Chapter 945: Clues and the Five Keys
Chapter 945: Clues and the Five Keys
After Percy was taken away by the two Aurors, the crowd gathered in the hallway gradually dispersed.
However, the recent attack left a significant shadow over the minds of the many guests. The respected Russian Minister, a leader of a Great Magical Nation, had been silently killed in a secluded corner, and the culprit might be the Infamous Dark Wizard Grindelwald.
These two points together were enough to make anyone uneasy, even in their sleep!
If not for Wilkinson's repeated assurances that the North American Congress would increase the security detail to protect everyone, some of the more cowardly Wizard elites might have already bid farewell and fled.
At ten o'clock in the evening, Cornell, exhausted after the interrogation, headed to the Minister of Magic's office to report.
"Did you find any clues?" Wilkinson, seated in the main chair, lightly tapped his fingers on the wooden desk and asked.
Cornell shook his head. After Percy had taken Veritaserum, he had spilled everything, both what he should and shouldn't have said, but unfortunately, they hadn't uncovered any new leads.
"I've also had the Aurors and Goblins responsible for security investigated recently, and they are all clear!" Cornell added.
"That's odd. It seems no one infiltrated the Magical Congress in advance", Wilkinson said slowly. "So, Grindelwald must be hiding among the guests, using some method to avoid the Magic detection at the entrance..."
At this, Wilkinson paused, then looked at Cornell and continued. "Or perhaps there's another possibility..."
Another possibility? Cornell furrowed his brow, not quite understanding Wilkinson's meaning.
"Do you think it might be that someone is deliberately using Grindelwald's name to kill the Russian Minister and take the Key from him?" Wilkinson spoke his hypothesis, word by word.
Hearing this, Cornell was visibly stunned, breaking out in a cold sweat.
Indeed, there was no evidence to prove that Grindelwald was behind the incident. All they knew for certain was that a powerful Wizard had controlled Percy Weasley and used him to kill Minister Igor.
Apart from Grindelwald, there was one other person in his mind who could have done the same!
"Are you suspecting Ivan-Hals? But I probed him before, and he seemed unaware of the Key..." Cornell hesitated, offering his thoughts.
While he had his own suspicions, Cornell did not want—nor was he willing to believe—that this had anything to do with Ivan-Hals.
Because that would represent the worst-case scenario—the Wizarding World could not afford to endure the chaos of two Dark Lords.
"A couple of probes don't mean much. It could just be an act. In any case, we can't rule out this possibility. Don't forget, Percy Weasley is a British Wizard, and Ivan-Hals had many opportunities to cast the Imperius Curse on him", Wilkinson emphasized.
"I understand, President Sir. I will assign more personnel to monitor the situation", Cornell nodded. As the head of this case, he would not let personal emotions interfere, even if the possibility was low, it was necessary to be prepared.
...
Meanwhile, in the private bedroom of the Common Room, a worried Pierce dismissed Delius and the others, then turned to Ivan, speaking up.
"Grindelwald is clearly targeting us; otherwise, he wouldn't have specifically controlled Percy to kill Igor with his own hands. If we can't expose him soon, I fear Grindelwald might continue to kill in the Magical Congress and try to frame us."
"It's not just a possibility, it's a certainty!" Ivan corrected Pierce, harboring no illusions about the matter.
But on the other hand, this was also a great opportunity to deal a significant blow to Grindelwald...
Powerful Wizards like them were almost impossible to capture or kill. Even if they lost in a Duel, they could still escape with ease.
However, the situation was different now. To host the International Confederation of Wizards, the North American Magic Headquarters had tightened security, setting up numerous protective magics both openly and covertly. All forms of Teleportation were rendered ineffective.
The only problem was that Grindelwald possessed a Horcrux. Unless it was on his person, they could only destroy his physical body, not kill him outright.
Ivan's calmness reassured the anxious Pierce, who quickly shook off the shadow cast by Grindelwald.
As Ivan had said, while Grindelwald had caused them considerable trouble, he had also placed himself in a dangerous position. Once they found his weak point, the tables would turn.
"What should we do next?" Pierce collected his emotions and asked.
"Set a trap and lure the snake out of its hole..." Ivan explained briefly, pausing before continuing. "If I'm not mistaken, you should have a key as well, right?"
Pierce nodded and immediately pulled out a small, lifelike Silver Raven from his sleeve, no larger than half a palm.
"This is the key?" Ivan took the Raven, surprised. He had imagined what such a mysterious key might look like, but the reality exceeded his expectations.
What surprised Ivan even more was that, with his current Alchemy knowledge, he couldn't figure out how it worked.
It truly was a testament to the combined wisdom of over a hundred Alchemical Masters.
Cracking it wouldn't be easy.
"Let me keep this for now." Ivan examined the Silver Raven for a while before tucking it into his Wizard Robes.
This way, unless Grindelwald defeated him, it would be impossible to gather all the keys.
Pierce, of course, had no objections. In fact, he was more than willing. With Grindelwald as a major threat, this key was a hot potato, and whoever held it would be the next target of Grindelwald's attacks.
After securing the key, Ivan and Pierce discussed their next steps. They talked well into the night before Pierce formally took his leave and left the bedroom.
Once the door closed, Ivan pondered and took out the Resurrection Stone again. If Cornell and the others were there, they would be astonished to see that Igor, though dead, had appeared in the bedroom in another form...
