Chapter 96: The Final Outcome (25)
Chapter 96: The Final Outcome (25)
As Mu Yue had expected, there was nothing wrong with Obito's body. He had merely exhausted his chakra and overtaxed himself by using the Body Flicker Technique multiple times in quick succession.
After all, Obito had just performed the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique and Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique, in addition to several incomplete Body Flicker and Clone Techniques.
Of all the techniques he used, the Clone Technique consumed the least amount of chakra, but it proved to be the most crucial.
After receiving treatment, Obito quickly regained consciousness. Seeing Mu Yue sitting by his side, he couldn't help but begin recounting the highlights of his recent battle.
"As soon as Guy sensei's kick landed, I knew that if the fight continued as normal, I would lose. So, despite knowing I wouldn't be able to use the Body Flicker Technique again, I still chose to create distance and resort to ninjutsu."
"To conserve chakra, that Great Fireball Technique was more for show than actual power. It was meant to divert Guy sensei's attention and obscure his vision."
When he spoke about how he had deceived Might Guy using the Clone Technique, Obito's eyes lit up with excitement.
"I knew Guy sensei has keen observational skills in battle, so despite the pain, I controlled my clone to portray an image of fatigue and exhaustion to mislead him."
Obito felt that he could brag about today's battle for an entire year—there were too many details to mention. Moreover, he hadn't created the clone from the start with differences; instead, he had allowed it to run alongside him for a while before feigning fatigue, making it seem more natural.
"Today's performance was indeed excellent. If you can maintain such calmness in future battles, you'll be even more remarkable." Mu Yue praised.
He never stingily withheld praise when his students performed well. If he constantly denied their achievements out of fear that they would become arrogant, they would eventually lose confidence in themselves.
In Mu Yue's opinion, Obito's current performance would likely place him in the upper echelons of the Chunin rank, perhaps even approaching the lower Jonin level.
"Hehe, it's all thanks to your excellent teaching, Teacher Mu Yue," Obito chuckled, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.
Why had he just spoken so much? Was it to brag? Of course not. Winning against a peer wasn't something he needed to boast about to his teacher.
He merely wanted to showcase his progress and earn Mu Yue's acknowledgment.
If Obito had to point out one flaw in the battle, it would be the absence of two people: Yahiko and Kakashi.
If Yahiko had been there, he would have surely praised Obito's battle intelligence, and that show-off Kakashi wouldn't dare to look down on him again.
After confirming that there were no other issues, Obito suggested to Mu Yue that they return to the training field to watch the ongoing matches.
Mu Yue contemplated for a moment. Knowing that Obito wouldn't want to miss the exam, and considering that he wasn't actually injured, Mu Yue agreed to take him back.
By the time Mu Yue's physical body returned to the training field, the first round of battles had concluded, and half of the students had been eliminated. The second round had just commenced, and there was still some time before Obito's turn.
In the second round, Shisui's opponent was once again a graduating genin, and he dispatched them just as efficiently as before. No one was surprised by this outcome.
Currently, the general consensus among the students of Class A was that only Might Guy, Uchiha Obito, and Sarutobi Asuma had a slim chance of victory.
Although Hayate Gekko was initially considered to be on par with them, his swift and decisive loss had changed everyone's perception. They believed that even if he fought again, Hayate wouldn't be able to turn the tables.
Obito's opponent in the second round was a fourth-year student, but even with Obito's less-than-peak condition, he managed to emerge victorious without much difficulty.
The third round unfolded in a similar fashion, but it was notable for Asuma's match against Hayate.
When Hayate faced Asuma, the students realized that they might have underestimated both Hayate and Shisui's true capabilities.
The only possibility they could think of was that Shisui's gentle personality made him unwilling to humiliate his opponents, so he adjusted his strength accordingly.
Hayate Gekko's speed was also noteworthy, though not as fast as Might Guy's when he used the Body Flicker Technique. Nonetheless, he was among the fastest in Class A, and his close-quarters combat with kunai gave Asuma a hard time.
However, Asuma had endured numerous beatings over the past few days, and he didn't lose his composure despite Hayate's fierce attacks. He soon found an opportunity to counter-attack and emerged victorious.
As the sun gradually set in the west, the battles on the training field were also coming to an end. The last match of the quarterfinals pitted Deidara against Asuma.
Both had endured grueling battles, with Deidara even fainting from exhaustion. But by now, he had mostly recovered his strength.
When fighting Guy, Deidara could only try to create distance to avoid his opponent's sharp moves. However, against Asuma, Deidara directly engaged in close-quarters combat.
After the prolonged training, Deidara's taijutsu had improved significantly and was no longer a liability. While he might not be on par with Shisui or Might Guy, he could hold his own against peers his age.
Deidara suddenly rushed forward and overwhelmed Asuma, who had underestimated his physical prowess. During his fight with Guy, Deidara had mostly avoided close-quarters taijutsu, leading Asuma to assume that Deidara's physical abilities were still lacking.
But now, Asuma was stunned by Deidara's combination of the Body Flicker Technique and the Leaf Great Whirlwind, which left his head spinning.
Asuma might have stood a chance if he hadn't made a critical mistake in his strategy, but his error cost him the match, and he soon lost to Deidara.
"The final battle: Uchiha Shisui versus Uchiha Obito," Mu Yue announced the names of the last two finalists.
"It's a clash of elites from the Uchiha clan. True elites beget elites," Ebisu remarked.
Despite being the same age, his strength paled in comparison to these clan ninjas, and he had been eliminated in the first round.
"What a pity. I could have won if only Deidara hadn't improved so much in taijutsu," Asuma lamented.
"As their seniors, we haven't been diligent enough in our training. We must work harder from now on!" Kurenai Yuhi declared.
As Deidara stepped onto the battlefield to face Shisui, he felt a mix of emotions.
He had fought Might Guy numerous times but had barely crossed paths with Shisui in battle.
Back when they first started training under Mu Yue, Deidara often felt demoralized by Shisui's rapid progress.
What took him a week to learn, Shisui could master in an afternoon, and Shisui was from the same clan and younger than him.
Now, Deidara didn't feel as insecure. While Shisui was strong, he, too, had become a capable ninja.
However, Deidara didn't feel optimistic about winning against Shisui today. He wasn't in peak condition.
Knowing he would likely lose, Deidara still gave it his all. Although the outcome was as he expected, he didn't feel disappointed because he had pushed himself to his limits.
Moreover, he had defeated Might Guy earlier, so Deidara was in high spirits and couldn't wait to brag about his comeback to Nohara Rin.
