Chapter 95: The Severity of Lanchi's Official Problem
Chapter 95: The Severity of Lanchi's Official Problem
The classroom door opened from time to time, as students entered with light steps and casual conversations filled the room.
Some pretended to read, discreetly listening in on the discussions at the back of the class.
"I politely declined. I don't think we're a good fit for them."
Lanchi, seated at the back, nodded in response.
"..."
Hepburn fell silent.
Lately, Lanchi had been frequently spotted entering and exiting the most prominent dormitory on the first floor. Soon enough, students passing by noticed his room number, and it became common knowledge.
Hepburn already knew that he lived in Room 101.
She had heard that whenever visitors came, and Lanchi inquired about their opinions of Hepburn, they would show some signs of reluctance.
Or, if they accepted, they would indicate that they would only do so if Lanchi was willing to join as well.
Lanchi had refused outright.
This was what Princess Vivian told her during an accidental encounter.
Ever since Lanchi had said those strange things, their relationship, though still awkward, had become a little more harmonious.
Even though they might never be as close as they were when they were young, Vivian had started to make concessions, and Hepburn was no longer as suspicious of everyone.
"You really didn't have to do that..."
Hepburn looked at him and said.
This time, their Shadow World challenge had directly upgraded them from Iron-rank challengers to Copper-rank, and they were very close to Silver-rank.
As the Southern Continent Shadow World Management Association found it difficult to calculate such an outrageous process, they eventually awarded Lanchi and Hepburn with 95% of the maximum standard contribution points for this fourth-rank Shadow World. Furthermore, because they had defeated two cultists, they could claim an additional 650 pounds of the United Currency of the Southern Continent Kingdom as a reward when they went to the Association to complete the promotion procedure.
The benefits of this Shadow World didn't stop there.
According to school rules, if students joined a team and participated in Shadow World challenges, they would also receive team contribution points.
Team points directly determined the resources allocated by the school to the team, such as team funds and exclusive team buildings. They could also apply to the school for team activity holidays and accept high-difficulty college missions as a team, earning them additional credits.
The contribution points for this fourth-rank Shadow World, at 95%, were quite high and almost equivalent to a team taking on the challenge.
For teams that were already looking to recruit new members, Lanchi, a freshman who came with a high amount of "unallocated points" and was a fatherly figure, naturally became the top priority.
"If they can't respect my companion, then I won't consider joining their team. There's no need for them to feel uncomfortable or for you to be wronged during future interactions."
Lanchi spread his hands and said.
If he were to join a team, what he valued most was a harmonious atmosphere where everyone got along well. If they couldn't even show basic respect for his companion, there was no need for him to put both himself and Hepburn through that hardship.
"Lanchi, thank you."
What Hepburn felt most from Lanchi was respect.
This simple sincerity was priceless.
"However, if we can't find a team, it seems that we can only create our own. Otherwise, we won't be able to take on the high-difficulty missions in the real world, and we'll miss out on some activities, benefits, and holidays."
Lanchi understood what Hepburn meant from her expression.
It seemed that Hepburn still hadn't been approached by any teams.
Except for that ill-intentioned fellow, Modan Gaxiges, the Count's son.
If possible, Lanchi didn't really want to establish a team. The two of them intended to focus their free time on starting a business instead of developing a group.
"Alright."
Hepburn nodded.
She knew that what Lanchi valued most was a team holiday that allowed them to skip classes legitimately and real-world missions that earned them practical credits.
His primary goal was to miss as many classes as possible without falling into academic ruin.
As the two of them discussed their plans, a female voice suddenly drifted over from the adjacent hallway, interrupting their conversation.
"If you can't find a suitable team, you can join the Student Management Committee."
The voice was familiar, proud yet clear and crisp.
Lanchi recognized it instantly.
He and Hepburn turned their heads in unison to see Princess Vivian with her arms crossed, leaning against the wall next to the hallway. She was originally from the neighboring class but seemed to have come in search of Hepburn.
"What's that?" Lanchi asked, intrigued.
"Since there are various teams within the academy, there needs to be a student organization to manage these teams," Vivian explained as she sat down on a chair by the hallway. It was common for students to wander into other classrooms during breaks at this school, even if they didn't know anyone there.
"It's mostly about mediating conflicts and handling grievances among the teams, but the committee enjoys benefits and treatment similar to that of formal teams, or even better."
"And most importantly," she continued, "the president is a fair and just person. No one in the committee can abuse their power or discriminate against others. Additionally, whether you are human or a member of the demon tribe, as long as you have talent, he will appreciate you."
Vivian seemed to hold the president in high regard, which was why she was recommending it to Lanchi.
However, the Student Management Committee dealt with all sorts of conflicts and campus disputes among the numerous teams, and one wrong move could land you in the infirmary for a month or two. Thus, it was rare for newcomers to want to join the committee.
Vivian was a bit worried that she might have given the wrong suggestion, as Lanchi didn't seem like the type to enjoy conflict.
But she had underestimated him.
His eyes lit up as if he had discovered a new world. "What kind of tedious task is this? Mediating conflicts is my forte!"
Lanchi boasted with a cheerful smile, looking eager to showcase his skills to them. "It's our duty to ensure the smooth functioning of the campus and foster harmony among our peers. Hepburn, let's go check it out after class!"
"..."
As Vivian witnessed Lanchi's enthusiasm, a sense of foreboding crept over her.
She had seen Lanchi's behavior in the Shadow World of the Demon Academy.
Whenever this guy smiled so brightly, it usually meant that trouble was brewing.
Vivian quickly stood up and turned to leave, feeling as if she had unleashed a disaster upon Ikelite Academy.
Her initial intention was simply to help Hepburn find a place where she could experience a normal school life, but it seemed that she might have inadvertently altered the future of the academy itself.
If Lanchi joined the Student Management Committee, the president would gain a formidable new ally.
With Lanchi handling disputes...
He might not be able to please everyone.
But he could certainly make everyone equally unhappy without breaking a sweat!
