Chapter 951: Are There Still Guardians Needed?
Chapter 951: Are There Still Guardians Needed?
"I'm not familiar with the little ones you mentioned."
A thoughtful look appeared in the old Sword Flood Dragon's eyes, and he shook his head slowly before speaking, "However, I can give you a token. With this token, you can inquire about their whereabouts at the Spirit Beast Hall and enter the sect's blessed land to search for them."
As his words fell, a beam of white light shot out from his mouth and stopped in front of Lu Chen.
When the spiritual light faded, it revealed a white jade token.
Engraved on the token was a slender flood dragon, lifelike and undulating slowly along the edges of the token. Upon closer inspection, it bore a resemblance to the Sword Flood Dragon.
"Thank you, Senior," Lu Chen said gratefully, accepting the token.
Upon returning to his cave abode, he inspected the myriad Sword Grasses in his Spirit Field before making his way to the Sword Palace.
Within the Sword Sect were numerous grand halls, and Lu Chen headed straight for the Spirit Beast Hall.
"Greetings, brother. Are you here to rent or purchase a spirit beast?"
As Lu Chen surveyed the interior of the grand hall, a wild and untamed-looking young woman approached him and asked proactively.
"Greetings, sister. I am Lu Chen from the True Sword Peak, and I wish to inquire about the whereabouts of three spirit beasts. May I trouble you to inform me about them?" Lu Chen asked with a smile.
"Please ask, brother. I will tell you all that I know," the young woman replied.
"The three spirit beasts are the White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape, the Xuan Heaven Luan Bird, and an ancient dragon tortoise," Lu Chen began. "They share a common trait—they were all relocated from the Yunxu Domain over eighty years ago. The White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape and the Xuan Heaven Luan Bird were still young beasts at the time."
"Relocated from the Yunxu Domain's Sword Sect... I vaguely recall that," the young woman said, her dark eyes shifting rapidly. "The Xuan Heaven Luan Bird... due to its incredible speed and ability to teleport, if I remember correctly, it was taken as a mount by a late Nascent Soul stage uncle from the Soaring Void Sword Peak."
"As for the White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape and the dragon tortoise, they are kept in the sect's blessed land and occasionally appear within the sect," she added.
The Xuan Heaven Luan Bird had become someone's mount?
Lu Chen's expression froze in surprise.
Regardless, being chosen as a mount by a late Nascent Soul stage cultivator was a favorable outcome for the Xuan Heaven Luan Bird.
"May I ask, sister, if I present this token given to me by Senior Sword Flood Dragon of the True Sword Peak, will I be permitted to enter the sect's blessed land and visit my two spirit beast friends?" Lu Chen asked, taking out the white jade token and showing it to the young woman.
"That should not be a problem, but I still need to seek permission from my uncle," she replied, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes as she examined the token.
Holding the token, she led Lu Chen to a Nascent Soul stage cultivator.
After ascertaining Lu Chen's identity, purpose, and verifying the authenticity of the token, the Nascent Soul cultivator instructed the young woman to escort Lu Chen to the sect's blessed land.
The two of them entered the upper levels of the grand hall and arrived in a room inscribed with countless array patterns.
"Brother Lu, the blessed land is located in the void and houses numerous guardian spirit beasts of the sect. This transportation array will send us there," the young woman explained as she activated the array.
The array patterns lit up, and an irresistible force pulled Lu Chen into a chaotic space.
After a moment, he felt solid ground beneath his feet.
Before Lu Chen could survey his surroundings, a Nascent Soul True Lord flew over to them.
After a brief inspection, the True Lord permitted them to proceed further.
"Brother Lu, several spirit beasts were relocated from the Sword Sect of the Yunxu Domain back then," the young woman explained as they continued. "Among them, the White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape and the Xuan Heaven Luan Bird, who were both young at the time, have grown and developed remarkably."
"That ape possesses astonishing combat power. It has fought with countless spirit beasts of all sizes in the blessed land, and I remember it distinctly," she continued. "As for the Xuan Heaven Luan Bird, its unique talent caught the interest of several Nascent Soul stage uncles, and it eventually ended up in the hands of an uncle from the Soaring Void Sword Peak."
"As for the ancient dragon tortoise, I'm not very familiar with it. All I know is that it's rather mysterious and usually keeps a low profile, preferring to remain in its cave abode."
"It seems there are two White Jade Bearing-Heaven Apes. However, the older one perished in an accident while accompanying an inner sect disciple on an outing."
The young woman led Lu Chen as they flew swiftly through the majestic mountains and towering peaks, imparting news that surprised him.
"The elder White Ape is dead?" Lu Chen asked, a tinge of sadness in his voice.
He had developed a decent relationship with the elder ape and had even received a Heart Ape Fruit spirit seed from it. He never expected that they would meet such an unfortunate end.
"We've arrived."
"As expected, the White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape is sparring with another spirit beast again."
In the distance, the sounds of intense fighting echoed through the mountains.
A tiger demon, over three meters tall, leaped out from the boundless forest. It wielded a sharp broadsword, its eyes filled with a murderous aura that exuded an overwhelming sense of pressure.
Following close behind was another giant ape, standing at over four meters tall.
This ape's body resembled white jade, its eyes a vivid red, and its pure white fur shimmered with a faint spiritual glow that danced in the wind. It held a wooden club with peculiar patterns, exuding a formidable presence.
The two massive beasts fought with lightning-fast movements, causing the ancient and towering spiritual trees in the forest to topple one after another.
"A battle between an ape demon and a tiger fiend..." Lu Chen sighed.
Just then, a hint of helplessness flashed across the young woman's face, and she took out an ancient-looking flute artifact. She blew into it gently.
A peculiar sound reverberated through the entire mountain forest, bringing the fierce battle to an abrupt halt.
"Little Ape, come over here! You have a familiar visitor from home!" the young woman called out toward the depths of the forest.
A beam of white light shot over and was about to pounce into the young woman's arms, but upon seeing Lu Chen, it abruptly changed direction and came to a stop in front of him.
"Lu Chen?" the White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape asked in a hoarse voice, its eyes, like lustrous red jade, filled with surprise.
"It's me," Lu Chen confirmed.
"Little Ape, it's been a long time since we last met," Lu Chen said with a smile.
At that moment, the White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape had shrunk to about a meter in height, completely devoid of the terrifying aura it had earlier. Instead, it now gave off a delicate and adorable vibe.
If one didn't know its temperament, they might easily be deceived by its innocent appearance.
"Wow! I've missed you so much!" The White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape leaped onto Lu Chen, hugging his arms tightly.
"You must have missed my spirit fruits, right?" Lu Chen teased inwardly.
"You've reached the late Core Formation stage? Your cultivation has progressed even faster than mine!" the ape exclaimed, its eyes widening in surprise as it calmed down.
It was well aware of its potential to grow into a seventh-grade spirit beast, and their gap in strength had been evident when they parted ways. Yet, upon their reunion, Lu Chen's cultivation had already surpassed its own.
"Just pure luck," Lu Chen replied modestly.
He then took out several lotus seeds, a mix of silver-white and crimson, from his storage bag.
"These are spirit fruits that I've cultivated. They're a new variety that you haven't tasted before. Try them and see how they are," Lu Chen offered.
Before the White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape could react, he took out a bottle of spirit brew.
"This spirit brew is called Monkey Magic Wine, and there are only three bottles left. It's a perfect match for your White Jade Bearing-Heaven Ape clan. It's been so long since we last met, so I thought you could try this," Lu Chen explained.
"Fourth-grade, maybe even fifth-grade lotus seeds! And this Monkey Magic Wine... Where did you get these from?" the ape asked, its eyes widening in shock.
"Lu Chen, do you still need a guardian beast for your cave abode?"
At the sight of the Thunder Lotus seeds, the Pure Yang Golden Lotus seeds, and the Monkey Magic Wine, the little white ape's eyes nearly popped out of its head.
"What kind of life have you been living?"
