Chapter 94: Another Peaceful and Tranquil Day in Diagon Alley
Chapter 94: Another Peaceful and Tranquil Day in Diagon Alley
"Hey, that's rough", Ivan muttered.
Standing at a high vantage point, he could see an old male wizard in tattered wizard robes grumbling as he emerged from a house with a hole in its wall. From the way his lips moved, it seemed he was complaining about his bad luck.
After all, with so many houses around, why did it have to be his?
The recovery ability of werewolves was truly astonishing. During the time he had been knocked to the ground, his wounds had already started to heal.
The male wizard clearly noticed this and grew even more impatient. black mist began to spread from his wand, and he muttered an unknown, bizarre Spell.
The black mist formed the shape of a human face, its mouth opening and closing, emitting a piercing screech as it charged towards the werewolf on the ground.
At that moment, the red brick wall behind them was knocked down by a powerful force. Another, larger werewolf with silver fur burst into the battle, violently throwing the smaller, thinner werewolf to the side. However, the larger werewolf's arm was corroded by the black mist.
The silver fur on his arm was corroded away, leaving a pitted, raw surface with no signs of healing. The werewolf let out an angry roar, then bit the smaller werewolf and dragged him away.
The male wizard's face was so dark it could have dripped water, but he made no move to pursue. Instead, he waved his wand and cast a repair Spell, restoring everything to its pre-battle state.
Despite the commotion, the rest of Diagon Alley remained quiet. No one came out to stop or investigate.
To them, Diagon Alley had just spent another peaceful and tranquil day.
At least there wouldn't be a couple of bodies lying on the street tomorrow.
Ivan, who had watched the entire battle, looked grim. The strength of both sides had exceeded his expectations. If he had been caught in that fight, he would have had to use his achievement points to enter Experience Card Mode to have any chance of escaping.
But he only had a thousand achievement points, and there was no way to replenish them. Each use would mean one less point.
He needed to find a way to quickly upgrade his Patronus Charm to level four, Ivan thought urgently.
And he was also sorely lacking in high-damage Spells.
[Ding, first year ended, detected host safely returned, system updating]
Ivan was lying in bed, planning how to improve his strength during the summer, when the long-absent system notification sounded.
system update?
Ivan immediately got out of bed and started checking the update details in his mind. However, the system was as cold and distant as ever, not providing even a hint about the update, let alone when it would be completed.
The only thing that made Ivan feel a bit safer was that the system's functions would not be disabled during the update. This meant he could still use achievement points to boost his combat power in emergencies.
The next morning, Ivan, who hadn't slept well, still woke up on time according to his biological clock. After brushing his teeth and washing his face by memory, he sat down at the dining table, ready to eat with his knife and fork.
However, after waiting for over half an hour, there was still no sign of Aisha. If Ivan knew how to operate the magic Kitchen, he would have made something himself.
It wasn't until nearly nine o'clock that Aisha, wearing a bathrobe, finally emerged from her room, yawning.
"Sit tight, I'll make breakfast", Aisha said, then entered the Kitchen. A few minutes later, she emerged with a plate.
Breakfast was simple: a few sandwiches and two bowls of oatmeal. The taste was decent, just a notch below what the house-elves at Hogwarts prepared.
"Mom, what was going on with those werewolves last night?" Ivan asked, his voice slightly stiff. Fortunately, Aisha didn't seem to notice the slight difference in his address.
"You heard that?" Aisha gave Ivan a sidelong glance, then tapped his head with her spoon. "Next time, go to bed earlier!"
Ivan was rather speechless. With such a loud howl, he would have to be a very deep sleeper to not be disturbed.
Aisha then explained.
"Those werewolves suddenly appeared in Knockturn Alley two months ago. They might have been driven out from somewhere else and ended up here. They’ve been pretty low-key and haven’t caused much trouble, so no one has bothered to deal with them."
"I wonder why they went out of control yesterday?" Aisha said, a hint of confusion in her voice, but she didn’t dwell on it too much.
Now that this incident has happened, those werewolves are probably going to have a hard time staying in Knockturn Alley.
Ivan didn’t press the matter further. After satisfying his curiosity, he quickly shifted the conversation to the Trace, explaining his plan to practice magic during the summer.
"This shouldn’t be a problem. Give me your Wand, and I’ll handle it for you. It might take a week or even longer", Aisha said, clearly pleased with Ivan’s dedication to learning.
"Alright." Ivan handed over his Wand.
Since Aisha had a solution, that was the best outcome.
However, as soon as the Wand left his hand, Ivan felt a sense of emptiness and insecurity. What was he going to do for the next few days?
Aisha thought for a moment, then put down her knife and fork and walked into the Basement. When she returned, she was holding a wooden box.
"For the next few days, you can use this Wand. See if it works for you", Aisha said as she opened the box and took out the Wand, handing it to Ivan.
Ivan curiously took it and tried channeling his magic through it. The process was smooth, and with a wave, the sandwiches and porridge on the table floated up.
At the same time, Ivan glanced at the new information that appeared in the system panel.
[Magic Item: Wand (hawthorn wood, dragon heartstring, twelve inches long)
Magic: Moderate
compatibility: 89%
"This has an 89% compatibility. My previous Wand must have been really unsuitable", Ivan thought to himself with a silent complaint.
"How is it? Does it feel right?" Aisha asked.
"It feels very natural", Ivan nodded.
"I knew it would fit you", Aisha said, unsurprised, and put away the empty box.
"Did you make this Wand, Mom?" Ivan asked, curious about the strange characters inscribed on the Wand. He remembered that other Wands didn’t have such markings.
"Of course not. Making a Wand is a highly advanced skill. I just did some modifications to this one", Aisha shook her head.
(PS: Here, I’ll explain a few points, sharing my personal views. First, the Trace is applied to the Wand, which is why, in the second year, even though Dobby was the one casting the Spell, the Ministry of Magic believed it was Harry. When Harry used magic to inflate his aunt without his Wand, the Ministry received the information because the inflated aunt was seen by many people, causing a significant impact. The Ministry sent someone to handle it, and Fudge mentioned this to Harry when they met, but with Sirius’s escape from Azkaban, Fudge had no time to deal with such minor issues, so Harry wasn’t punished.
The second point is about underage magic outside school. In the original story, underage Wizards are not allowed to use magic outside school during holidays (the Ministry doesn’t monitor this before they start school, and using magic in Hogsmeade during school breaks doesn’t count). The movies made some changes to improve the audience experience, which is why Hermione used a Spell to fix Harry’s glasses and Harry practiced the Lumos Spell at home, leading to some inconsistencies.)
