Chapter 96: Honey Bread Rolls
Chapter 96: Honey Bread Rolls
So many festivals to look forward to! Naoki's heart stirred at the thought.
Ivan scanned their surroundings and remarked, "It doesn't seem like you have a horse Pokemon yet. Without one, you won't be able to participate in next month's horse race."
Naoki: "..."
As if he could just pull one out of thin air!
Horse Pokemon were already quite rare, and wild horses like Rapidash and Zebstrika roamed the endless grasslands, which were nowhere to be found near Yellow Rose Town.
The only Mudsdale lived in the foothills, an environment rarely encountered in this area.
As for the other horse Pokemon, that left only Galarian Rapidash and Cursola.
He couldn't very well ride his Golurk to the Galar region and try to steal a Rapidash from a Galarian Queen!
Ivan seemed to realize this as well and laughed awkwardly, "If we don't have a horse, we can just watch the race from the sidelines together!"
Naoki shrugged, "We'll see."
Maybe one day he'd get lucky and encounter a wild horse in the mountains?
"Okay!" Ivan nodded. With work to do, he bid Naoki farewell and left the ranch.
Watching his retreating figure, Naoki fell into thought.
Today was February 21st, only two days away from the Cattle and Sheep Appraisal Contest.
The ranch only had three Pokemon that could enter: Gogoat, and two Miltank.
The Miltank had just been acquired recently and hadn't been with them long enough to achieve the glossy coats that came with a healthy diet and relaxed lifestyle.
With this in mind, Naoki headed to the goat pen to observe the wool of his three Gogoat.
In comparison, the Gogoat's wool was much more presentable.
Their relaxed demeanor and nutritious diet kept them in excellent condition, with soft and shiny fur.
It was clear that they were the best choice for the upcoming contest.
With a smile, Naoki addressed the three Gogoat, "Show them what you've got and bring home that first-place prize!"
That way, his daily efforts in making them Grass Cookies wouldn't go to waste.
The Gogoat looked at him, confused, "Meeeh?"
Naoki turned and left, heading to milk the Miltank.
The ranch now had three Miltank, two of which Naoki had brought back from town.
With their company, the lonely Miltank had found companions, and together, they provided Naoki with an abundance of milk each day. Along with the Gogoat's milk and Saltrock's rock salt, the ranch was bringing in a substantial income.
Naoki planned to use this money to install air conditioners in the house, the chicken coop, the Pokemon cottage, and the salt house.
Come summer, he and his Pokemon could relax at home, enjoying the cool air and feasting on watermelon during their vacation.
And the Miltank wouldn't have to worry about the scorching heat either; they could lounge comfortably in their barn, munching on feed.
With the ranch's financial crisis temporarily averted, Naoki now had ample time to experiment with new recipes.
That afternoon, he went into town and bought a variety of new ingredients, along with kitchen appliances like an oven and a frying pan, eager to showcase his culinary skills back home.
Today, he planned to use the oven to create something new.
In the kitchen, Naoki prepared the tools and ingredients he needed.
With everything prepared, Naoki rolled up his sleeves and got to work.
At that moment, Frost Milk Fairy scampered over and let out a cheerful cry as it watched Naoki's movements: "Mama!"
"Do you want to help make some treats?" Naoki asked.
"Mama!" Frost Milk Fairy nodded vigorously; it loved making desserts.
"Then let's do it together!" Naoki smiled and nodded.
It was perfect timing, as he was about to make a cake base, and with Frost Milk Fairy's cream, they could create a delicious caramel cream cake.
But before that, he needed to finish the dessert he had originally planned.
He mixed the high-gluten flour, eggs, milk, and sugar evenly, then added yeast and kneaded it into a dough. He covered it with plastic wrap and let it proof for thirty minutes.
After thirty minutes, he took the proofed dough and placed it on a floured board, entering 'roll-out' mode as he incorporated the softened butter.
When it was ready, he shaped the dough into small bread rolls, brushed a layer of sweet honey on top, and placed them in the oven to bake.
Soon, a 'ding' signaled the emergence of freshly baked honey bread rolls, arranged neatly in rows.
As he opened the oven door, a rich aroma of milk and honey wafted out.
Naoki couldn't help but swallow, his mouth watering.
The baked honey bread rolls had a golden, crispy crust, but the inside was incredibly soft and stretchy. They were fluffy and tender, with a delightful sweetness from the honey.
"Perfect!"
Naoki gave one of the rolls to Frost Milk Fairy, who was waiting eagerly beside him, and only after finishing one himself did he begin to check the information on this delicious treat.

"Not bad at all," Naoki thought to himself as he considered the information about the bread rolls.
He just so happened to know a Bear Pokemon.
The image of the mischievous Bear Baby flashed through his mind.
Come to think of it, he realized he hadn't seen Bear Baby in several days.
It had been almost five days since its last visit to the ranch.
"I hope it hasn't gotten into any trouble," Naoki worried. He stepped out of the room and stood under the eaves, gazing toward the back mountains.
Not far away, a Butterfree was collecting nectar from flowers. Remembering how it flitted around the ranch every day, Naoki called out to it:
"Butterfree, have you seen Bear Baby lately? Has it come by the ranch?"
"No..."
Butterfree shook its head gently; it hadn't seen Bear Baby.
"Alright."
In that instant, Naoki's mind raced with countless possibilities.
Perhaps it had been caught by a passing trainer, fallen into a cliff and couldn't get back up, or encountered some danger...
