Chapter 94: Don't Be Afraid, It's a Ghost
Chapter 94: Don't Be Afraid, It's a Ghost
"Is it taken care of?"
You Xuan took the deck that Silence handed him and slipped it into an empty card box hanging on the inside of his shirt.
When he went out, he usually carried several card boxes with different decks. One box was for SIDE, and he would also set aside a few extra slots specifically for storing spoils of victory.
Mizawa usually carried six card boxes on his chest, while Judai tended to carry two. Generally speaking, including the deck in their Duel Disks, they would have at least nine decks with them when they went out—and that was without a backpack.
You Xuan took the deck and browsed through it briefly.
After all, this duelist called Titan was just a fraud who deceived others with flashy displays. In the anime, he didn't even duel properly; he just sneaked up behind Asuka and knocked her out, then kidnapped her to force Judai into a duel.
Even during the duel, he didn't take it seriously and relied on hypnosis to manipulate his opponent. As soon as Judai saw through his tricks, he immediately gave up and tried to run away.
With neither dueling ethics nor real skill, there was no need to uphold any sense of honor when dealing with such a second-rate duelist. In this case, a direct attack from a spirit would suffice.
This was called confiscating the tools of the crime.
As expected, the duelist called Titan used a Demon deck. Although it was at least a themed series, there weren't any particularly powerful cards in You Xuan's opinion.
However, even if he couldn't use them, selling them for a good price wouldn't be bad.
You Xuan had already sold quite a few of the extra cards from the decks he had picked up earlier. He found that just by collecting and selling cards, he could earn a decent income. So far, the extra cards and Duel Disks he had acquired were enough to sustain him for quite some time.
"Good work, well done."
You Xuan smiled and ruffled Silence's head.
Silence, who had been pouting unhappily, suddenly froze, staring dumbfounded as his master gave him a head pat. His social anxiety seemed to act up again, and his cheeks flushed slightly.
In an instant, he transformed into a beam of white light and disappeared into the card box.
You Xuan looked at his palm, which was still hanging in midair, and reflected on his actions.
Why did Silence react as if he was a little repulsed?
Judai's voice echoed from the corridor outside, "There's nothing here either. You Xuan, did you find anything on your side... Hey!"
As he walked in, he seemed to have just caught a glimpse of that white, graceful figure disappearing into You Xuan's card box. He blinked a couple of times and rubbed his eyes vigorously.
"Am I seeing things? You Xuan, that's..."
Winged Chestnut, flapping its tiny wings, flew over to Judai's side. "Kuri kuri~!"
"Ah, so it's like that! I wasn't mistaken after all!" Judai exclaimed with delight. "You also have a spirit, right?"
Winged Chestnut nodded vigorously—even though its entire small body looked like a head, so the nodding motion made it seem like it was just bouncing up and down as it flapped its wings: "Kuri! Kuri kuri~!"
Judai nodded in response, "Yeah, I know, partner."
You Xuan: "."
Actually, he had always been curious. How exactly did they understand what Chestnut was saying? To him, every syllable sounded exactly the same.
Judai seemed thrilled to have encountered a fellow spirit user and eagerly pulled him along. "Ever since I was little, I would hear strange voices.
At first, it would happen when I dreamed at night. I always felt like someone was calling my name. Then, I would often get up in the middle of the night to check on my deck."
"And then a spirit appeared?"
"No, nothing happened." Judai scratched his head sheepishly. "Haha, I guess it's not that easy to meet a spirit. After that, I didn't hear the voices of spirits for a long time.
But recently, I've started hearing them again."
He turned to look at Winged Chestnut. The tiny Chestnut happily narrowed its eyes and rubbed its head affectionately against Judai's face. "Kuri kuri~!"
You Xuan understood the situation.
Judai's first spirit should have been Yubel, a spirit who had reincarnated and vowed to protect Judai forever.
But the overly protective Yu-jo had turned all of Judai's playmates who won against him into vegetative states. As a result, she was deemed a cursed card and sent into space by KaibaCorp with a rocket.
After that, Judai was tormented by nightmares related to Yubel, so his parents decided to erase his memories of her. And thus, Yu-jo was completely forgotten.
"Your spirit seems really powerful, You Xuan!" Judai exclaimed excitedly. "Can you call it out for me to see?"
"Erm, about that..." You Xuan hesitated, "She's a bit shy."
Judai: "?"
Just then, a cry of horror rang out from a room not too far away: "Ahhh!"
Judai was startled. "That's Hayato and Sho!"
He rushed out and ran down the corridor to the room.
"What's going on?"
"There...there was something! Something just passed by!" Sho stammered, "There's definitely something wrong with this place!"
You Xuan, who was walking a little slower, caught a glimpse of a strange, green, tiny creature flying swiftly down the corridor and disappearing behind a door.
Moreover, he felt like he had seen this creature before.
Judai frowned in confusion. "I didn't see anything. Are you guys imagining things?"
"Absolutely not! Both Hayato and I saw it!" Sho shouted.
You Xuan: "Don't be afraid, it's just a ghost."
Everyone: "???"
You didn't think there was anything wrong with that statement?
But You Xuan wasn't joking. He remembered that it was a Vanillacus monster card. In his previous life, he hadn't even seen this rare and obscure monster, only coming across it when he was cheating during the Duel Academy exams.
[Ghost, 2-star, ATK: 600, DEF: 800]
Description: A vengeful spirit formed by the lingering souls of the deceased who could not find peace in the afterlife. A genuine ghost.
However, this is the world of Duel Monsters, and even ghosts cannot escape the fate of becoming cards. So, while it may sound formidable as a vengeful spirit, it's just a 600 ATK Vanillacus, easily dispatched by either Great Creation or Silence.
As expected, there's nothing to fear from ghosts in the world of Duel Monsters.
But what concerned You Xuan was why a monster spirit would suddenly spawn in this dilapidated dormitory?
"Kuri!"
Winged Chestnut took flight, seemingly urging its owner to follow.
"Winged Chestnut, wait!"
Judai hurried after it, with the others trailing behind.
They followed Chestnut down the corridor and into an old, eerie room.
On the floor was an unknown magic circle, seemingly used for rituals. The walls were engraved with complex texts and patterns, among which were depictions of certain Millennial Items that no longer existed in this world.
Judai approached one of the stone slabs and gently brushed away the dust that had accumulated on it.
"Millennial Item... Did someone research the Dark Games here?"
"Kuri!"
Winged Chestnut floated to his side, its tone turning serious.
At that moment, Chaos Soldier abruptly appeared beside You Xuan and warned in a low voice, "Be careful. There's something odd about the spatial energy in this place."
Before he finished speaking, the magic circle on the floor suddenly lit up.
A burst of intense light engulfed both You Xuan and Judai, and they felt themselves being pulled away from the ground as if they were falling into another world.
You Xuan had experienced something like this before.
It was just like when he accidentally fell into the Spirit World the last time.
