Chapter 959: Kuro is Truly Formidable!
Chapter 959: Kuro is Truly Formidable!
Banotemiral – a remote island in the New World where only a single town existed. Originally under the Red Hair Pirates' protection, its allegiance recently shifted when a subordinate from Luffy’s Grand Fleet – specifically the fleet formed from pirates released at Kolf Kingdom – torched Shanks’ flag and hoisted the Straw Hat Pirates’ emblem.
Thanks to the proclaimed authority of the "Fifth Emperor", no pirates dared attack. Those already lurking here had pledged themselves automatically to the Straw Hat Pirates.
A few pirate ships docked at the port. Ahead, groups of pirates loitered, their loud voices echoing through the streets.
In one alley, two pirate crews crossed paths.
"Hey, Captain Blake, how’s business?"
"Not bad lately. We looted a few merchant ships. But did you hear? Kaido and Big Mom – both Four Emperors – have allied!"
"Heard it! Major news. The world’s getting wilder. With two Four Emperors teaming up, the Navy won’t sit idle. This is our chance to rise!"
"Exactly! I serve the Fifth Emperor. When chaos erupts, we’ll seize every rival’s territory!"
They boasted – until the sea at the port suddenly surged violently.
"Captain! The ships… the ships!!"
A pirate screamed, eyes wide, pointing at the harbor.
"What about the ships?!" The captain snapped, turning toward the port. His face paled instantly. "The ships… they’re floating?!"
"What?!"
Captain Blake followed his crewmate’s gaze. His jaw dropped.
The pirate ships at the port now hovered mid-air, lifted by invisible force.
"There’s someone in the sky!"
A pirate shouted, pointing upward.
Two shadowy figures materialized above the harbor.
Suddenly, they vanished. Just like that – ghosts vanishing in daylight. If not for the ships still suspended, they’d think they’d hallucinated.
In the Grand Line, strange phenomena were common, but ships levitating? That was rare.
A breeze swept through, tugging at their clothes, rustling their hair.
Then –
A pirate’s head flew off. Blood sprayed. Bodies collapsed, staining the street crimson.
The breeze faded. A shirtless man stood amid the carnage, sheathing a black blade. He glanced at the stunned onlookers. "What’s with the staring? Never seen dead pirates before?"
Beside him, yellow light coalesced into a humanoid figure. "Aww~ Scary!"
"You wish, Gramps." The man rolled his eyes.
It was Kuro and Lucius Kro.
Hungry, they’d chosen this inhabited island to land. But sensing hostile auras near the pirate ships, they’d dealt with them preemptively.
Kuro flicked his wrist. Seawater surged from the port, washing the corpses into the ocean.
"Restaurant owner! Come out!"
The chef, trembling under a white hat, emerged.
Kuro summoned gold bars from thin air. "Two rooms and food. If this isn’t enough…" He snapped again. A torrent of bloodstained seawater rained from the sky, swirling with fresh Sea King meat. "This should cover it. Now, serve."
The chef stood frozen until, finally, he muttered, "What the hell is happening…"
But guests were guests. Money had changed hands. He had work to do.
---
New World, near the Navy Headquarters.
Sakazuki sat at the desk once Kuro’s. Their flagship had joined his warship, sailing toward Headquarters.
"Nowhere near as bad as it could’ve been", Sakazuki muttered, puffing a cigar.
"Losing G-3 was a price, but destroying Blackbeard’s influence for a fortress? A bargain. Borsalino reported retreating from Wano Country."
"Yada the bandit!" Lida cheered.
She’d feared Kuro might get stuck in Wano, where two Four Emperors clashed. Even Kuro, reckless as he was, wouldn’t recklessly fight Emperors without certainty.
Klah adjusted his glasses, relieved.
Still, Sakazuki smirked.
Pirates hiding in the New World’s rearlines would’ve dragged the Navy into chaos. Better they struck first.
Kuro’s ambush at G-3 caused minimal casualties – only the fortress fell. Blackbeard’s fleet? Wiped out. Half their commanders – gone.
Commanders mattered. Those Sixth Level Prison escapees, with bounties worth millions, were Sakazuki’s targets. Now Kuro had erased them in one sweep.
But dangerous? Absolutely.
Sakazuki clenched his fist, crimson flames flickering.
"Marshall D. Teach… that bastard."
The Navy’s main force had diverted to Arabasta, leaving the New World vulnerable. They’d aimed to crush Blackbeard – but Teach had double-crossed them, targeting Kuro directly.
Hunting Devil Fruit users? Sakazuki knew the rumors. But Kuro’s powers? The goal?
If Kuro had faltered even slightly…
Sakazuki’s lips curled.
Lucius Kro’s strength was terrifying.
And Kuro – at this age, stronger than they’d ever been.
