Chapter 945: Transfer of Consciousness
Chapter 945: Transfer of Consciousness
Voldemort lowered his head, looking at the sudden burst of flames before him in disbelief.
In a sense, the combination of the Flame Path charm and the Fiery Flame was like the sharpest sword, effortlessly slicing through any obstacle in its path.
Previously, on the Hebrides Islands, the two spells together could easily cut through an entire island.
This time, although it wasn't as grand, Voldemort's body wasn't as hard as an island either.
As Voldemort was shocked by the death of the Basilisk, a flash of crimson flame passed through his chest.
Voldemort finally snapped out of his daze, staggering backward and looking down in disbelief at the dazzling cluster of flames.
A moment later, cracks began to appear on his body, like sun-dried soil.
Soon, the Fiery Flame disappeared, but the cracks on Voldemort's body became more numerous, and a faint red glow could be seen within.
He opened his mouth to say something, but only managed to utter a series of incoherent whimpers. His bright red eyes glowed even brighter, completely obscuring the thin pupils within.
With a loud bang, Voldemort's body suddenly tilted, and he fell heavily to the ground. Tom Riddle lay on the ground like a crudely made sculpture.
For a moment, the surroundings became quiet.
Rozier, who had been planning to watch the show from the side, looked bewildered. She never expected Kyle to have killed that Voldemort.
How did he manage to do that...
"Ooh...Ooh..." A sudden moan broke the silence.
It was Snape, not far away, whose body seemed to be out of control, shaking violently. His eyes rolled back, and his mouth opened slightly...
From a distance, Kyle seemed to hear a piercing howl.
Snape's shaking intensified, and his whole body almost jumped up.
"That Voldemort did something to him."
Rozier seemed to be in a good mood, kindly reminding Kyle, "If you want to save him, you'd better do something now."
"I..." Kyle frowned. It sounded simple, but he didn't even know what Voldemort had done. He asked Rozier, but she just floated there, not saying a word.
Kyle had no choice but to quickly walk forward. Several thick tree branches extended and tightly wrapped around the shaking Snape, immobilizing him.
But then Kyle hesitated.
He didn't know what had happened to Snape, so naturally, he didn't know what to do either.
How about tying him up and putting him in a box, letting Fawkes take them directly to St. Mungo's? Kyle thought. It was a good excuse for him to leave the forest without getting involved in the love-hate drama between Dumbledore and Grindelwald.
That's what he would do.
Kyle turned to Fawkes, but before he could say anything, he caught a glimpse of a crimson flash in Snape's unconscious eyes.
Kyle froze.
If he wasn't mistaken, that crimson color seemed to be the same as Voldemort's eye color...
He had turned Snape into a Horcrux... No, that's not right, the purpose of a Horcrux is to ensure Voldemort's immortality, not to replace him.
Wait a minute...
Kyle suddenly remembered something, it was a few years ago when Death Eaters broke into the Department of Mysteries to steal the Prophecy Orb containing information about the Savior.
They failed, and Voldemort appeared at the Ministry of Magic, engaging in a fierce battle with Dumbledore.
Towards the end of that battle, Voldemort had used a special magic... His consciousness entered Harry's body, and Harry's situation then was exactly like Snape's now.
Could it be that he had just transferred his consciousness into Snape's body?
The more Kyle thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. This might also be the reason why Voldemort didn't want Kyle to take Snape away.
Because he wanted to transfer his consciousness, and a vessel was needed nearby.
Kyle was definitely not a suitable vessel, as it had been proven during the incident at the Ministry of Magic when Voldemort first chose Kyle but later switched to Harry when he realized it wouldn't work.
Rozier was an even worse choice, as an experienced Dark Wizard, no one knew how many tricks she had up her sleeve.
Looking at it this way, the unconscious Snape was the most suitable candidate, and the commotion earlier might have been Voldemort's consciousness fighting against Snape's Mindlock Charm.
Instinctively, Kyle quickly pulled the Dementor out of the box, preparing to have it give Snape a kiss.
But the next moment, Kyle hesitated.
Could consciousness be considered a soul?
If not, what if the Dementor sucked away Snape's soul?
Just as Kyle was hesitating, Voldemort seemed to have overcome the Mindlock Charm, and Snape's eyes turned completely red.
"Are you pleased?" Snape spoke, "You almost killed the great Dark Lord."
"It was you, after all," Kyle sighed.
"So what?"
"Why can't you save us all some time?" Kyle raised his wand, "I can kill you once, and I can kill you again. What's the point of what you're doing?"
"Then let's begin." Voldemort seemed to smile. "I'm curious, will you kill Severus yourself?"
"You can try."
"I've learned something interesting," Voldemort continued, "You seem to get along well with a witch named Prince, and this Prince's only relative is Severus."
"Will you kill him?" Voldemort's smile widened. "Go ahead, I'm watching."
Kyle didn't move.
"You're hesitating, aren't you?"
Snape struggled, trying to break free from the thick branches that entangled him.
"You dare not kill Severus. Pathetic emotions... Ha! Your weakness is the same as Dumbledore's."
"Who says I won't?"
Kyle took a step back, his expressionless face saying, "If someone were to use the Killing Curse on Snape right now, wouldn't it kill you as well?"
"Would you?" Voldemort countered.
"You didn't deny it. It seems that's the case." Kyle narrowed his eyes and took another step back, looking up at Rozier. "I'm not very good at the Killing Curse, so it's up to you..."
"Are you sure?" Rozier raised an eyebrow. "I have to say, you British wizards are quite something. If I heard correctly just now, this person is the only relative of your wife, and you want to kill him?"
"Don't talk nonsense. She's not my wife yet," Kyle corrected.
"Are you just emphasizing this?" Rozier's voice turned cold, and her gaze at Kyle was filled with disdain.
"Cut the chatter. If you don't want to kill Voldemort, then forget what I said."
"Avada Kedavra!" This time, Rozier didn't hesitate and forcefully waved her wand downward.
She didn't care about the relationships between these people; they were all British wizards to her, and she didn't hesitate to strike.
"Damn it, why..."
Voldemort never expected Kyle to be so determined to kill him, even though he possessed Severus's body. The only concession the other party made was not to do it himself.
But weren't Dumbledore and his people the ones who valued emotions the most?
This Kyle... he didn't hesitate at all.
Voldemort was truly afraid now.
Just as Kyle said, if Snape were killed by the Killing Curse at this moment, he would also be killed simultaneously.
Moreover, Voldemort didn't think they were acting, as he could clearly see that it was a genuine Killing Curse.
No, he couldn't die! Just as the Killing Curse was about to fall, Voldemort couldn't hold back any longer. He instantly detached himself from Snape's body and rushed towards Kyle.
Kyle calmly extended his wand.
"It's useless. Even if you use Fiery Flame, you can't kill me in my current state!" Voldemort's voice echoed from all directions, with a hint of hysteria.
It was understandable; anyone would be angry if their plan was foiled by Kyle repeatedly..."
"I will... kill you..." The voice grew closer, as if it were right in front of him.
Kyle's lips curled slightly, and he suddenly closed his eyes tightly, forcefully waving his wand.
Two orange eyes flew out from the dead basilisk's head, spinning in midair as if they were two searchlights.
Then, Kyle heard Voldemort's painful roar.
"Ah... ah..."
"You should... you..."
The voice disappeared after a moment, as if it had never existed.
Voldemort was dead, truly dead this time. Although he didn't die at the hands of his arch-nemesis, Dumbledore, it was still slightly better than dying from his own rebounded curse over a decade ago... at least it wasn't as embarrassing.
"Avada..."
Before Kyle could catch his breath, a green light descended from the sky, but he managed to dodge it just in time.
Kyle opened his eyes and looked up at Rozier in the sky.
"What do you mean by this?"
"Don't you know?" Rozier said coldly, "The basilisk's eyes... You wanted to kill me along with him, didn't you?"
"How could I? I signaled you to close your eyes, but you didn't see it." Kyle explained.
"Heh, you signaled me..." Rozier was amused, "Do you think I'm a fool?"
She was certain that Kyle intended to kill her. If she hadn't known about the basilisk's existence and been more vigilant, she might have actually seen the basilisk's eyes.
Moreover, who would have thought that the dead thing could still have such an effect?
Thinking of this, Rozier became angrier, wishing to kill Kyle for revenge immediately. But soon, she thought of another idea.
"Fine, I believe you didn't do it on purpose." She suddenly said.
Kyle was taken aback by Rozier's sudden change in attitude, but he continued, "That's good. Although we were once enemies, we're at least teammates now. How could I possibly kill you intentionally? That's impossible."
"No need for explanations, I understand." Rozier said, "So I hope you can also understand that I accidentally revealed that you killed Severus Snape."
"Don't talk nonsense.
"Nonsense?" Rozier said mockingly, "Do you think you're off the hook just because you didn't do it yourself?"
"Let me tell you, it's impossible. I really want to see how you'll face that witch later. What was her name again?"
"Conna Prince," Kyle said thoughtfully. "Besides, why would I be afraid of her? Snape isn't even dead."
"Ha, I think you've gone mad," Rozier scoffed. "How could he not die after being hit by the Killing Curse?"
She had seen it clearly just now. Although Voldemort's consciousness had left his body, the Killing Curse had landed squarely on the wizard named Snape.
There was no way she could have mistaken that.
"Is that strange?" Kyle shrugged. "Didn't Harry Potter also survive the Killing Curse? It's perfectly normal."
"That's two different things," Rozier blurted out.
"If you don't believe me, why don't you take a look yourself?" Kyle said with a smile. "Take a good look. Is Snape really dead?"
Rozier couldn't understand why Kyle insisted that the wizard wasn't dead... She had cast the Killing Curse herself; how could she not know if it had worked or not? So she looked up at Snape, intending to shatter Kyle's unrealistic fantasy...
"Oh! What's going on here!"
Rozier's eyes widened in shock, her wrinkles stretching across her face.
The wizard named Snape was indeed still alive.
No, it had to be a trick.
Rozier immediately flew over and rushed towards where Snape was, determined to get to the bottom of it.
Kyle didn't stop her; he just stood by and watched as Rozier's expression kept changing.
"He's actually still alive... This is impossible, how can this be?"
Rozier had never seen such a situation before—someone surviving the Killing Curse.
If she had only heard about it, she could have explained it away by saying that the person had altered the curse or used some special means.
But she had witnessed it all herself, and on top of that, she had cast the Killing Curse herself, so there was no possibility of a replacement curse.
But what was going on here?
Rozier felt her temples throbbing, her head pounding. Instinctively, she wanted to find Grindelwald and report the situation.
But as she turned, she noticed something special.
On Snape's wrist, two silver phoenixes were fluttering, but one of them was gradually fading in color.
By the time she noticed this, the phoenix had completely disappeared.
The remaining phoenix landed back on Snape's wrist, transforming into a silver, inconspicuous ornament.
This was Conna's item, to be precise, the Phoenix Elixir that Niccolo had given to Conna, which he had then altered with alchemy and returned to her.
Its function was simple yet powerful—it could block the Killing Curse twice.
Kyle had noticed that Conna's bracelet was missing at Hogwarts, and he never expected to see it on Snape.
How strange. This item could be removed... Was it because of the blood relation between Snape and Conna? Kyle shook his head and didn't pay it much mind.
He had seen this item earlier, which was why he had instructed Rozier to use the Killing Curse on Snape.
Kyle didn't know how to expel Voldemort's consciousness, so he decided to take a gamble. He bet that Voldemort wouldn't risk his own life, and before the Killing Curse fully landed, he would give up on Snape.
As it turned out, he was right. Even though Voldemort knew he couldn't escape without Snape, he still emerged.
And then Kyle completely eradicated him using the Basilisk's eyes.
Rozier didn't know the true nature of what had happened, but she could tell that the silver phoenix-turned-ornament was extraordinary.
Perhaps it was because of this item that Snape hadn't been killed by the Killing Curse.
Rozier's eyes lit up, and she instinctively wanted to reach out and grab the bracelet-like ornament.
If this item had blocked the Killing Curse, its value would be immeasurable, and Grindelwald would definitely need it now...
"Hey, Ms. Rozier, that's not yours."
A branch extended to block Rozier's path, while another branch reached out and carried away the unconscious Snape. "Just watch from the side; it's a bit much to touch it."
"Stop, put him down!" As she watched Snape being taken away, Rozier instinctively raised her wand, pointing it in the direction of the branch.
"What are you doing, Ms. Rozier?" Kyle, standing opposite her, also raised his wand and asked seriously, "Should I take it that our battle can begin?"
"Of course... not."
After recognizing the person in front of her, Rozier's expression changed rapidly again. She took a deep breath, squinted, and said, "I'm just curious about alchemy and wanted to take a closer look at his item."
"Oh, then I must have misunderstood," Kyle said as he controlled the branch to stuff Snape into a box.
