Chapter 939: I'll See This Through to the End!
Chapter 939: I’ll See This Through to the End!
Luo’s words left everyone stunned.
Nami waved her hand dismissively, speaking with helplessness, “It’s not just something in the sky—there are things on the ground too! Zeus is watching from above, and those soul entities Big Mom created nearby seem to be probing around for something.”
She covered her face with both hands, eyes widening in sudden fear. “Wait! Don’t tell me they’re searching for us?!”
“That’s not it,” Robin interjected calmly. “To them, we’re not even worth their attention.”
Luo added grimly, “Judging from the last time Kaido and Big Mom combined attacks against something—this might be related to that overwhelming might.”
At the memory, Luo shuddered. Just days ago, those two titans had unleashed a technique called “Bakegami no Hakaishin.” The raw power of that strike had been terrifying.
If facing Kaido alone gave them a sliver of hope, adding Big Mom into the mix left nothing but despair.
“And what I said about something in the sky—why don’t you all go check it out yourselves!”
With a sharp motion, Luo flung open the window, revealing the warped, nearly inverted skyline beyond. “See? Something’s coming down!”
In the heavens, an indistinct, continent-sized mass slowly descended, as if a colossal fragment of land had torn free from the sky itself.
“What in the—”
Zoro shot to his feet, his lone eye widening as he instinctively gripped the hilt of his sword. “This Killing Intent is suffocating… yet distant. What’s going on?!”
“Th-This isn’t a continent falling from the sky, is it?!” Nami gasped, her jaw slack with disbelief.
“No!” Robin’s voice turned grave. “We’ve seen this before!”
Her words jolted everyone except Luo. Memories surged back—their frantic escape from the Marine Base at Shabondy, the moment they’d narrowly avoided being crushed by a titanic stone hand materializing from the heavens. Though the attack had never landed, its impact lingered vividly in their minds.
Few things had left such a profound impression: Big Mom’s maddened pursuit, Kaido’s draconic transformation, and now—this sky-splitting stone hand, vast enough to blot out the heavens.
“You don’t think…” Nami stammered. “Could the Navy be here?!”
“Whether they are or not,” Robin said, “this isn’t an ally of Kaido’s. We might just have a chance.”
---
Above the sky, the air grew heavier as the descending continent drew closer, its oppressive pressure rippling through the atmosphere. Below it, a hooded figure drifted in midair, their cloak whipping wildly as the gale surged past.
After two days of flight, Kuro had finally reached Wano Country, following the pointer’s direction. He had no time to think about food—there were matters of utmost urgency.
His Observation Haki couldn’t yet pierce Wano’s borders—the land was simply too vast to fully scan. Gramps remained undetected.
In that case, time for a different approach—to make Gramps notice him instead!
Kuro’s gaze swept over Wano Country’s sprawling expanse, soon locking onto two islands in the Inland Sea: one large, one small. The smaller island’s soil was dark, its shape unmistakably resembling a bull’s skull.
“That’s Oni’s Island?”
Kaido’s stronghold.
Kuro chose not to blanket the entire nation with pressure—there were too many civilians beyond pirates. But Oni’s Island? As Kaido’s base, only pirates would be stationed there.
Fingers splayed, he flicked his hand downward. The continent above him shrank, condensing into a spiral stone pillar that speared downward like a colossal club.
Boom!
A thunderous bolt of lightning streaked toward him. Kuro barely glanced sideways, slashing his Yokai Blade downward. The lightning deflected, redirecting into Oni’s Island with a deafening explosion.
No sooner had the thunder faded than a flurry of razor-sharp wind blades sliced through the sky. Kuro frowned, raising his Yokai Blade again in a swift upward arc. The wind blades shattered on contact.
“Kuro! What do you think you’re doing?!”
Two titanic figures emerged in the distance.
An old woman perched atop black clouds, one hand crackling with an encapsulated fireball, the other gripping a massive blade with a face etched into its steel.
Beside her, a colossal Azure Dragon coiled through the air, its four clawed feet treading on clouds as it soared forward.
Kaido! Big Mom!
Kuro’s crimson eyes narrowed, his fingers continuing their work without pause.
“Big Mom, something’s off!” Kaido barked, scrutinizing Kuro’s crimson gaze. “This brat—”
“Augh!” Charlotte Big Mom’s expression darkened, sensing the anomaly. “Kaido, watch out! That blade of his—it’s strange too!”
“What do I think I’m doing?” Kuro’s voice carried cold fury as he glared at them. “We’ve never openly torn apart our facades before… yet now, what are you two doing? Wounding Gramps was one thing, but judging by your moves, you intend to trap him here?!”
Though his Observation Haki couldn’t fully encompass Wano Country’s vast skies, Kuro had sensed the ominous black clouds veiling the heavens and the soul entities radiating Big Mom’s aura below.
What else could this be but a hunt?
Daring to trap an Admiral here?
On what grounds?!
“Alliances, becoming the Pirate King, chasing One Piece—none of it concerns me. You chase your One Piece, I’ll chase my Navy duties. If we must clash, we’ll clash openly. But if you’re choosing to break our facade early—”
Kuro’s hand slammed downward.
“Then this old man will see it through to the end!”
The condensed continent, now a titanic stone pillar, shot toward Oni’s Island like a celestial mace.
“You damn brat!!”
Kaido’s eyes constricted. His dragon body swelled, unleashing a torrent of searing flame. “Destruction Heat Breath!!”
Kuro didn’t even turn. The blazing pillar struck the stone column head-on, carving a gaping hole through it. But the pillar’s sheer size rendered the attack futile—the void was instantly mended by Kuro’s ability, the stone column roaring downward unabated.
This level of power wasn’t nearly enough to destroy his treasured collection!
And with the time they’d already wasted arriving here, they lacked the moment needed to dismantle his technique entirely.
“Kuro! Stop!!” Kaido roared.
Boom!!
The stone pillar struck Oni’s Island like a divine punishment, crushing the island’s horn-like peak before grinding the entire skull-shaped landmass into dust. The pillar plunged deeper, sinking the island’s foundations into the sea.
Between sky and ocean, only a single, titanic pillar remained—connecting heaven and sea like an unyielding monument.
