Si Yu sat up in the Gaming Pod, staring at the middle-aged woman in an apron standing before him. He sighed deeply. “Mom… You barging into my room is one thing, but why did you unplug the power cord again?”
“You didn’t answer when I knocked,” Si Yu’s mother said with a smile.
“I heard you, but I was busy at the moment—”
“Busy or not, you’re disconnected now. Hurry out and help me prepare dinner.”
“Ahhh—” Si Yu let out a drawn-out groan of complaint. “Mom~ Why can’t Dad help you instead?”
“Your father’s hiding in the garage with a VR headset.”
“You even know where he is… and still—”
“Men being playful is natural. As women, we just turn a blind eye unless they go too far. Otherwise, if I dragged him out of the garage today, tomorrow he’d hide in the basement, and who knows—by the day after, he might drain the swimming pool and hide in there.”
“Pure nonsense… Fine, I’ll come.” Si Yu gave up and clambered out of the Gaming Pod, trudging obediently to the kitchen to assist his mother.

Si Yu’s sudden and unceremonious logout had completely upended Feng Bu Jue’s plan.
Based on his calculations, players needed at least three hours to cross the jungle from the castle to the island’s edge. General Zaroff, however, was formidable and intimately familiar with the terrain. Though he couldn’t ignore obstacles to move at high speed, Feng estimated he’d cover the same distance in under two hours.
