Chapter 957: I Believe Now Is the Best Time to Talk!
Chapter 957: I Believe Now Is the Best Time to Talk!
Ivan’s words were unadorned, and although Chief Vic didn’t fully understand them, he knew that the "rest" Ivan mentioned was probably more than just a simple break...
"Open fire, open fire!" Realizing the gravity of the situation, Chief Vic immediately shouted.
The police officers, already on edge, didn’t hesitate to pull the triggers. A continuous rain of bullets shot forward, forming a powerful crossfire.
The moment the bullets were fired, Chief Vic’s fear lessened considerably. Even with the ability to control Lightning, getting hit by bullets would still cause injury or even death, right?
After all, they were here to deal with terrorists. Although they didn’t bring heavy artillery or have time to request helicopter support, their firepower was still formidable!
Ivan had long been curious about the effectiveness of Muggles’ weapons, so he didn’t rush to end the confrontation. Instead, he raised his left hand in front of him and created five layers of invisible Magic Barriers.
The dense barrage of bullets pelted the Magic Barriers relentlessly, quickly creating fine cracks. By the time the first wave of attacks ended, the first Magic Barrier shattered.
Ivan raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised. Although these Magic Barriers were created casually, the weapons used against him were just low-powered handguns and police rifles. What if they were facing dozens of sniper rifles, several missiles, or even a Nuclear Weapon?
The first two could be avoided by transforming into flame, but Ivan wasn’t confident he could withstand a Nuclear Weapon.
Of course, such a city-destroying attack was not something Muggles could easily initiate. And he wasn’t a statue; he could Apparate away the moment he saw a nuclear missile...
While Ivan was contemplating how to use Magic to counter technology, the North American police officers were terrified by his ability to deflect bullets with his bare hands.
As a Muggle who couldn’t perceive Magic, Chief Vic couldn’t see the invisible barriers. All he saw was "Odin" raising his left hand, and the bullets aimed at him stopping in mid-air before falling to the ground.
A scene he had only seen in movies was now unfolding before his eyes, causing Chief Vic’s scalp to tingle.
Realizing that his gun was no threat to "Odin", Chief Vic quickly pressed the communication device on his chest, intending to request backup from higher-ups. Such a monster could only be dealt with by the regular military.
Just then, a hand reached out and snatched the communication device, crushing it into pieces. In the next moment, Ivan’s voice sounded beside him.
"Let’s end this here. I don’t want to make things too big..."
Chief Vic turned his head sharply and saw that Ivan had silently crossed the police line and appeared right next to him. His mouth opened wide in a scream, but before he could make a sound, a blinding flash of lightning filled his vision.
Ivan used Magic to create a small lightning field, instantly subduing the more than twenty police officers. Then, he gently waved his wand to modify their memories.
When they woke up, they would find their world still scientific, with no trace of Magic.
As for the destroyed square and Woolworth Building? That was the work of Middle Eastern terrorists, with no connection to Wizards...
The moment Ivan finished the battle, Cornell and the others Apparated into the square.
They had been observing Ivan and Grindelwald’s fight from a distance. Considering Ivan’s earlier instructions, they hadn’t dared to appear on the battlefield prematurely.
"Lord Hals, what about Grindelwald? Is he dead?" Cornell asked urgently.
"I think he's still alive, probably ran away!" Ivan shook his head, sounding rather helpless.
For powerful Wizards like them, if someone was determined to escape, there was no way to stop them.
This battle at the Magical Congress was supposed to be a good opportunity, but Grindelwald was clearly well-prepared. He not only sabotaged the Department of Mysteries in advance but also planned his escape route carefully.
Additionally, the Horcruxes were a significant problem. If they didn't find a way to destroy them, even if they killed Grindelwald this time, he could still be resurrected by his loyal Acolytes through a resurrection ritual, crawling back from Hell.
Hearing that Grindelwald was still alive, Cornell and the others looked extremely grim.
This International Wizards' Federation meeting was a major embarrassment for the North American Congress of Magic. Not only did two consecutive Ministers of Magic die in the Congress Building, but even the Congress President was replaced. Now, Grindelwald had successfully escaped, which was like a slap in the face for them.
Despite his frustration, Cornell knew he couldn't blame Ivan. On the contrary, they owed a lot to Ivan's assistance in driving Grindelwald away. Otherwise, they might all still be at his mercy, and a total wipeout wasn't out of the question.
"Grindelwald is heavily injured this time. He should be more cautious in the short term", Ivan said, noticing Cornell's worry. He then turned to look at the Woolworth Building, where Muggles were peering out of the windows, and continued, "You'll have to handle the Muggles in the building yourselves. I think a terrorist attack would be a good cover story..."
America had been aggressive in the Middle East for years, and terrorist attacks were not uncommon in North America. The Muggles were probably used to it by now.
Cornell nodded and immediately instructed the available Aurors to follow Ivan's suggestion, erasing the memories of those who had witnessed the events.
"By the way, Director Cornell, how are the representatives from other countries? Any casualties?" Ivan asked with concern.
"They are all safe in the Third-Floor Lounge. Only a dozen or so had bad luck and were hit by the spell's backlash. They are currently being treated in the Infirmary", Cornell explained, his voice heavy. He then apologized to Ivan, explaining that this meeting would likely be a wasted trip.
With three Ministers of Magic from major magical nations dead, the meeting couldn't continue. They would have to wait until the countries selected new Ministers before reconvening.
"No, I believe now is the best time to talk! So, let's continue the meeting, Minister Connor!" Ivan countered, his tone meaningful.
