Chapter 95: Talking Too Much, It's Really Not Good!
Chapter 95: Talking Too Much, It's Really Not Good!
[Your skill, Grizzly Sword Technique, has improved. Experience gained: +267]
[You have engaged in a battle, gaining 258 Night Watchman profession experience.]
Before the battle with the Mountain Borer, Rain spent a long time observing his opponent and contemplating various combat strategies.
In the end, inspired by Hamilton's two sword strikes, all his hard work paid off.
After defeating the Mountain Borer, Rain received a generous amount of Night Watchman profession experience, advancing from level 3 to level 4.
However, the experience gained for Grizzly Sword Technique was relatively low.
This was understandable.
Rain had been swinging a hammer for a while, so his sword technique naturally improved at a slower rate.
Nonetheless, after two consecutive battles, Rain's Grizzly Sword Technique was almost at level 4, currently at 963/1000.
Rain flipped back to the main page of the system panel - 'Attributes' page:
Name: Ryan Kalan
Profession: Blacksmith lv1 (0/300) / Night Watchman lv4 (32/1000) / Dog Trainer lv2 (223/300)
Constitution: 10
Strength: 11
Agility: 11
Spirit: 11
Remaining Attribute Points: 1
Remaining Skill Points: 1
As Rain hesitated over how to allocate his attribute points, a deep voice suddenly sounded from behind him.
He recognized the voice as Endry's, but this time, the tone was unusually strange, filled with resentment and dissatisfaction, making Rain unsure for a moment.
"You ignorant commoners, how could you possibly understand the value of the Mountain Borer's Heart?"
"Why are you forcing me?"
"You bunch of idiots!"
"Ahh!"
A painful scream came from behind them.
The crowd, who were cleaning up the battlefield, immediately turned around.
An astonishing scene unfolded before their eyes.
Endry held a fine sword in his hand, which had pierced the chest of Schmidt, the representative of the County City and the butler of Viscount Hamadi, who stood beside him.
The location was the lower left side of the chest, clearly where the heart was located.
Schmidt's entire body shook like a sieve, one hand gripping the fine sword, the other pointing at Endry, his expression filled with disbelief. He mumbled incoherently, unable to utter a word, and slowly collapsed to the ground.
Rain and the others, who were cleaning up the battlefield, turned around in shock.
"Killing a companion for a treasure?"
"What's the meaning of this?"
Rain stared at the scene before him, dumbfounded.
"Has Endry gone mad?"
"He actually dares to kill the representatives of Earl Harris and Viscount Hamadi - Butler Schmidt - just like that?"
Endry remained calm, glancing at Schmidt, who was still twitching on the ground, and said, "Since I can't get it, you'll stay here too. Let's all die together!"
"Swish!"
Endry slashed the neck of the terrified gold mine overseer standing beside him.
The overseer clutched his neck tightly, and with a 'plop,' he fell to the ground, his body convulsing uncontrollably!
Endry then raised his head and looked around, his gaze falling upon Rain.
Hamilton, supported by Velen, watched Endry with a grave expression and said, "Endry, are you trying to kill and rob us?"
"You're way out of line! With so many of us here, you're seeking your own death!"
Endry scoffed, "Oh, you guessed? I knew you were strong, Hamilton. Indeed, your identity isn't as simple as just being a sheriff of a small town, is it?"
"But... that's not important now!"
"Hamilton, if you weren't injured, I might still be wary of you. Unfortunately, in your current state, how much strength can you exert?"
"A severely injured knight, an exhausted but strong Apprentice Knight, and a few ordinary men."
"I can still defeat you, even with my injuries." Hamilton pushed Velen aside and drew his knight's longsword, ready to confront Endry.
But after taking just one step, Hamilton's body wobbled, and his expression changed.
"You poisoned me?"
"Smart! Hallucinogenic gas, a useful tool that even a formal knight like you can't resist, especially in your current injured state." Endry displayed a ring on his right ring finger with a hint of pride.
"Hmm, hallucinogenic gas?"
Rain immediately felt something was amiss! The scene before him blurred, and he struggled to stand steady. The elite Night Watchmen were even worse off, falling to the ground like drunkards, unable to stand up after several attempts, babbling incoherently.
Clearly, the hallucinogenic gas was potent and effective against ordinary people.
In this state, even a ruthless person like Endry could easily defeat the Night Watchmen.
No wonder this guy was so determined to win!
So he had a trump card!
"Fortunately, I've gained quite some experience before coming here, and I've killed the Crystal Lizard and the Mountain Borer, which was just enough for an upgrade!"
"Next time, I must remember to keep some attribute points in reserve!"
"It seems my strength has been increasing too rapidly lately, and I've gotten a bit arrogant."
After his reflection, Rain immediately and silently added the attribute point to his Constitution.
Instantly, a warm current surged from his heart, spreading quickly to his limbs, making Rain feel energized again, and even the muscle soreness from his previous Power Surge vanished without a trace.
The dizziness and blurred vision he had experienced also disappeared.
However, Rain knew he had to act quickly.
Adding the attribute point didn't detoxify him, but rather refreshed his current poisoned state, just like the last time.
The air was still filled with poison, so he had to deal with Endry quickly.
As luck would have it, Endry's first target was also Rain.
The reason was simple; the treasure, the Heart of the Mountain Borer, was on Rain's body.
Killing and taking the treasure was the priority!
Endry walked up to Rain, looking smug, and said condescendingly, "Kid, you have quite a talent, but it's a pity. Your heart is where I'll aim."
After saying this, he pointed his fine sword at Rain's heart.
"By the way, do you have any last words for your loved ones? Perhaps, if I'm in a good mood one day, I might pass them on for you." Endry looked at Rain with a mocking expression.
Rain smiled slightly at Endry.
The next second, he rolled over and got up, and as the veins on his neck bulged, he let out a loud roar!
"Haa!!!"
Rain's mouth opened wide, and a roaring gust of air blasted out like a cannonball!
At such close range, even though Rain didn't intentionally charge up for the Roar Strike, the powerful sound wave swept over Endry like a tsunami.
Endry's face contorted in shock, his skin flapped violently in the strong wind!
At the same time, his eardrums ruptured instantly, and his head buzzed.
He stood there, frozen.
"Swoosh!"
A beautiful silver arc of light appeared in front of Endry.
Rain held his greatsword, maintaining the motion of a furious slash.
Time seemed to freeze.
The next second, a line of blood appeared on Endry's forehead, from head to toe!
"Pfft!"
Two bodies fell to the ground, one to the left and one to the right.
Endry was cut in half by Rain's greatsword.
"Talking too much is really not good!"
However, the poison was still not cured.
So, Rain quickly searched Endry's body.
But he regretted his decision to search the bodies on both sides.
Soon, Rain found a palm-sized leather pouch, a fine sword hidden in a wooden staff, an old diary with a sheepskin cover, and three differently shaped bottles.
After some thought, Rain also removed the ring from Endry's right hand's ring finger, a green gem ring that seemed to have a secret within.
The bottles that resembled antidotes were found, but Rain wasn't sure which one was the antidote.
Since Endry himself wasn't affected by the hallucinogenic poison, it was likely that there was an antidote.
After all, Endry's physical condition wasn't as good as a proper Knight, so if Hamilton couldn't withstand it, he shouldn't have either.
After the previous assassination attempt, Rain wasn't completely clueless about poisons and antidotes.
After some deduction, Rain took the most likely bottle and walked over to Cookie, who was swaying left and right.
Rain murmured, "Cookie, you've eaten so many delicious things for your master, it's not too much to ask you to test a medicine, right?"
"If this bottle isn't the antidote, it's most likely the hallucinogenic poison itself."
"Since it's a hallucinogenic poison, it shouldn't be lethal. Letting you smell it will, at most, make you go crazy for a longer time."
Rain opened the bottle, held his breath, and a faint green stench wafted towards Cookie.
Cookie immediately showed a face as if he was about to vomit, and in less than two seconds, he started retching.
This made Rain's heart skip a beat! Just as Rain thought he had made a mistake, Cookie's eyes soon cleared up, and his limbs began to slowly stand up, quickly regaining his ability to walk normally.
This made Rain happy, and it was indeed the antidote.
Rain also took a light sniff, and instantly, his face turned green!
"It's so stinky!"
But the effect was indeed good, and Rain's vision immediately became clear.
Right away, Rain proceeded to detoxify everyone present.
Soon, everyone recovered one by one.
Seeing Endry, who had already been cut in half, the crowd understood that Rain had saved them.
"A wizard apprentice? Not a bard?" Rain was taken aback.
"He was just wearing the skin of a bard, but in reality, Endry was a wizard apprentice."
"From the fact that he still needed a magic scroll to successfully cast the Acid Projectile, he's most likely just a wizard apprentice."
Hamilton shared his deduction.
