Chapter 956: Ivan: No Need to Worry, the Threat Has Been Eliminated...
Grindelwald wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and did not respond to Ivan's taunt. As the fake President of the North American Congress, he naturally dared not store the Key anywhere else; otherwise, his cover would be blown, and all his efforts would be for naught.
However, Grindelwald's silence did not mean he was not seething with anger.
Although they had already escaped the Magical Congress Building, he had no intention of leaving just yet. With a flick of the Elder Wand, a row of cars parked in front of the building began to float into the air and hurtled toward Ivan at an unimaginable speed.
"Reducto!" Ivan gripped the Bone Wand and swung it with all his might, causing the frontmost Rolls-Royce to explode instantly.
The debris, under the influence of a Transfiguration Spell, quickly reformed into a massive Iron Shield, blocking the incoming cars one by one. The shield then disintegrated back into fragments, which, infused with the eerie Fiendfyre, rained down like cannonballs, bombarding Grindelwald's position.
Flames and explosions erupted on the plaza in front of the building. When the dust settled, the once smooth brick pavement was pockmarked and uneven, as if it had been plowed by heavy artillery.
Grindelwald, however, had already vanished from his spot. Ivan quickly scanned the area, knowing that the Invisibility Cloak's function had been compromised, so the only possibility was Apparition!
Just as Ivan was wondering if Grindelwald had fled, a black spell beam suddenly shot from behind. Sensing the danger, Ivan immediately transformed into a flame to dodge it.
The black beam passed through where Ivan had been, striking a lamppost behind him and melting it into a puddle of molten iron in mere seconds.
The terrifying power of the spell made Ivan's scalp tingle. He quickly reformed his body and cast a Protego on himself, ensuring he wouldn't suffer the same fate as the lamppost.
It was mid-afternoon, and the Woolworth Building was located in downtown New York. The battle between Ivan and Grindelwald had barely begun when it was discovered by passing Muggles.
The sight of cars flying and explosions ringing out plunged the entire street into chaos.
"Confringo!" Grindelwald deflected a few spells and coldly waved his wand, casting an Explosion Charm. However, his target was not Ivan but the adjacent Woolworth Building!
A violent fireball slammed into the building, causing it to shake violently. Shards of glass and bricks rained down like a storm, and the Muggles on the street either cowered on the ground or fled in panic.
"Monster, demon... someone save me!"
"Devil, it's witchcraft!"
...
Hearing the cries of terror, Ivan's expression darkened.
He had not anticipated that Grindelwald would suddenly shift his attack to the Muggles. There was no time to stop him.
Ivan surveyed the frightened Muggles, realizing why Grindelwald had not fled—his opponent was clearly planning to expose the existence of wizards through this battle.
It seemed... he needed to end this quickly!
Ivan made up his mind, raising the Bone Wand high. Under the influence of the powerful Magic, the once clear sky turned dark with clouds in an instant.
"Lightning!" Ivan swung the wand toward Grindelwald, and in a moment, a dozen thick lightning bolts descended from the sky, converging into a formidable Thunderstorm that enveloped the entire square.
The terrifying Thunderstorm unleashed its full power the moment it hit the ground. Dense arcs of electricity lashed out, spreading in all directions. The hard tiles on the ground cracked and split, forming a web of fissures.
In no time, the entire square had turned into a wasteland.
Ivan closed his eyes and sensed for a moment. Grindelwald's Magic had completely vanished from in front of the building, as if he had been obliterated by the Thunderstorm.
The lightning was incredibly fast, and Grindelwald might not have been able to dodge it. However, considering that he had an undestroyed Horcrux, Ivan dismissed the idea that Grindelwald was dead and concluded that he must have escaped, injured.
"My God?!"
Just as Ivan was lost in thought, a trembling voice came from behind him. He turned around to see a row of police cars surrounding the square.
Chief Vic stepped out of the lead car, staring in shock at the square, which looked as if it had been hit by a missile.
He had received a report from a civilian about a terrorist attack in front of the Woolworth Building and had rushed over with all his men. But what he saw upon arrival shattered his world view—a young man in his late teens, holding a short stick, had summoned lightning from the sky, causing a powerful Thunderstorm.
No one doubted that it was a coincidence, as the young man stood within the terrifying Thunderstorm without any harm.
Was he facing a terrorist who was the legendary Nordic god Odin?
Should they pray for God to come and fight against him?
"Drop... drop the weapon, police!" Upon seeing Ivan turn around, Chief Vic felt a chill run up his spine. He nervously pulled out his gun, but it did little to reassure him.
The twenty or so police officers beside him also drew their weapons, using the police cars for cover, and pointed them at Ivan, trembling.
"Calm down, put down your guns, Officers. The threat has been eliminated", Ivan shrugged, looking at the Muggle police officers and suppressing his frustration, trying to speak as calmly as possible.
Unfortunately, Ivan's words had no effect. The police officers were firmly convinced that the threat was right in front of them.
Look at the square, Chief Vic remembered it being one of New York City's landmarks just two days ago, and now it was nothing but ruins. Not to mention, they had all just witnessed the young man summoning a Thunderstorm to humanely destroy an innocent middle-aged man.
Perhaps the twenty or so guns gave Chief Vic a sliver of courage, or perhaps the supernatural events had driven him to hysteria. Chief Vic shouted, "I'm saying this one last time, drop the weapon, and release the hostages in the building!"
Hostages? Ivan was taken aback, glancing at the Woolworth Building, which had been hit by the Explosion Charm. He realized they must have misunderstood the situation.
"Why make things difficult for a good person?" Ivan sighed, then continued, somewhat helplessly, "Forget it. Since that's the case, you all should take a good rest. When you wake up, everything will be back to normal."
