Chapter 93: Only Action Brings Answers
Chapter 93: Only Action Brings Answers
"Joel, what brings you here?"
Lindsay hurried over to greet him, while the young craftsman offered a reluctant smile.
"Sorry."
"I left in a hurry yesterday and forgot to return the key to you."
Joel took out the key to the wooden house and handed it over.
After Lindsay took it, Joel was about to leave, but Lindsay stopped him.
"Joel, don't rush off."
"You don't look well. Is something wrong? Do you need my help?"
Joel paused and sighed after being stopped.
Knowing he couldn't hide anything from Lindsay, he put aside his inner conflict and sat down in the foyer, "Lindsay, you don't know what happened."
"This morning, my grandfather told me something."
"Last night, Lord An Rui returned from Black Mountain and gathered the Awakened in town for a meeting... a very intense one."
Lindsay sensed hesitation in Joel's tone, "A very intense meeting?"
Joel nodded, "Yes, very intense. To put it simply, many people expressed their desire to leave the Hidden Frontier."
Lindsay cautiously asked, "I assume Lord An Rui wouldn't allow that?"
Joel confirmed Lindsay's guess, "Exactly. Lord An Rui scolded those with such thoughts, and they ended up in a big argument!"
Lindsay pressed further, "And what was the outcome?"
Joel shook his head, "He's still the Lord, and not everyone supports the idea of leaving. In the end, the argument led to an unhappy disbandment."
Lindsay observed Joel's expression, easily discerning his stance on the matter.
After all, even before Lindsay entrusted Joel with the task of crafting items, Joel had expressed his desire to leave the town.
But the threat of the Black Mountain Wyvern loomed.
Most people, valuing their lives, wouldn't risk the danger of attempting to cross the border.
Now, the situation had changed.
The Wyvern's advancement was like a time bomb ticking down at the town's edge, and its unpredictability only added to the tension. Combined with the Awakened's thoughts in town, this was a crisis even more destructive than a clear path to destruction.
Suddenly, Joel asked Lindsay for his opinion, "Lindsay, what do you think about this?"
Lindsay shared his thoughts candidly, "Being stuck in the Hidden Frontier isn't ideal, but if we're to break through Black Mountain, we need to find a safe method. We can't blindly sacrifice ourselves at the Wyvern's feet."
Joel's tone quickened, "But do you know? That Wyvern is advancing from Phase Seven, and if it succeeds..."
"The slim chance we have now might disappear completely!"
Joel's concern was one of the greatest crises facing the Hidden Frontier.
But as the weaker party, what could the Awakened in town do? Offer themselves as a meal to the Wyvern during its tense advancement?
Joel's emotions ran high as he spoke.
Persuading Lindsay with personal opinions was impossible.
Lindsay decided to guide Joel to find his own answers, "Joel, which do you value more? Your life or leaving the Hidden Frontier?"
Joel was about to speak, but Lindsay cut him off.
"Don't rush to answer me. Think about it seriously!"
Joel blinked, contemplating her words.
As Joel's thoughts drifted from his anxious state, he couldn't provide an answer and instead shook his head with a bitter expression.
"I can't understand these kinds of things."
"Lindsay, I know you're always full of ideas, which is why I wanted to ask for your opinion."
Lindsay then shared a story with Joel:
"Joel, do you know?"
"In some place in the outside world, before a war begins, people always promote an idea, saying that honor is above all else, or that the duty to protect one's country is the highest priority."
"After the war ends, others will proclaim that life is the most precious and invaluable."
"These two ideas are clearly contradictory, yet they are proposed by the same person."
"But in the context of their environment, both ideas would receive unanimous agreement from most people, even if their previous beliefs contradicted them."
"Which of these two statements do you think is correct?"
The young craftsman was at a loss for words.
Given his upbringing, it was impossible for him to have considered such a question.
Joel's throat tightened, and he shook his head just as he had before:
"I... I don't understand."
Lindsay walked over and patted Joel's shoulder.
They walked out of the wooden house together, heading towards the town.
Lindsay didn't tell Joel about her own thoughts.
These were necessary messages to address the current situation, not a matter of right or wrong.
He still offered a compromising answer:
"In my opinion, neither is correct, nor are they wrong."
"It's just that in different stages, everyone's goals are also different."
"Reality is the same; between every different choice, only practical actions can tell someone what their own answer is."
Lindsay left Joel, looking perplexed, and returned to the craftsman's cottage.
But under the cover of night, Lindsay sighed as she made her way back to the wooden house:
"This kind of question..."
"How can I, a mere game player, possibly solve this easily?"
Lindsay was torn between the people's beliefs and the reality of the situation.
Just like Joel, who had just left, Lindsay was conflicted.
She wished to be free from the constraints of the hidden frontier, but she couldn't bear the thought of the townspeople losing their lives.
If only she could be like a game character, rushing to the Black Mountain without a care, where some miraculous twist of fate would allow her to slay the Wyvern and resolve all the contradictions.
But reality rarely offers such opportunities.
As Lindsay pondered, her gaze grew sharper in the night.
With her limited experience, she formed a new hypothesis.
The conflict between An Rui and the Awakened in town was fundamentally a clash of irreconcilable ideologies.
A meeting that ended in discord couldn't bring it to a close.
The town would undoubtedly stir up a storm.
At worst, the town might fall apart, or even erupt into violent internal conflict!
"If this really happens, what should I do?" Lindsay wondered.
As she thought, her focus shifted to her attribute panel, the source of her potential.
The answer was the same as what she had told Joel:
"The solution to problems can only be found through action."
"I must become stronger, addressing the root of the problem, or else things will spiral out of control amidst the contradictions!"
