Lu Hai Kong had never been one to indulge in excessive curiosity, but the stench of blood that he so despised seemed to pull him closer, as if some mysterious force was drawing him towards its source.
The source of the bloody smell wasn't far from the road, only a few hundred meters away. In reality, this distance was already quite far, and theoretically, Lu Hai Kong shouldn't have been able to smell it. Yet, he did.
Following the scent, when Lu Hai Kong reached its origin, an indescribable emotion erupted within his chest.
Due to the system, Lu Hai Kong had always felt a layer of separation between himself and this world, believing it to be nothing more than a game, albeit a realistic one.
As Wang Chao Ma Han and the others gradually developed their own personalities and became more human-like, Lu Hai Kong started to immerse himself more deeply, eventually viewing this world as a real one. However, even then, the layer of separation between Lu Hai Kong and this world remained, albeit now incredibly thin.
When Lu Hai Kong reached the source of the bloody smell, the scene before him was like a towering wave, shattering that layer of separation. A rage that Lu Hai Kong couldn't suppress ignited within him.
It was a gruesome sight.
Before Lu Hai Kong was a bloody field of carnage, a small village of several dozen households, littered with the corpses of the slaughtered. Among these bodies, there were no women, only the elderly, innocent children, and vigorous young men.
To be honest, the scenes Lu Hai Kong left behind after killing weren't much better, perhaps even crueler. But when he saw the battlefields he had created, he never felt much emotion. This time, however, was different.
Especially when Lu Hai Kong saw a boy of about five or six years old, pierced through the throat with a spear and left to die, his eyes turned completely red.
Lu Hai Kong silently rode his horse through the village. Using his reconnaissance skill, he learned that the perpetrators of this massacre were likely a group of a hundred or so Xianbei tribesmen riding horses and wielding curved blades.
Upon learning this, Lu Hai Kong's eyes reddened further. This group was clearly the same one that had passed by him not long ago. In other words, he bore some responsibility for the village's plight.
"Since it's the doing of those I let in, I'll send each and every one of those murderers to hell!"
With this thought, Lu Hai Kong spurred his horse and charged into the center of the village, where a small square was located. More importantly, there was fire and the desperate screams of women—the group of Xianbei tribesmen were still there.
This group of Xianbei was actually a small tribe, originally a relatively honest group of herders. But just yesterday, their tribe had been suddenly attacked by a group of Huns. All the elders and children in the tribe were killed, and all the women were abducted. Out of a tribe of several thousand, only this group of less than a hundred young men managed to escape.
One night was all it took for their homes and families to be taken from them, leaving these hundred-odd people homeless and pitiful.
But upon reaching the borders of the Han territory and encountering this village, this group of hungry, tired, and enraged individuals instantly transformed into demons.
With little effort, they stormed the village, repeating the atrocities the Huns had committed in their own tribe the day before.
They slaughtered every elderly, child, and able-bodied person, gathering all the women in the central square of the village. These once-docile herders completely unleashed their inner demons, indulging in the brutal mistreatment of the helpless women and venting their emotions.
The entire square was filled with sexually assaulting Xianbei tribesmen, and women either struggling, too weak to resist, or already killed, their screams and bloodied bodies creating a hellish scene.
"How exhilarating! This is the life I, Xu Pu Gan, should have!"
"Die, die! If not for those Huns, I wouldn't have known life could be so thrilling!"
"Killing with abandon, drinking to excess, and torturing women—this is what we, as Xianbei men, should do! My brothers, look at these pathetic Han dogs, too weak to fight back. Our good days are here, and this Han land is our hunting ground. We'll never return to that damned grassland. Let's revel in killing and pleasure in this Han territory!"
In the center of the square, a robust Han man kicked aside the lifeless body of a young girl he had brutalized, raised a bottle of alcohol, and shouted recklessly at the Xianbei tribesmen.
Humans are such creatures; despite the boastful words of this Xianbei named Xu Pu Gan, he was merely masking his fear of facing the Huns and his reluctance to return to the grassland. But at this moment, his words ignited the beastly nature of the Xianbei, even those who had initially hesitated to join in the cruelty.
As this sinful revelry reached its climax, the sound of heavy hoofbeats echoed through the night.
In the 16th year of the reign of Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty, a mistake-free version of the Book of Han was published.
"Who's there?!"
The Xianbei tribesmen were startled, instinctively turning to the source of the sound. Among them, Lu Hai Kong rode in on horseback, gripping the Ornate Battle Axe and with a chilling gaze, slowly approaching.
"So, it's just a Han dog," Xu Pu Gan said with a cruel smile. "Brothers, let's capture this foolhardy Han dog, cut off his limbs, and let him die in agony for daring to intrude on our night of revelry!"
"Kill!"
Over a dozen Xianbei tribesmen, not far from Lu Hai Kong, charged forward with cruel smiles on their faces. After this slaughter, these once-docile herders had fully transformed into demons.
However, this group of demons had no idea that the man they were facing was the true 'devil' in their eyes.
Lu Hai Kong's icy gaze swept across the entire scene, and with a swing of his Ornate Battle Axe, he cleaved the five leading tribesmen in half. A massacre had begun.
