Chapter 959: Night City: I'm Just a Passing Teacher
Chapter 959: Night City: I'm Just a Passing Teacher
"Who are you? Until yesterday, I was just a menial laborer in Academy City."
"But starting today, I am a proud teacher at XX High School."
Upon hearing Night City's words, Stiyl's face turned angry, clearly not believing a word of Night City's claim. Meanwhile, Kamijou Touma, standing behind Night City, was surprised and exclaimed, "What? This guy is going to be our school's new teacher?"
Although Shi Mei and Stiyl were on the side of magic, they weren't like Night City, who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere, or Kamijou Touma, a lowly student. They had some knowledge about Academy City and the scientific side.
Some of the powerful espers in Academy City were indeed comparable to mighty magicians, but most of the teachers were ordinary people.
Night City had just ignored the 'Dispel Intruders' spell and had cleaved Stiyl's 'King of Witch Hunters' in one strike. Any fool could see that Night City was no ordinary person.
"It seems there are others besides us who have their eyes on Index. In that case, we can't let you leave here alive."
Night City claimed to be an ordinary teacher at a high school in the 7th School District of Academy City, but neither Stiyl nor Shi Mei believed his words.
The white-haired nun in Kamijou Touma's arms was named Index, and the name 'Index' also meant 'Directory.'
Index possessed an eidetic memory, and her brain housed ten thousand and three hundred grimoires, earning her the title of a walking magical library.
It was only natural that her vast collection of grimoires from the British Orthodox Church would attract the envy of others.
Clearly, the mysterious Night City had caught the attention of Stiyl and Shi Mei, who suspected him of having ulterior motives for Index's grimoires.
The fire giant that Night City had previously split in two reappeared, accompanied by a wave of heat, its massive body once again standing before Night City.
Kamijou Touma, standing behind Night City, witnessed this and quickly reminded him, "Mr. Night City, I'm also a student at a high school in the 7th School District.
This red-haired delinquent priest can continuously revive his fire giant, and the only way to defeat it is to..."
Kamijou Touma had been attacked by Stiyl in his dorm room before, and with his 'Imagine Breaker' ability to nullify all supernatural powers, along with his keen observational skills, he had discovered Stiyl's magic weakness.
As he was about to inform Night City of what he knew, Night City interrupted him before he could finish speaking.
"Young man, this is my battle. If you reveal his ability to me, it would be unfair to him.
As for the weakness you mentioned, I've already noticed it. His magic power seems to originate from the runes pasted all around him.
But aside from removing those runes, this fire giant has other vulnerabilities."
Stiyl felt belittled by Night City's words, and as a wave of flames swept the arena, two more giant fire giants emerged from the rune-formed flames.
"How arrogant! As long as I'm within the range of my 'Rune Seal,' the King of Witch Hunters can revive indefinitely. I'd like to see how you plan to defeat my magic!"
As the three giant fire giants surrounded Night City, Kamijou Touma, standing behind him, wore a worried expression.
The Flame Giant known as the "Witch-Hunting King" was a formidable opponent, capable of sending Touma Kamijou running for cover. If it weren't for the "Imagine Breaker" and the fire extinguishing devices in the dorm's hallway, he would have been in serious trouble.
Now, out in the open on the street, they had no such safety net. Three of these challenging Flame Giants surrounded the unfamiliar teacher, and the situation seemed dire. Could they really win against such odds?
Kamijou looked at Night City, encircled by the Flame Giants, and then at the sword marks on the ground from Night City's recent attack. For some reason, Kamijou felt a sense of unease.
Stiyl Magnus, a Runic Magician from the Necessarius, a special unit of the Church, was only 14 years old, but he had already deciphered all 24 existing Runic letters and developed six new ones with unique powers. He was a true magic prodigy.
The "Witch-Hunting King" was a Pope-class magic, and theoretically, it shouldn't have been defeated. Yet, Kamijou couldn't shake the feeling that Night City was more than he seemed.
"Boom—!"
As the three Flame Giants simultaneously attacked Night City, a scorching heat wave engulfed the area, turning the surrounding ground into scorched earth in an instant. Night City, however, had leaped into the air, now hovering mid-jump.
"Let me tell you, there's no such thing as an invincible magic in this world, not even for you, the so-called infinitely regenerating Flame Giant.
Magic is ultimately powered by the magician's mana. With your limited mana, how can you achieve infinite regeneration for your magic?"
Night God Style, Third Form - Mad Butterfly!"
A barrage of high-speed consecutive sword slashes exploded in mid-air, each strike dense and rapid, like butterflies scattering from a flower bed, raining down from above.
The three Flame Giants, caught in the storm of slashes, were repeatedly cut and healed by the numerous strikes. In just a few seconds, Stiyl's Witch-Hunting Kings had been defeated multiple times.
As Night City landed back on the ground, the three Flame Giants that had been on the field were now reduced to one again.
This outcome wasn't because Night City's attack had eliminated two of the Flame Giants, but because Stiyl had voluntarily released his magic.
The reason was simple: as Night City had pointed out, his spell, "Witch-Hunting King," might be able to infinitely resurrect within the range of the Runic inscriptions, but each reconstruction of the defeated Flame Giants required a certain amount of his mana.
Although the mana consumption wasn't excessive, it added up over time, and controlling three Flame Giants simultaneously demanded a significant amount of mana and mental energy.
Continuing to use mana to repeatedly resurrect the three Flame Giants would have been a disadvantageous move, so Stiyl had no choice but to release the magic.
Night City, now back on the ground, seemed as relaxed as if he had just finished a simple warm-up exercise. Smiling lightly, he looked at Stiyl and said, "You see, I was right, wasn't I?"
