Chapter 936: World Congress of Wizards
Chapter 936: World Congress of Wizards
"Joint Conference will be held at the North American Congress of Magic, scheduled for two weeks from now, in the morning... President Sir specifically instructed me to invite you to attend", Cornell said, pausing for a moment before adding, "Ivan, remember to remind Minister Pierce of Britain to bring the Key when he comes to the meeting."
"Key? What Key?" Ivan asked curiously.
"I can't disclose the specifics, but you can ask Minister Pierce yourself. He should know more about it", Cornell replied thoughtfully.
"Alright, I understand. I'll definitely be there on time in two weeks", Ivan nodded, not wanting to put Cornell in an awkward position.
They exchanged a few more pleasantries before Cornell hurriedly took his leave. As the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement in North America, he had far too many responsibilities to handle. If not for Ivan Hals' crucial stance, he wouldn't have made the special trip just to deliver the message.
After Cornell left, Ivan sat alone in his chair, reflecting on the scenes he had seen in his memories, particularly Grindelwald's prophecy.
He was over eighty percent certain that the visions of the future were real, but the words Grindelwald spoke were not necessarily to be trusted...
Ivan preferred to believe that this future would be one he created himself after defeating Grindelwald.
...
Over the next few days, Ivan continued to receive intelligence from Britain and North America while carrying on with his teaching duties.
Although the Wizarding World's situation had become increasingly complex, with frequent reports of Wizards attacking Muggles, Britain, under the strong control of the Ministry of Magic, had become the only safe haven in all of Europe.
The students at Hogwarts treated the frequent incidents as mere topics of conversation, and the shadow cast by last year's attacks had gradually faded away in the daily routine of learning and playing.
However, Ivan understood just how dire the current situation was. The longer it dragged on, the more powerful and difficult to handle Grindelwald's forces would become.
The two weeks passed in a flash. Since the meeting was scheduled for Monday morning, Ivan had to ask Deputy Headmistress Mcgonagall for a few days off and request that she take over his classes.
"Are you leaving Hogwarts tomorrow? Why? Has something happened?" On a weekend morning in the Great Hall, Hermione, after hearing Ivan's travel plans, asked with concern.
Last time Ivan went all the way to France, he ended up encountering Grindelwald, and they had a fierce battle.
Although Ivan had been casual about it when he returned, Hermione, the young witch, had noticed his relentless search through the Forbidden Books in the library over the past few months.
"Relax, it's just a small meeting. I'll be back in a day... well, I mean, at most two or three days", Ivan put down his copy of "Analysis of Defensive Magic" and shrugged helplessly. He didn't always run into trouble every time he went out.
"Meeting..." Hermione's mind raced, and she suddenly remembered something. She pulled out a newspaper from her robes and pointed to the front-page headline. "You don't mean the World Congress of Wizards mentioned in the Daily Prophet, do you?"
"How is that possible?" Ron interrupted Ivan before he could even speak. "Father told me that it's the highest-level Wizards Meeting in the entire Wizarding World, and only the leaders of the Ministries of Magic from various countries are eligible to receive invitations..."
Before Ron could finish, a grayish-white owl swooped in from the entrance hall, delivering a letter with the emblem of the International Confederation of Wizards right to Ivan.
"Remember to keep it a secret!" Ivan casually reminded them before tearing open the envelope.
Harry and Ron, both incredibly curious, immediately leaned in, while Hermione lowered her voice to read aloud:
"Dear Sir Ivan Hals,
The 79th World Congress of Wizards will be held on November 18th at the North American Congress of Magic. We sincerely invite you to attend this meeting to discuss the future of the Wizarding World..."
Hermione's voice trailed off, her eyes wide with shock. Ron, even more startled, blurted out, "No way, they really invited you?"
"If the name on this invitation isn't wrong, then I suppose it is", Ivan said, tucking the envelope away.
"But... but... how..." Ron stammered, still struggling to believe it.
Unlike Harry and Hermione, who came from Muggle families and had limited knowledge of the Wizarding World, Ron was well aware of the significance of the World Congress of Wizards. It was a gathering of the most influential figures from around the globe, including leaders and the most distinguished individuals from each Aura.
Ron had even heard from George and Fred in their letters that Percy Weasley had dreamed of accompanying Minister Pierce to the World Congress of Wizards to broaden his horizons. Percy had spent days begging people to help him, wearing his lips thin, and finally managed to secure a position as a low-level assistant.
Even so, Percy was over the moon, boasting about it to everyone he met, and the family had celebrated the occasion.
Now, Ivan had received a personal invitation...
"Who knows? It's just a meeting, and perhaps I'm being brought along by Minister Pierce", Ivan replied, not wanting to elaborate further. After all, if he started explaining, there would be no end to it.
In fact, if it weren't for the threat posed by Grindelwald, Ivan wouldn't have considered attending such a tedious political meeting. According to Pierce, sometimes discussing a single important issue could take days of endless debate, and it was common for nothing to be resolved by the end of the conference.
Ivan hoped this time would be different and that it wouldn't be a waste of his time.
However, one thing puzzled Ivan: why hadn't North America chosen to hold a secret meeting instead of making such a public announcement? Didn't they fear Grindelwald might sabotage their plans from the shadows?
After some thought, Ivan concluded that with so many people involved, it would be impossible to keep it a secret. Grindelwald would easily get wind of it through various channels. Therefore, it made more sense to hold the meeting openly, making it clear that they intended to confront Grindelwald and to curb the arrogance of his followers.
As for security, Ivan didn't think he needed to worry. With so many leaders present, North America wouldn't dare to be lax. They might even have traps set, waiting for Grindelwald to walk right into them.
