Chapter 937: "Father" – A Word Full of Charm
Chapter 937: "Father" – A Word Full of Charm
Whitebeard?
Shanks?
Or the rising Blackbeard?
No—there’s never been any record of them clashing. The balance among the Four Emperors has always held firm. As subordinates who had followed Kaido for quite some time, they knew the movements of recent years well.
Except for that one brief confrontation between Kaido’s officer and Shanks two years ago, there had been nothing else. But even that encounter had ended in a stalemate with just a few exchanged blows. Kaido’s officer hadn’t sustained any injuries.
“Kuro?”
At this moment, outside the room, a man clad in black uniform, his back adorned with jet-black wings spanning wide, stood murmuring. A flame-shaped mask covered his face, goggles shielding his eyes, and a sword hung from his waist. Wrapped entirely in protective gear, only his piercing eyes remained exposed as he muttered:
“That man seems to be the one who escorted Donquixote Doflamingo’s group back then—Kaido’s officer, Jack the Disaster. He vanished without a trace after that incident. He must’ve died.”
“Dead men stay dead, Jin,” Kaido waved dismissively. “Failure is understandable—everyone stumbles. Surviving the Grand Line means enduring countless hardships. But if he’s truly dead, there’s nothing to be done. Jack the Disaster must’ve lacked strength. Otherwise, he’d still be standing before me. Now, the Six Crimson Stars are restless, eager to become ‘Senior Commanders.’ Let them prove themselves!”
“Mamamama! Indeed, the Grand Line is merciless,” Charlotte·Big Mom raised her cup for a sip, then turned to Jin. “Say, won’t you reconsider my earlier offer? Your race is so rare. Why not join my Totto Land? I’ll grant you the position of ‘Yonko’ among my ‘Triad Star Generals’!”
Totto Land had once been ruled by three Yonko. But after Snug was defeated by Urouge from the Worst Generation, Charlotte·Big Mom felt humiliated and stripped Snug of his title.
The man with jet-black wings cast a cold glance at Charlotte·Big Mom. “I serve only Kaido.”
“Mamamama, what a shame!” Charlotte·Big Mom laughed heartily.
‘Scorching Disaster’ Jin—
One of the three legendary Disaster Commanders in the Beast King Pirates. Previously, when Charlotte·Big Mom arrived, he’d once kicked her ship into pieces. But she’d simply boarded a dark cloud, bypassing him entirely, leaving Jin powerless to stop her.
Thankfully, they were now allies. Otherwise, this would’ve sparked an all-out war.
“Hmm…”
Kaido pondered, then said, “At the alliance celebration, let the Six Crimson Stars perform a demonstration. A little amusement before selecting the new ‘Senior Commander’!”
“As you wish, Kaido,” Jin nodded, then added, “Quinn mentioned wanting to kill one of the Six Crimson Stars and offer the position to the invaders if they surrender.”
“Horo horo horo! Let him act as he pleases. He knows what to do.”
Jin nodded, falling silent.
Though Jack the Disaster, who used to call them ‘big brothers’ constantly, was gone, the Three Top Commanders couldn’t be replaced directly. The Six Crimson Stars’ strength might not be inferior. In time, they’d form a new ‘Triad Calamities.’
Triad Calamities—Scorching Disaster Jin, Plague Quinn, and Jack the Disaster. These were their epithets, bestowed by outsiders. The names echoed the playing card hierarchy: King, Queen, and Jack, with Jin as the latter.
Within the Beast King Pirates, their official title was ‘Three Top Commanders.’ Below them stood the ‘True Combatants,’ with the six strongest among them known as the ‘Six Crimson Stars.’ This title originated from a traditional Wano theatrical performance, forming the stable hierarchy of the Beast King Pirates.
Though called the Beast King Pirates, Kaido welcomed strength over weakness. Anyone with sufficient power could ascend to ‘True Combatant.’
Former members like Scratchmen Apoo and newer recruits like Hawkins both held the rank of ‘True Combatant.’
Most ‘True Combatants’ were Artificial Devil Fruit users, promoted due to their strength and leadership. Beneath them were ordinary Artificial Devil Fruit recipients, the failed ‘Laughers,’ and even those unworthy to receive any Devil Fruit—the ‘Waiters.’
Of course, these were mere grunts.
Beyond them existed the Ancient Giants, survivors of the Demon Tribe known as the ‘Numbered Ones.’ These stood separate, directly under Kaido’s command, an entirely different system.
In the Beast King Pirates, aside from the Numbered Ones—Kaido’s rowdy kin—the rest of the ranks were earned through strength. Even the position of ‘Senior Commander’ could be contested, with Kaido’s approval.
Now, Jack the Disaster had vanished without a trace, likely dead. Half a year without news left only death as an explanation.
The Six Crimson Stars, however, eyed the ‘Senior Commander’ position hungrily. All they needed was Kaido’s nod to begin their ruthless struggle.
“Mamamama, let’s discuss this at the celebration,” Charlotte·Big Mom chuckled, turning to Kaido. “By the way, your daughter Yamato’s still locked up?”
Kaido’s expression darkened. “She still refuses that old fool’s proposal. Unforgivable! She’s the old man’s own daughter! Why side with that cursed Oden? Both aimed to be Shogun—what’s the difference? She rants about opening the country day and night, even fighting the old man over it. And she ate that Devil Fruit the old man schemed so hard to obtain—but not as he wished. She just grabbed it out of hunger!”
“Oh? The legendary Devil Fruit? I’ve heard you fought hard to claim it. Wano Country truly teems with Mythical Beasts’ Devil Fruits, Mamamama! But say, aren’t you rather indulgent toward Yamato? I heard she claims to be a man now, idolizing Oden. And you allowed it?!”
Charlotte·Big Mom burst into laughter.
Kaido said nothing, raising his cup to drain it in one gulp.
Jin remained silent too, but his faintly helpless gaze revealed the truth.
This wasn’t mere indulgence.
Yamato didn’t just claim manhood—she’d forced the entire Beast King Pirates to address her as ‘Young Master Yamato,’ not ‘Miss Yamato.’
Though Kaido revered violence and cared little for formalities, even he had no choice but to comply with Yamato’s demands.
Indeed, the word “father” holds immense charm.
