Chapter 93: Starlight 004 Floating Land
Chapter 93: Starlight 004 Floating Land
In the connection area between the starship’s engine room and the control room, dozens of bipedal, large-headed alien beings had already formed a tight defensive line. Liao Chi had never seen this species before, and there was no record of them in the Star Sea Civilization and Species Catalog of the Ember Civilization. However, given that it was a low-tier technological civilization, Liao Chi naturally didn’t think these beings possessed any special abilities.
Thus, the ten fully-armed Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones wasted no time. They raised their advanced titanium alloy shields with their left arms and charged forward, braving the dense barrage of gunfire.
The aliens in front were clearly not known for their physical prowess. Once the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones got past the initial wave of ranged attacks and closed in, they would turn into wolves among sheep, ensuring a one-sided massacre.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The gunfire relentlessly pelted the titanium alloy shields, sparks flying as the entire engine room was enveloped in the sharp sounds of metal clashing.
Despite the intense barrage, the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones were not significantly damaged. They continued to advance steadily. The titanium alloy shields, though only first-tier equipment, had a hardness that rivaled second-tier gear, making them exceptionally durable against the dense gunfire.
Moreover, the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones were now second-tier, and their puppet bodies were impervious to pain. Even the occasional stray shot that hit them had little impact.
Due to these advantages, the ten Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones quickly broke through the aliens' defensive line.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
As Liao Chi had anticipated, these aliens likely devoted most of their nutrients to their large heads, leaving their bodies frail. With each swing of their titanium alloy blades, the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones could decapitate four or more aliens.
In less than half a minute, the dozens of aliens outside the control room were eliminated, and it was far from challenging.
Without lingering, the ten Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones, under Liao Chi’s mental command, continued their rapid advance toward the starship’s control room.
The essence of a starship lay in its control room. If there were any rare treasures, they would certainly be found there. Understanding this, Liao Chi wasted no time and led the ten Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones straight to the control room.
Panic-stricken, the remaining aliens on the starship chose to close the control room’s door, hoping to delay the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones. However, in Liao Chi’s eyes, these aliens were like turtles locking themselves in a jar, waiting to be caught.
The Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones’ bodies glowed with intense energy, and their second-tier puppet bodies granted them terrifying strength. With powerful swings, the ten silver titanium alloy blades relentlessly chopped at the metal door of the control room.
At first, the thick metal door held firm, but as the chopping continued, the resilience and hardness of the titanium alloy became evident. The metal door gradually cracked, while the ten advanced titanium alloy blades remained unscathed, not a single notch appearing on their surfaces.
Crack!
Another round of chopping, and the metal door could no longer hold. It collapsed with a loud boom, and the interior of the control room came into Liao Chi’s view.
The control room was not much different from those of ordinary starships. Besides a dozen or so first- and second-tier aliens, what caught Liao Chi’s attention was a fruit-like object floating in the center of the control panel.
This object, resembling a pomegranate, emitted a brilliant white light, indicating it was a white-quality Star Sea Curiosity.
Unfortunately, apart from this white-quality item, there were no other Star Sea Curiosities in the control room, which left Liao Chi somewhat disappointed. For him, a white-quality Curiosity was no longer particularly appealing; a blue-quality one would have been more interesting.
Despite his brief disappointment, the ten Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones entered the control room one after another, beginning to clear out the remaining aliens. Even if he wasn’t particularly excited, Liao Chi wasn’t wasteful enough to ignore a white-quality Curiosity, which was still worth several thousand strands of zero-tier Floating Land Essence.
As expected, even with a few second-tier aliens in the control room, they were no match for the fully-armed Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Drones. It just took a bit more effort.
Ten minutes later, the entire control room was cleared of the alien intruders. In addition to the four strands of First-Rank and numerous strands of Zero-Rank Floating Land Essence, Song Chi successfully obtained the white Star Sea Curiosity he had been hoping for.
Curiosity: Fruit of the Five-Hundred-Year Healing Tree
Quality: White
Evolvable: 1 {Healing Fruit}
Note: The fruit of a special Floating Land plant that has been cultivated for many years, transforming it into a white Star Sea Curiosity.
Once the dark energy from the Fire Cockscomb Soldier statues completely eroded the fruit, the attributes of the component it transformed into were revealed.
Healing Fruit lv0
Quality: White
Cost: 300 points (Dark Energy) per use
Effect: Repairs 5% of damaged ship armor.
Cooldown: 24 hours; Recharge: 20 seconds
Upgrade Requirements: 3 strands of Zero-Rank Floating Land Essence, 300 Dark Energy points
After reviewing the detailed attributes, Song Chi was pleasantly surprised. Initially, he hadn't given much thought to the white curiosity, planning either to sell it upon return or to stock it for his future "Curiosity Exchange Shop."
He never expected that the only Star Sea Curiosity on this starship would be a repair-type curiosity, which was exactly what the Azure Sky needed.
Although the Healing Fruit's quality wasn't high, it was far superior to the nanobot repair kit. At least it could be used multiple times, and its repair effectiveness would likely improve with higher levels.
Song Chi's mood instantly brightened. He commanded the ten Fire Cockscomb Soldier statues to return to the Azure Sky and, as a final gesture, fired the main cannon to completely destroy the Second-Rank starship that was already on the brink of sinking.
After acquiring another strand of First-Rank Floating Land Essence, he piloted the Azure Sky to continue exploring other areas of the battlefield.
Tasting the sweet rewards, Song Chi was no longer satisfied with Zero-Rank and First-Rank alien starships. Instead, he focused on Second-Rank alien starships. Each time he sank a Second-Rank starship, he not only obtained more than ten strands of First-Rank Floating Land Essence but also had a chance to find Star Sea Curiosities, which greatly piqued his interest.
Time passed quickly, and soon seven hours had gone by. During this time, Song Chi sank no fewer than ten Second-Rank alien starships, accumulating nearly two hundred strands of First-Rank Floating Land Essence.
However, the bad news was that not every Second-Rank starship contained a Star Sea Curiosity. Including the first Healing Fruit, Song Chi had only managed to obtain three white curiosities.
Apart from the Healing Fruit, the other two were both Starlight-Class Main Cannons. The problem was that these were main cannon components, not secondary cannons, which Song Chi didn't need.
After nearly eight hours of wandering, the Azure Sky had moved from the center of the battlefield to the edge. In the airship's control room, Song Chi rubbed his temples.
After eight hours of intense focus, plus the initial Overlimit state, his mind was extremely fatigued.
As he relaxed a bit, his eyes scanned the area, contemplating his next move.
He had three options:
1. Continue staying in the battlefield to harvest starships and earn Floating Land Essence.
2. Leave the battlefield, find a secluded corner to enter the market, and use the market's spatial anchor feature to travel to the star system containing the Blo Civilizational Ruins. He could use the remaining hours to try and break through the second layer of the spatial barrier in the ruins.
3. Earlier, when the Azure Sky had been in the battlefield for an hour, the "Star Map Collector" feature of the Heavenly Eye Patrol Radar had activated, providing a detailed star map of a three-light-year radius. This map included a Life-Type Floating Land of the Starlight Civilization. He could leave the battlefield and use the Purple River Jump Device to travel to that Life-Type Floating Land.
After carefully analyzing and comparing the three options, Song Chi ultimately chose the third one.
The reasons were straightforward. The first and second options were both ruled out.
The first option had a significant drawback: after eight hours of wandering and hunting with the Azure Sky, most of the Second-Rank starships in the battlefield had already been sunk. The remaining First-Rank starships, after such a long battle, numbered fewer than a thousand, and the rest were Zero-Rank starships.
Even if Song Chi sank all the remaining alien starships in the battlefield, he would only harvest a maximum of a thousand strands of Zero-Rank Floating Land Essence, which wasn't particularly meaningful.
As for the second point, the weapons on the Celestial Vessel have not been upgraded. Even if they manage to break through the spatial barrier of the second level of the ruin, they would still be unable to handle the countless insectoids that might appear. There would be no chance of destroying the crystal box in the third level of the spatial domain and retrieving the Star Sea Curiosity it contains.
Compared to these two points, a brand new life-type Star Sea Floating Land, even one where resources have been depleted, is far more attractive.
Determined, Song Chi no longer lingered and maneuvered the Celestial Vessel swiftly toward the outskirts of the battlefield. According to the star map collected by the Sky Eye Patrol Radar, the life-type floating land was over two light-years away. To reach it quickly, they would need to perform a Star Sea Jump.
Each Star Sea Jump required a significant amount of charging time and was easily disrupted, so it couldn't be done near the battlefield.
A few minutes later, the Celestial Vessel had traveled a sufficient distance and stopped to begin the formal charging process for the Star Sea Jump.
During the charging, Song Chi's gaze continuously examined the several star maps floating in front of him.
The central map was generated by the Sky Eye Patrol Radar, while the other three were found on the destroyed Star Radiance Civilization starships. These three maps covered a much larger area, encompassing the entire hundred-light-year domain of the Star Radiance Civilization.
What made Song Chi particularly envious was that all three maps marked the existence of a Level 2 Star Sea Floating Land, clearly indicating that the Star Radiance Civilization possessed a Level 2 life-type floating land.
A Level 2 Star Sea Floating Land, especially one that was a life-type Star Sea Curiosity, had a much larger area than a Level 1 floating land. It could support more carbon-based life forms and, most importantly, stably produce First-Order Floating Land Essence. There was even a chance for Second-Order Floating Land Essence, far surpassing the capabilities of a Level 1 floating land like the White Tower.
Unfortunately, each of the three maps had significant differences, and the coordinates of the Level 2 floating land on each map were different. It was clear that the alien races had intentionally tampered with the maps, making it impossible for Song Chi to directly jump to the vicinity of the Level 2 floating land.
He had also considered other methods, such as searching for unaltered maps on the Zero-Order and First-Order Star Radiance Civilization starships, but unfortunately, the maps on those ships were only partial and did not mark the coordinates of the Star Sea Floating Lands.
He even specifically commanded the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier puppets to capture several Second-Order aliens, but the language barrier was insurmountable, even with the Star Sea Universal Translator.
"Ah well, it seems I can only go and check around this floating land."
Sighing, Song Chi deleted the three maps and stopped dwelling on the matter. Instead, he focused his attention on the star map generated by the Sky Eye Patrol Radar.
The only map he could see and grasp at the moment was this one. As for the others, he could only hope for other opportunities.
However, Song Chi felt the chances were slim. After all, the Purple River Jump Device required 12 hours of cooldown after each use, and by then, the Celestial Vessel would have only a few hours left before it needed to return.
As he waited, the charging time for the Purple River Jump Device approached. When intense spatial fluctuations echoed through the remote star domain, the Celestial Vessel, which had been suspended in place for half an hour, suddenly disappeared, plunging directly into the several-meter-wide spatial vortex ahead.
...
Star Radiance Civilization's Third Star Zone, Floating Land 004.
As the stronghold of the Star Radiance Civilization's Freedom Faction, Floating Land 004 had extremely high defense levels. It was permanently guarded by the Second Freedom Fleet and a full-strength Floating Land Defense Team.
Because of this, Floating Land 004 had not been attacked by hostile factions for over a century. However, today, the urgent alarm that enveloped the entire floating land shattered the long-standing peace.
Outside the floating land, the Second Freedom Fleet, which had enjoyed a long period of peace, had not yet issued a fleet-wide alert when it was already under intense attack.
Under the searing particle beams, several Second-Order starships docked at the periphery of the base were immediately pierced through, with casualties in the main control rooms.
In the distance, the Celestial Vessel, having reactivated its dark matter energy shield, revealed its form.
