Chapter 943: Alliance in the Dark
Chapter 943: Alliance in the Dark
"Master Malik."
Reidou entered and respectfully bowed.
"I've told you countless times, there's no need for such formality."
Malik, seated on the sofa, waved his hand impatiently.
"The Pharaoh has returned to the underworld, and the Three Phantom Gods have vanished from this world. Our mission as Tombkeepers has long been fulfilled, and neither of us is bound by the chains of the past anymore.
From now on, we are just brothers, and I am no longer the master you need to serve."
This wasn't the first time Malik had said something similar, but Reidou had grown up within the Tombkeeper clan and had been Malik's loyal servant for most of his life. Such a long-standing habit was not something he could easily adapt to change.
"Forget it," Malik said. "Did you meet that person?"
"Yes," Reidou replied.
"Did you lose?"
"I was utterly defeated," Reidou admitted.
Malik nodded. "After all, he's a man who has earned the title of King. It would be strange if he didn't have the strength to match."
However, Malik was not one to be intimidated by the title of Duel King. He himself had once stood at the pinnacle, wielding the Supreme Phantom God and challenging the strongest duelist of his time.
Although his ultimate outcome was not as desired, he didn't believe it meant he was cast out from the ranks of the pinnacle duelists. He always thought that with a bit of luck, he could have defeated the Pharaoh, and at the very least, Seto Kaiba.
Nowadays, Malik no longer held the same desire for revenge, nor did he care for the empty titles of Duel King or World Champion. That was why he hadn't bothered to compete for those titles. He hadn't inquired about the current top duelists either.
But now, seeing his trusted subordinate clash with the current Duel King had piqued his interest. He continued, "Then, what strategy did he use to break through your trap blockade? Was it an overwhelming rush? Did his incredibly fast summoning and attacking speed outpace your trap deployment? Or did he summon a powerful ace monster with strong resistance? Or did he focus on a strong offensive by targeting the backfield destruction?"
Reidou shook his head to each of Malik's suggestions.
"No," Reidou said somberly, "it wasn't that he broke through my defenses, but rather, I couldn't break through his."
Malik: "?"
"He started with Artificial Human Soga and Palace Announcement," Reidou explained. "His Soga kept reviving, no matter how many times I destroyed it, and it even evolved into its advanced form.
My entire deck was almost useless, and I couldn't overcome it."
Malik: "..."
After a moment of contemplation, Malik spoke.
"Hmm, Soga, that's unfortunate. You've had a tough time, it seems this Duel King does have some tricks up his sleeve."
At that moment, a crisp female voice came from behind them. "But this could be a good thing for us, right?"
The two turned to see Malik's sister, Isis, standing at the door.
"Sister," Malik stood up.
"The Demon Gods are awakening, and the stronger the forces we can gather, the better," Isis said.
Malik nodded. "True. Let's hope he can handle it."
After a brief pause, Malik sighed, "It's been years since I last saw the first Duel King, Seto Kaiba, after our battle. If it were Yuugi Mutou, the one who personally sent the Pharaoh off in the Battle Rite..."
Isis shook her head. "So many years have passed, and this world cannot rely on him forever.
"That's true."
Malik leaned back into the sofa, lost in thought.
Elsewhere, in a place of darkness, it was as if a realm filled with despair. Thick, dark clouds swirled like an ocean, and within this cloud sea, there seemed to be vague, enormous dark outlines hidden.
In the darkness, one of the silhouettes spoke.
"You failed?"
After a few seconds of silence, another silhouette slowly emerged from below the cloud sea. Its shape was long, with a twisted tail and wide wings, resembling the "Demon God Eraser" that had just fought with You Xuan.
"I was careless."
The Eraser spoke in a deep, muffled voice.
The third shadow hummed, "It's not the Pharaoh or the High Priest. It's just an ordinary human. Even if it's the weakest among us, you've really disgraced yourself."
The Eraser was slightly dissatisfied, stiffening his neck. "That kid used a dirty trick! I wasn't prepared. Besides, the human host was too weak. I could only attach to that weakling and act indirectly, which was too restrictive. If I could take action myself, a mere human like this wouldn't even be qualified..."

"Enough."
The first shadow interrupted, and the Eraser immediately stopped talking, afraid to speak further. Although it was a Demon God, it seemed to be quite afraid of the pressure from this companion.
The first shadow spoke, "It all comes down to this problem. If not for that detestable Pharaoh and his equally annoying human companions, why would we be trapped in such a situation? If we weren't bound by the seal and could be completely released, who in this world today could stand against us in a duel?"
As the three Demon Gods corresponding to the Phantom Gods, in their eyes, there were only the Pharaoh and the High Priests. Now that the Pharaoh was gone, the only remaining threat in this world was the reincarnation of the High Priests.
Among the reincarnated High Priests, the most dazzling was undoubtedly High Priest Seto, the current Seto Kaiba. This person should have been a threat, but the Demon Gods had encountered him once during their last appearance, easily defeating Seto Kaiba while possessing the Night Traveler. Therefore, they didn't consider him a significant concern anymore.
The biggest problem was that they currently lacked a shell that could act freely and exert enough power.
At this moment, a new force emerged in this dark world. A figure rose from the pitch-black cloud sea, much smaller than the three silhouettes. It appeared to be merely human-sized.
This seemingly insignificant human faced the three deities with a calm and composed demeanor.
He was a man dressed in black leather, with short hair and a square face with sharp features as if carved by a knife. He wore deep black sunglasses, and a smile that seemed to exude confidence adorned his face.
"Well then, since the Demon Gods have many inconveniences, it just so happens that we have an abundance of shells at our disposal for action.
So, regarding our previous proposal, what do the Demon Gods think?"
The man pushed up his sunglasses and smiled lightly.
"If we become the eyes and ears for the Demon Gods, many things might become much easier, don't you think?"
The three Demon Gods fell silent for a moment.
After a while, the first black shadow spoke slowly.
"Say it again, your conditions."
