Chapter 951: Grindelwald's Counterattack
Chapter 951: Grindelwald's Counterattack
What evidence? Pierce was completely baffled. If they had sufficient proof, why didn't they expose Grindelwald right away in front of everyone?
Ivan maintained his mysterious demeanor and didn't offer any further explanation. After instructing Pierce and the others to proceed with the plan, he cast a Disillusionment Charm on himself and disappeared down the corridor.
...
In the afternoon, a series of urgent knocks echoed through the Chairman's Office.
"Come in..." Wilkinson stowed away the Silver Raven inside his robes and spoke with a serious tone.
The heavy door swung open in the next moment.
Cornell entered, accompanied by an Auror. When he saw that Wilkinson was alone in the office, he furrowed his brow and voiced his concern. "President Sir, why are you here by yourself? Where are the Aurors assigned to protect you? How could they be so negligent?"
"Don't worry, Cornell. This office has excellent security measures, and there are numerous hidden sentries outside. No one can sneak in here, and I'm perfectly safe", Wilkinson reassured him, waving his hand dismissively. Then, he changed the subject. "How is the investigation into those French wizards progressing? Any new developments?"
"The Aurors from the Department of Mysteries have examined their memories, but they found nothing", Cornell replied.
Wilkinson nodded, rising from his chair. He continued, calmly, "Since Bruno is clear, what about Britain's Ivan Hals? I heard he was quite restless this morning, frequently meeting with the Ministers of Magic after the attack. Have you figured out his intentions?"
"I've had someone look into it. It seems Master Hals is also investigating the true culprit behind the attack. According to the Aurors monitoring him, Master Hals suspects there might be an issue within the North American Magical Congress..." Cornell said hesitantly.
"Oh, he thinks that, does he? But we conducted a thorough search last night, and the results were obvious. It looks like Ivan Hals is trying to sow discord, to increase the Wizard Delegates' distrust in the Magical Congress!" Wilkinson said with a cold laugh.
"However, President Sir, I believe Master Hals might have a point. If Grindelwald had disguised himself as a high-ranking official, it would explain how he managed to bypass all the security measures and kill two Ministers of Magic. Perhaps there was something we missed during the search last night?" Cornell considered carefully.
Wilkinson stared at Cornell in silence for a moment before speaking in a playful tone. "Personally, I trust every colleague in the Magical Congress, but since you have these concerns, I will allow you to conduct some private investigations. Just remember to keep it confidential to avoid causing panic..."
"I understand, President Sir... I'll get to it right away!" Cornell responded, giving a nod to the Auror beside him before turning to leave the office.
As the two turned to go, Wilkinson's hand slipped into his sleeve, slowly drawing out his wand.
Imperio~ (Imperio)
Wilkinson swiftly cast the spell non-verbally, aiming it directly at Cornell, who was about to open the door.
But Cornell was clearly prepared. As Wilkinson cast the spell, he dropped to the ground and rolled out of the way, narrowly avoiding it.
Wilkinson likely hadn't anticipated Cornell's reaction to be so swift. He momentarily froze, and in that split second, an indescribable sense of danger surged through him.
His entire body tensed, and he instinctively tilted his head. The invisible Blade of Magic passed by his side, the sharp wind pressure slicing a gash into his cheek. The wooden desk in front of him was cleanly split in two, collapsing to the ground with a loud thud.
Wilkinson took several steps back, his gaze shifting to the Auror standing beside Cornell. His brow furrowed as he confidently declared, "Ivan-Hals?!"
In his memory, the only person capable of such powerful Magic was the genius Wizard from Britain.
As Wilkinson had suspected, once his identity was confirmed, Ivan dropped his disguise, gradually transforming back to his original form. He glanced down at the fallen Cornell and quipped, "I told you so, Director Cornell. If you had insisted on coming in alone to test this Presidentmaster, you'd likely be dead by now."
"Thank you, Lord Hals. You saved my life", Cornell said, climbing to his feet with a sense of trepidation. Although Wilkinson hadn't intended to kill him, being under the Imperius Curse would have led to a search of his memories, and that would have been a death sentence.
Before they could exchange more words, the office door was thrown open. Sensing something amiss, Wilkinson had already activated the room's alarm system. Almost immediately, over a hundred Aurors rushed in, surrounding the spacious Headmaster's Office.
"Cornell has betrayed us. He conspired with Ivan-Hals to attack me. I order you to capture them!" Wilkinson commanded before Ivan or Cornell could speak.
However, to his surprise, the Aurors responsible for his protection did not move against Ivan and Cornell. Instead, they drew their wands and pointed them at him.
Wilkinson narrowed his eyes and watched as the President of the Asian Association and leaders from various countries, along with their representatives, entered the room with the Aurors.
Bruno clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, shouting, "Grindelwald!"
He had learned from Ivan about the Minister of France being under Grindelwald's control, meaning he had been manipulated for months. The humiliation made him want to tear Grindelwald apart.
Wilkinson, however, ignored him and turned his attention to Ivan, asking with a curious tone, "It seems you've managed to convince them. Could you tell me how you did it?"
In just a few hours, Ivan had not only cleared his name but also incited Cornell and others to rebel against him, the Congress Chair. This was truly astounding to Wilkinson.
Even if Ivan-Hals suspected him, he should have lacked decisive evidence...
Why did they believe him?
Ivan shrugged without answering, and the Russian Warlock stepped forward, mocking Wilkinson. "No matter how cunning you are, you couldn't have anticipated that Britain possesses a Relic capable of communicating with the Spirits of the Dead. It was Minister Igor himself who exposed your disguise..."
