Chapter 95: Look, I Think It's the Right Time to Practice the Patronus Charm
Chapter 95: Look, I Think It's the Right Time to Practice the Patronus Charm
Ivan was a bit disappointed. He had been hoping to learn some wand-making techniques and make his own wand, but it seemed that was out of the question.
It made sense, though. If wand-making were that easy, Diagon Alley wouldn't have only one wand shop, Ollivanders.
"By the way, how's your Patronus Charm coming along, Mom?" Ivan asked, changing the subject.
"It's going well. What's this about you planning to learn it during the summer?" Aisha said, surprised, then frowned.
"The Patronus Charm is an advanced Spell, but it's not very useful in most situations. I think you should learn some more basic Spells!"
"Basic Spells? Like these?"
Ivan waved his wand repeatedly, muttering incantations. A sandwich on the table first floated up, then was torn into several pieces, and quickly transformed into a few birds in the air.
The clear chirping of the birds echoed in the hall, only to be scorched into charcoal by a roaring fire in the next moment.
The smell of roasted meat filled the air.
With the transformation structure destroyed, the charred meat soon turned to ashes and disappeared in the wind.
Ivan noticed this and shrugged, giving up the idea of showing more basic Spells. He looked at Aisha.
"Look, I think it's the right time to practice the Patronus Charm."
Aisha stared blankly at the scene.
Although Ivan had mentioned to her before that his grades at school were excellent, except for History of Magic, he was only in his first year. No matter how good his grades were, how strong could his Spellcasting ability be?
However, Ivan's performance had greatly exceeded Aisha's expectations. In just a few seconds, he had used the Levitation Charm, Splitting Charm, Transfiguration Spell, and Flame Charm in quick succession, casting them smoothly and seamlessly, showing a solid foundation.
Just the animal transfiguration alone was better than some adult Wizards in Knockturn Alley.
Seeing Aisha still in shock, Ivan wondered if he had shown off too much. He should have hidden some of his skills.
Ivan was regretting it when he felt his cheek being pinched. He yelped in pain and realized Aisha was rubbing his face with both hands and sniffing him, asking a barrage of questions.
She was confirming that he wasn't a Wizard disguised with Polyjuice Potion.
"What are you doing?" Ivan's speech was a bit slurred from the kneading. He was quite nervous during the process but tried to show his surprise and annoyance.
"I can't believe I gave birth to a genius!" Aisha propped her chin on her hands, her purple eyes staring intently at Ivan. She couldn't believe she hadn't noticed this before.
"There's no explaining a genius with common sense, just like the savior of the Wizarding world, Harry Potter, who defeated the Dark Lord when he was just a baby", Ivan said confidently.
Mentioning Harry was a small test. After all, Aisha's dissatisfaction with Dumbledore had been a concern for him.
"I didn't see anything special about you when you were born!" Aisha ruffled Ivan's hair, giving him a disapproving look. "And next time, use something else for magic practice, don't waste food!"
Ivan nodded, relieved that Aisha didn’t have an extreme reaction. He then asked softly.
“What about the Patronus Charm?”
“Let’s talk about it after breakfast.” Aisha stuffed a sandwich into Ivan’s mouth, making him shut up. She still hadn’t recovered from the shock.
After a hurried breakfast, Aisha finally accepted the fact that her son was a super genius. She became extremely excited and couldn’t wait to see Ivan’s abilities.
“Come on, let’s go to the training room in the Basement. If you impress me, I’ll consider teaching you.”
Ivan reluctantly followed Aisha down to the Basement, where he found it much larger than the upper two floors, divided into three areas: storage, workspace, and the training room.
Aisha entered the training room, changed out of her nightgown, and put on her usual dark green wizard robe. She wore a black glove on her right hand, with silver threads forming strange patterns. Several rings adorned her left hand.
“Alright, that’s enough.” Aisha stopped on the right side and turned to look at Ivan, gesturing for him to make the first move.
Ivan looked around the empty space, seeing only some practice dummies, a few wooden tables, and chairs scattered around.
To be honest, Ivan wasn’t used to facing off in such a direct wand duel, especially against a clearly more powerful wizard.
How was he supposed to fight?
Ivan felt quite depressed. Aisha, after waiting for a while, grew impatient and was about to speak.
In that moment, Ivan suddenly drew his wand.
There was no formal dueling etiquette, no warning before the fight began.
“Expelliarmus!”
A brilliant red light streaked through the air.
Aisha held back her words, a smile tugging at her lips. She tapped her wand, conjuring a magic barrier that deflected the red light.
When Aisha looked at Ivan again, he had already cast the Shield Charm on himself.
Then, a series of bird chirps filled the training room. With a sweep of his wand, Ivan transformed nearby objects into dozens of small birds, which flew in several formations toward Aisha under his guidance.
Aisha had no intention of attacking first; she was only testing Ivan’s strength. She moved slowly toward him, the glow of magic flashing on her right hand’s black silk glove.
Without incanting, Aisha lightly tapped her wand, and a spark flew out, expanding into a wide purple flame barrier. The birds collided with it and turned to ash before they could pass through.
At that moment, Aisha’s expression changed. She turned her head, and a blinding white light shot through the flames, grazing her hair and striking a dummy behind her.
“Such obvious fighting intent won’t do,” Aisha said with a smile, but her face suddenly changed.
A gust of wind swept past her. Aisha ducked and twisted her body, kicking out with her long leg to send the animated dummy flying.
