Chapter 931: Frequent Malicious Attacks
Chapter 931: Frequent Malicious Attacks
"Great job, Ron. It looks like you’ve mastered non-verbal spellcasting. However, I need to remind you that using this Magic technique often weakens a Wizard's spell. So, in a real Duel, it’s best used to catch your opponent off guard for the best effect..."
On Friday, in the Great Hall of Hogwarts, Ivan watched Ron, who had just won a series of consecutive matches and was struggling to contain his excitement, and offered a word of advice.
"Alright, I’ll keep that in mind", Ron said nonchalantly, still basking in the joy of his victory and the attention it brought. He eagerly asked, "Who’s my next opponent?"
"Next, you’ll go up against Malfoy", Ivan turned to look at the other side of the Duelling Platform. At that moment, Malfoy had been caught off guard by Harry’s Disarming Charm, tumbling awkwardly on the ground and looking absolutely livid.
Ivan wasn’t surprised by the outcome of the Duel. Harry had always been exceptionally talented in Defense Against the Dark Arts, which was why he had managed to survive Voldemort’s attacks multiple times.
In contrast, while Malfoy knew a fair share of advanced Dark Spells, his combat experience was severely lacking, making it no surprise that he was thoroughly outmatched.
"Nice one, Harry! Now it’s my turn to humble him!" Ron, seeing Malfoy’s embarrassing state, whistled excitedly and stepped onto the platform in Harry’s place.
"You’ll regret choosing me as your opponent, Weasley!" Malfoy glared at Ron with intense anger.
"Then come on and try me!" Ron, riding high on two consecutive wins, was brimming with confidence. On the other side, Malfoy, still smarting from his defeat by Harry, had become much more cautious, casting several Protective Spells on himself as soon as the Duel began.
Ron, however, misinterpreted Malfoy’s caution as cowardice and mocked him mercilessly.
But Ron’s arrogance soon caught up with him. Less than a minute into the Duel, he was hit by one of Malfoy’s spells and found himself performing an involuntary tap dance in front of the young Wizards, much to their amusement.
The afternoon passed quickly, and by ten past five, Ivan announced the end of the Duelling Class. Gryffindor emerged as the victorious house, with Hermione standing out the most by defeating several seventh-year graduates, cementing her position as the undisputed champion.
The young Wizards were reluctant to leave, and Ron was particularly bitter about his earlier defeat, blaming it on his overconfidence and already planning to challenge Malfoy again.
Once the Great Hall had mostly cleared out, Ivan turned to Hermione and said with a smile, "Congratulations on winning the Duelling Class, Hermione."
"Well, that’s all thanks to your excellent teaching, Professor", Hermione replied with a teasing tone.
But Ivan, seizing the opportunity, responded, "Hmm, you have a point. So, have you thought about how you’re going to thank me?"
Hermione was taken aback by Ivan’s sudden question and stood there, stunned. After a moment, she glanced around to ensure no one was watching and then tiptoed to kiss Ivan’s cheek.
Just that... just that... just that? Ivan’s face fell in disappointment.
Hermione, clearly annoyed, glared at Ivan. She had kissed him, what more did he want?
The two of them fooled around in the Great Hall for a while before heading back to the Common Room together.
"More Muggles have been attacked. What’s happening in the Wizarding World?" Hermione sighed as she flipped through the latest issue of the Daily Prophet.
Ivan curiously took the newspapers and glanced at the front page, where a shocking headline caught his eye. A deranged warlock had rushed onto the streets of Paris and, in the most crowded area, released an Explosion Charm, killing dozens of Muggles on the spot.
The photos in the paper showed a scene that was truly horrifying.
"Are incidents like this happening a lot lately?" Ivan frowned, realizing the gravity of the situation.
"Counting this one, it's the ninth major incident this month, but they've all occurred in France and the Nordic countries", Hermione responded hesitantly.
"France again..." Ivan muttered to himself. This seemed to be connected to Grindelwald.
However, Ivan couldn't understand the purpose behind these actions. Was Grindelwald trying to reveal the existence of wizards to the public?
If that were the case, the number of wizards sent to cause chaos in Muggle areas would be much greater...
Nine major incidents in one month were still within the Ministry of Magic's capacity to handle.
As Ivan was thinking, the Common Room door was suddenly pushed open with a loud bang. Ivan, his thoughts interrupted, looked over with a slight annoyance. It was none other than the North American Head of Enforcement, Cornell, followed by several tense-looking Aurors.
The young wizards in the Common Room curiously watched these uninvited guests. Cornell didn't have time to explain much; he pulled down his hat and walked over to Ivan, speaking in a low voice.
"Lord Hals, can we speak privately? I have important news about that person..."
Cornell glanced at Hermione, clearly not wanting anyone else to overhear their conversation.
"Of course, no problem!" Ivan nodded and reassured Hermione a few times before leading Cornell to his office.
Ivan waved his wand to close the door and cast a silencing spell. "You can speak now, Director Cornell!"
"Over the past month, you must have heard about the attacks in France, Lord Hals?" Cornell asked seriously.
"Ah, yes, I've seen the newspapers—nine major incidents!" Ivan rubbed his nose, feeling somewhat guilty.
He had assumed that North America and Britain would inform him of important matters, so he hadn't paid much attention to the major events in the Wizarding World recently.
"That's just what has been reported. In fact, there have been thirteen targeted attacks", Cornell corrected him. "Moreover, we've received word that Grindelwald is capturing Potion Masters. Several have gone missing in recent days, including Britain's own Horace Slughorn."
"Have you figured out why he's targeting them?" Ivan asked seriously.
"Not yet. If it weren't for the timing, we wouldn't have suspected Grindelwald", Cornell sighed in frustration.
The International Wizards' Federation had many informants in France, but Grindelwald was proving to be extremely difficult to handle. He had even turned two Aurors, which severely hampered their operations and resulted in significant losses.
