Danzo Shimura, the feared "Shadow of the Shinobi World," was frantically fleeing through his lair, the Root base.
Watching Danzo's retreating figure, as desperate as a cornered dog, Yuyi Xuan Yue shook his head.
"He's truly aged; the boldness of his youth is long gone."
Even his supposed dedication to "supporting Konoha, the mighty tree, from the shadows" had gradually been corrupted by power.
"Unmoving as a mountain when Konoha is in peril."
This perfectly described the current state of the Root under Danzo's leadership.
Of course, these were none of Yuyi Xuan Yue's concerns.

However, this time, there was no Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, to stay back and buy him time.
Danzo, who had spent countless nights regretting that he had been a step too slow that day, and who had come so close to becoming the Hokage, now knew that even if he could go back in time and say those words earlier, their meaning would be completely different.

Kakashi put down his book, frowned, and hurried towards the Hokage building with Guy.
It wasn't just Kakashi who noticed something amiss; several other Konoha ninjas also reported their suspicions at that moment.
Not long after, a large group of Konoha ninjas headed towards the Root base upon receiving orders from the village's high command.
Danzo's actions had successfully drawn the village's attention.
"Just hold on a little longer," he muttered to himself. "The Konoha reinforcements will arrive soon."
However, the problem he faced was that the traps he had hoped would slow Yuyi Xuan Yue down were having minimal effect.
The most they accomplished was tearing a piece or two of clothing from Yuyi Xuan Yue's body.
As for the person himself, he remained unscathed.
Soon, amidst Danzo's angry roars, Yuyi Xuan Yue caught up. With a few swift moves, he pierced Danzo, who was now focused solely on escape, right through the heart.
What followed was rather anticlimactic.
Yuyi Xuan Yue caught up to Danzo, killed him, and the cycle repeated itself.
After several iterations of this, Danzo finally managed to escape the Root base and found himself under the scorching sun. Having long embraced the darkness, he now felt a strange sense of emotion at the warmth of the sun's rays.
Just then, a familiar voice rang out behind him.
"After this, you'll only have one Sharingan left."
As the voice fell, Yuyi Xuan Yue appeared behind Danzo.
The kunai thrust into his heart with practiced ease.
Danzo's body trembled, and with his last ounce of strength, he looked down at his right arm.
The gruesome Sharingan eyes that had adorned his pale arm were now closed, their menacing glare extinguished.
Only two Sharingan remained open, and one of them was slowly closing.
Danzo fell silent.
In the moment before death, he shot a complex glance towards Konoha and then vanished once more.
And just like before, when he reappeared, he lacked the courage to turn back and continued his pathetic escape.
But ultimately, he was too old.
"This is the last time," Yuyi Xuan Yue said as he appeared behind Danzo, preparing to strike.
Unexpectedly, Danzo suddenly spun around.
The panic and fear that had clouded his face were now gone, replaced by determination, coldness, and intense killing intent!
Danzo lunged forward, impaling himself on Yuyi Xuan Yue's raised kunai.
Then, with a fierce grip on Yuyi Xuan Yue's arm, he said, his voice a mix of calm and madness, "Yuyi Xuan Yue, you great enemy of Konoha! Even if it costs my life, I will take you with me to the underworld!"
"Forbidden Jutsu: Four Symbols Seal!"
Chilling black blood sprayed from Danzo's body.
Upon realizing he had only one Sharingan left, Danzo's rationality returned, and he clearly understood that his chances of escaping Yuyi Xuan Yue were slim to none. In this final moment, he summoned the spirit of a true shinobi of the shadows.
Using the remaining Sharingan to lower Yuyi Xuan Yue's guard, Danzo feigned continued escape but had, in fact, already forsaken his last chance of resurrection. He had turned himself into bait.
As Yuyi Xuan Yue approached and prepared to strike, Danzo turned and grabbed him, decisively employing the self-destructive Four Symbols Seal Jutsu.
Just like when Kakashi had used the Death Shadow Seal decades ago.
"Kakashi! This time, I, too, shall be the bait, just like you! Even if it costs my life, I will take this powerful enemy with me! Konoha..."
In his final moments, Danzo's thoughts turned to his old friend.
But before he could dwell on it further,
Suddenly,
A powerful force shook him loose from Yuyi Xuan Yue's arms.
Danzo watched as Yuyi Xuan Yue effortlessly broke free from his grasp. As the black blood from the Four Symbols Seal splattered towards Yuyi Xuan Yue, he retreated like a fierce wind, untouched by the deadly substance.
"No!!!" Danzo's face was filled with unwillingness.
Yuyi Xuan Yue, however, remained unmoved and commented,
"The idea of a last-ditch effort is good."
"But futile."
