Chapter 955: Damn, How Can a Car Fly?
Chapter 955: Damn, How Can a Car Fly?
As Ivan shouted, the Wizards present wisely fled under the cover of the Aurors to avoid becoming Grindelwald's next victims.
The once crowded Headmaster's Office suddenly became spacious.
Grindelwald, trapped in the center of the flames, furrowed his brow. Although his only remaining opponent was Ivan, the situation had not improved at all.
From their previous exchanges, Grindelwald had already grasped the tenacity of his adversary. Moreover, he was still trapped within the Congress of Magic. Once the Department of Mysteries reactivated the Protective Magic, he would be doomed to die here!
Since Apparition was impossible, there was only one way left to escape!
Grindelwald's eyes grew sharper. With a flick of the Elder Wand, the blue Fiendfyre on the ground rapidly coalesced into a Fire Whip, striking and shattering the annoying Unicorn Shadow!
Ivan, of course, did not stand idly by. With a wave of his wand, a cluster of Spell Beams shot toward Grindelwald, the shimmering blue arcs of electricity slithering like venomous snakes, interfering with Grindelwald's movements from impossible angles.
Despite the intense barrage, Grindelwald remained composed. Broken stone pillars and wooden chairs, guided by his magic, flew over to intercept each Spell Beam. The shattered remnants transformed into sharp blades, hurtling toward Ivan.
The Wall of Fire rose again, engulfing everything around. Ivan manipulated the Fiendfyre, gradually compressing Grindelwald's space for survival. However, Grindelwald, unusually, did not counter with a large-scale spell.
It was clear that the previous battle with over a hundred Aurors had taken a significant toll on him.
Just as the Fiendfyre, now shaped like a Phoenix, surged forward in a tidal wave, Grindelwald suddenly aimed his wand at the floor beneath his feet.
"Diffindo!"
The already battered floor, under the immense force of magic, split into layers, the dense cracks spreading like a spider web in all directions.
Snap...
In the next second, a dull thud echoed, and the floor beneath Grindelwald's feet instantly collapsed.
This was almost a replay of the battle inside Nicolas Flamel's tomb, but this time, Grindelwald was acting deliberately, attempting to use this extreme method to momentarily escape Ivan's pursuit.
The Fiendfyre Phoenix crashed to the ground, and a terrifying sea of flames engulfed the office. However, Grindelwald had already escaped, leaving behind a roughly two-meter-wide, irregular hole in the floor...
Ivan, of course, would not let Grindelwald escape so easily. Without even waiting for the Fiendfyre to dissipate, he leaped down.
His wide Wizard Robes, extended by a Transfiguration Spell into a massive cloak, supported him like a glider, allowing him to fly through the air.
As Grindelwald fell, he waved his wand, pointing it at the arched spire in front of the main door on the first floor.
The two golden Eagle Statues flanking the spire suddenly came to life, blinking their eyes. One of the eagles flapped its wings forcefully, swiftly soaring to Grindelwald's side. Its powerful talons clamped firmly onto Grindelwald's shoulders, carrying him toward the entrance of the Congress of Magic.
Another Bald Eagle let out a high-pitched screech and charged at Ivan with a desperate attack.
Ivan spurred the cloak on his back, moving like a masterful eagle, and easily sidestepped the charging Bald Eagle. He then countered with an Explosion Charm, reducing the golden Bald Eagle to fragments.
This brief delay gave Grindelwald the chance to mount the back of the Eagle Statue, with the exit just a short distance ahead!
Due to the chaos that had erupted, the Aurors from the North American Magic Congress were either busy extinguishing fires in the Department of Mysteries or protecting important figures. As a result, the exit was completely unguarded, and he could easily break through.
A smile crept onto Grindelwald's lips, but it was quickly replaced by a sudden, inexplicable sense of dread, as if a life-threatening danger was looming nearby...
Grindelwald's face changed abruptly, and he quickly reached into his chest, pulling out a silver Raven. He was about to throw it, but it was already too late!
The silver Raven turned red in an instant and exploded as soon as it left his hand. Blinding heat filled Grindelwald's vision, and the protective charms on his body shattered. The shockwave propelled him through the glass at the entrance, sending him flying out of the Congress Building.
...
Meanwhile, outside the Woolworth Building in Downtown New York, two Muggle security guards were idly watching the bustling traffic.
Suddenly, they felt a faint tremor in the ground. Just as they were wondering if they had imagined it, the glass behind them exploded, and a figure flew past them, crashing into a luxury car parked by the roadside.
The sudden scene left the two Muggle security guards in a state of shock.
What just happened? A terrorist attack?
Before they could process what was happening, they witnessed something even more terrifying: the man who had been blown out of the building, now missing half his left arm, stood up straight, gripping a small wand. Without any visible movement, the damaged car began to hover and then flew towards them.
"Damn it!" one of the Muggle security guards muttered, his truncheon falling from his hand. He couldn't help but wonder if he was dreaming.
How could a car fly?
What confirmed his suspicion was that the speeding luxury car gradually turned transparent and then vanished from sight. All he could hear was a voice behind him.
"Vanishing Spell!"
Ivan stepped out of the Congress Building, used a Vanishing Spell on the car, and then casually cast a Confundus Charm on the two stunned Muggle security guards.
"I didn't think you'd actually have the nerve to carry the Key I gave you..." Ivan said mockingly, looking at the disheveled Grindelwald, who had lost half of his left arm.
To clear his suspicions earlier, Ivan had been forced to hand over the real Key, but that didn't mean he hadn't tampered with it.
To prevent the worst-case scenario, Ivan had long prepared to destroy the Key if necessary, ensuring Grindelwald's failure.
