Chapter 93: Rain Land! Has it all!
Chapter 93: Rain Land! Has it all!
The lizard came to a stop, and Sag jumped down from its head. His men quickly climbed down from the giant lizard's back and eagerly reached for the water bags at their waists, guzzling the water.
The desert was no sea. Going without water for a couple of hours was bearable at sea, but under the scorching sun of the desert, one would get thirsty.
"So this is Rain Land."
Renitia gazed at the distant desert, her hand on her forehead as she admired the Rain Land's architecture, her eyes sparkling. "It does look worthy of a raid, much better than Nanohala."
"A gambling city will naturally be decadent."
Sag replied, "A lot of money flows through this place daily, be it gold, silver, gems, or piles of Berry. With gamblers, there's no such thing as being poor or rich. Once we get the order, we'll raid the place. We won't bother with normal shops as they don't have much money, not worth the time."
There was no difference between the gamblers' money going to the casino or to Sag. Either way, it would vanish from their hands.
Giving it to the casino was useless, but giving it to Sag—that was helping to fulfill every dream!
Whether they would think so or not—who cared?
"Let's go, boys! Let's go experience the casino!"
Sag laughed heartily and led his men toward Rain Land.
Without the overbearing presence and intimidation of the two Sandora lizards, the giant lizards immediately burrowed into the desert, forming a sand dune as they swiftly escaped. In the blink of an eye, they had already reached the distant desert beyond the horizon.
When it came to speed, these creatures were far faster than camels.
It also saved Sag time, as he had originally planned to spend two days in the desert. If he hadn't known about the easy money in Rain Land, this pirate would have preferred to operate near the port.
Unless necessary, he didn't want to venture inland, much less into desert areas. It naturally conflicted with Sag's personality.
The place where the lizard stopped wasn't far from Rain Land. After a ten-minute walk, they entered Rain Land, and aside from the surrounding desert, the city looked like any ordinary place with a sufficient water supply.
The number of travelers in the entire city surpassed that of Nanohala, and they all had dreamy expressions on their faces as they carried briefcases or cloth bags, entering various large and small casinos. The biggest of them all, 'Rain Banquet,' was the dreamland of everyone.
"They seem so excited. Is there something good happening here?"
Renitia wondered, observing the people with expectant expressions.
"Of course, they're excited," Sag scoffed. "Their 'dreams' exist here."
"Dreams?" Renitia blinked. "What kind of dream could bring so many people together? Do they want to become a gambling king?"
"Something like that, or..."
Sag shook his head and laughed, "To strike it rich overnight. Some people strike it rich overnight here, obtaining massive wealth, while others lose everything they have to the casino. But whether it's the former or the latter, as long as they stay here, eventually, they will all end up penniless."
Casinos were in the business of making money, not charity. That would go against the natural order.
"Let's go experience Rain Banquet. You guys can play for a while, too. Remember how much you lose, and when we raid later, you're allowed to take back your principal. If you win, then that's your profit!"
Sag led his men toward Rain Banquet, which was situated by the only lake in this oasis, occupying the entire lakeside.
With Sag's group, there were almost sixty people in total, and no one stopped them. After entering the grand door, they beheld a bustling hall.
The people inside were all holding money, crowding around one gambling table after another, placing bets with near-frenzied enthusiasm, completely unperturbed by the arrival of Sag's group.
There were people playing craps, pulling slot machine levers, trying their luck at blackjack, and poker players were also present.
"You're still here?"
A red dot flashed in Sag's eyes as he glanced upward, shaking his head. He signaled for his men to disperse and do as they pleased, then waved over a nearby attendant.
"Change these into chips for me."
He tossed a bag of gold coins, which the attendant eagerly caught before scurrying away.
"You're going to play too?" Lily asked, clearly taken aback.
"Why? Am I not allowed to play?"
Sag shot her a displeased glance. "Have you heard of something called 'participation'? I may be having a streak of bad luck, but that doesn't mean I should abstain from participating, right? Besides, it will all come back to me soon enough, multiplied many times over."
It didn't matter how much money he lost.
It was all temporary anyway. Before long, it would all come back to him, multiplied many times over.
He still had some time to kill, so he might as well pass the time.
As the attendant returned with a pleasant smile and handed over the chips, Sag proceeded to show Lily what it meant to be truly jinxed.
At blackjack, Sag drew two face cards for a total of twenty and decided to stand. The dealer, however, revealed a blackjack, winning the hand.
Unfazed, Sag placed another bet. This time, he drew two face cards again, but when he drew a third card, he busted with three face cards.
On his third bet, he drew face cards again, and the same fate befell him on the fourth bet.
"See you later!"
Sag immediately walked away and headed for the slot machines. While someone might have tampered with these machines, they would still pay out occasionally. But for Sag, it seemed like the reels would never land on matching symbols, not even two, let alone three.
Even with the roulette wheel, which required skill and a keen eye, unexpected collisions between the ball and the wheel's pockets would cause the ball to land on a different number.
At the poker table...
"...and you would never have guessed that this card is actually the Ace of Hearts! Chou Xiao Chi, you lose!"
Sag dramatically drew the final card and slammed it face-up on the table, stunning the poker players around him.
He had a straight flush!
And he had them all!
Lily stood by, her eyes twitching uncontrollably. She couldn't believe what she was witnessing. How could he go all in with just an Ace of Hearts as his hole card?
Did he even bother to look at his cards?
And who was Chou Xiao Chi?
The way Sag was glaring at the dealer, it seemed like he wanted to rip the man open. If Sag hadn't immediately left the table, Lily would have thought it was a signal, and she would have drawn her sword and caused a ruckus.
Although the chips were dwindling, Sag seemed to be in high spirits as he casually strolled from one table to another.
Just as he was about to play another slot machine, a gentle voice called out from behind.
"You're here."
Hearing the voice, Lily turned first and saw a smiling woman who exuded a similar aura to Marika—both had a gentle and calm demeanor.
But...
Lily glanced at the woman and then at Sag, who was pulling the slot machine's lever, and her eyes widened in surprise.
She looked so similar!
She looked just like the woman on the wanted poster!
"Nee—"
"Don't disturb me."
Before Lily could finish, Sag turned around and faced the woman with a gentle smile. "I'm having fun."
"My men reported seeing a familiar face. Since you're here to play, why don't we make it even more enjoyable? Our boss invites you to join us." The woman smiled as she extended the invitation.
