arm moved like a slithering snake.
Jing Lin's eyes turned cold. Being entangled like this, all he needed was a twist to shatter Chen Chuan's arm bones and teach him a lesson.
Jing Lin exerted force, but to his surprise, the arm he had entangled seemed to be made of steel casting, unyielding to his grip. Doubt crept into his eyes.
How was this possible?
In truth, this entanglement was a test of the altered tissue's resilience and force. The young man before him had only trained for a few months; how much altered tissue could he have formed? Under Jing Lin's intense pressure, how could he possibly withstand it?
Chen Chuan felt the surge of power in his arm, and more than that, he sensed that Jing Lin's entire body seemed to be coiled with tension, disconnected from his breathing rhythm. When Jing Lin exerted force, there was no warning or gap, unlike any opponent Chen Chuan had faced before.
But if that was all, Chen Chuan gently moved his arm outward, and a powerful force burst forth, causing Jing Lin to lose his balance and stumble back a few steps.
Chen Chuan took a step forward and suddenly charged towards Jing Lin. Jing Lin's eyes narrowed as he grabbed Chen Chuan's arm with both hands and tried to pull him down to regain his balance.
However, this action seemed to have no effect. Chen Chuan dragged Jing Lin forward, and the floor emitted a sharp, hurried scraping sound.
After a few steps, Chen Chuan reached the wall. He swung his arm, and Jing Lin was suddenly lifted off the ground and slammed into the wall. Jing Lin's eyes widened in shock, "You..."
A loud bang reverberated through the wall. But as they collided, Jing Lin's back muscles rippled, and he managed to dissipate the force.
Chen Chuan remained expressionless, yanking Jing Lin back and lifting him into the air before hurling him against the wall again!
"Bang!"
Jing Lin coughed, filled with anger and surprise, "Stop! Stop it!"
"Bang!"
Chen Chuan ignored his pleas, repeatedly slamming Jing Lin against the wall. The entire seventh floor could hear the deafening collisions, attracting students from the dormitory to investigate, along with the dormitory manager, whose expression grew stern as he approached.
The intense impact continued, and with each collision, Jing Lin's face grew more distressed. Initially, he could rely on his unique bone structure and force to resist and dissipate the force, but as the impacts became more frequent, he felt the grip he had been holding onto starting to slip. His entire skeletal structure seemed to loosen with each collision, and no matter how hard he tried to counter, he couldn't withstand the pure and powerful force.
Most crucially, throughout this intense and violent confrontation, Chen Chuan showed no signs of exhaustion.
"How is this possible..."
Jing Lin's face was a mix of shock and anger. After another impact, he finally reached his limit. His entire body's force dissipated instantly, as if a once-cohesive entity had suddenly become utterly limp.
Chen Chuan felt the arms that had been entangled around his own go limp, like two dead snakes. He shook his hands, flinging Jing Lin away and leaving him on the ground. Chen Chuan straightened his clothes and began to walk back, taking a couple of steps before turning to say, "Welcome to the real world." With that, he strode away, watched by the students and the dormitory manager.
