Chapter 93: Conditions
Chapter 93: Conditions
Just as Guan Yuming was on the phone with the bureau, three armored transport vehicles were driving towards Caijia Village. On one of the vehicles, adorned with a blooming Mulan logo, the dark petals of the flower were both dark and dazzling.
Inside one of the armored vehicles sat He Yaoxian, the newly appointed External Affairs Officer of Mulan Corporation, and Wan Poming, the captain of the third team of the External Security Department.
He Yaoxian appeared to be in his twenties, always wearing a smile that wouldn't fade. He was slightly overweight, but he exuded vitality.
Even though he hadn't practiced martial arts, Mulan Corporation provided him with a quota of medication to maintain his youthful state, despite being nearly forty years old.
His hair was thick, his muscles were not slack, and he still looked full of energy. His eyes were bright, and not only did he appear as youthful as a young man on the outside, but he also only needed three hours of sleep each day to maintain his energy and work efficiency throughout the day.
This was all thanks to the advanced medication. Each rank within the company had access to different medications, and the higher the position, the more benefits one received. However, if he couldn't maintain his position and provide satisfactory returns to the company, all the benefits would disappear.
But how could that be?
In the highly competitive Central City, he might feel inadequate, but in the Yangzhi City branch, he only dealt with minor local matters. There was no reason for him not to handle them well.
He glanced at Wan Poming, the captain of the third team, who was usually silent and taciturn. He hadn't spoken a word throughout the entire journey, which pleased He Yaoxian. Such people made excellent tools, requiring no questions, only obedience to orders.
He Yaoxian comfortably asked, "Captain Wan, are you confident about this mission?"
Wan Poming replied with a serious expression, "Director He, I've reviewed the information on Fang Dawei and his group. They are using outdated or defective experimental products with side effects. Even if they have the advantage of terrain, my team can capture them within five to ten minutes."
He Yaoxian asked curiously, "Why five to ten minutes? If you're confident, shouldn't you capture them in the shortest time possible?"
Wan Poming explained, "Some people may undergo abnormal mutations due to implant stimulation, and the degree varies from person to person, which might complicate things. But it's not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes, the company welcomes such occurrences as they provide new ideas and materials for the laboratory."
"Indeed, a veteran of the company," He Yaoxian praised. As the newly appointed External Affairs Officer, he was indeed unfamiliar with these matters, as his previous role primarily involved communication with subsidiary companies and various municipal departments, rarely dealing with such issues.
This was especially true in places like Yangzhi City, where some matters didn't require deliberate handling. Usually, the subordinates could handle them, and they wouldn't reach the higher-ups.
"Director He, we're almost there," the female assistant whispered.
He Yaoxian looked outside and saw patrol officers stationed on both sides of the road, with patrol vehicles coming and going, appearing busy. He couldn't help but smile with a hint of sarcasm.
The three Mulan armored transport vehicles turned into an uphill ramp and, after a while, arrived at a larger open space. This area was directly below the command post of the outpost, and there were also several parked vehicles from the Patrol Bureau.
After the vehicles came to a stop, fully armed security personnel with customized firearms, wearing face masks and double-layered protective suits, disembarked and set up a perimeter. Only then did He Yaoxian exit the vehicle. He looked up at the sun and said, "It's a bit hot today."
The female assistant quickly took out a fan to cool him down.
He Yaoxian pointed towards the outpost's guard post with his finger, and immediately, an attendant went over to negotiate with the patrol officers there, informing them that their team had arrived and needed to meet with Deputy Director Guan Yuming. They also requested to take over the matter, handing it over to Mulan Corporation.
The attendant quickly returned and said, "Director, they said that Deputy Director Guan is not here. He went to the front village to appease the villagers."
"Appease the villagers?"
He Yaoxian sneered, not believing a word of it. He thought to himself, "Stalling for time? That's useless. If the Patrol Bureau could capture Fang Dawei and his group, they would have done so already. Stalling won't help."
He walked towards the vehicle and said, "In that case, since Director Guan is busy and can't meet with us, we'll take the trouble to go and see him."
Just as he was saying this, a Patrol Bureau's open-top SUV drove towards them. The female assistant took a look and said, "Director, it's Guan Yuming, but he doesn't seem to be in his official vehicle."
He Yaoxian stopped in his tracks. The open-top SUV quickly approached, and when it came to a stop, the surrounding patrol officers saluted respectfully.
Guan Yuming returned the salute from the vehicle.
He Yaoxian walked over with a smile and said, "Director Guan, I heard you went to the front village to handle some matters. May I ask if they've been resolved?"
Guan Yuming replied, "Yes, they have been resolved."
He Yaoxian was pleased. With Guan Yuming's cooperation, many issues could be avoided. Mulan Corporation had influence over the Government Hall, but they had no control over the Patrol Bureau, as it was directly under the jurisdiction of higher authorities.
The Patrol Bureau's primary focus in the city was not the bandits and criminals, but rather the Mulan Corporation itself. This was a mutual understanding between the bureau and the company.
"Director Guan, in that case, let's expedite the handover. After all, we need to capture Fang Dawei and his gang as soon as possible to provide an update to the Government Hall. It's beneficial for both of us, isn't it?"
Director Guan Yuming sighed, "Fang Dawei and his gang have caused quite a stir. They've been on the wanted list for so long, and it's embarrassing that the Patrol Bureau has only now located them, allowing them to create such a ruckus in the city."
He Yaoxian sighed, "Director Guan, you're too kind. With over six million people in Yangzhi City, it's inevitable for the Patrol Bureau to have some oversight in managing such a vast area."
Director Guan Yuming nodded, "That's why we must address these oversights. It's difficult to prevent problems before they occur, but we can certainly try to fix them after the fact."
He Yaoxian raised an eyebrow, and with a slight smile, he said, "Director Guan, this isn't your fault. The Government Hall doesn't intend to pursue the matter, and we at Mulan Corporation are willing to assist in resolving the issue. We'll also give the Patrol Bureau some coverage in our subsequent publications. This way, everyone wins, right?"
He assumed that Director Guan was trying to negotiate terms, something he was familiar with. He could arrange for the media to speak favorably about the Patrol Bureau, but that was the extent of his influence.
"In that case, thank you, Councilor He. But this matter is already under control and doesn't require your further involvement." Director Guan paused briefly before continuing, "We've dealt with all the bandits, and there are no fugitives left at large."
He Yaoxian was taken aback by his words. Instinctively, he glanced around and then back at Director Guan Yuming, "Director Guan, it's resolved? You're not joking, are you?"
Director Guan Yuming replied, "The criminals and their bodies are right there. We'll be announcing it in the newspapers today. The Patrol Bureau never goes easy on those who cross the line." He glanced at He Yaoxian again, "Well, Councilor He, I must return the remaining criminals to headquarters promptly. There's a mountain of work waiting for me there, so I can't keep you company any longer."
After saying this, he returned to the SUV. Suddenly, he turned back, "Oh, right. The content in your company's publications may need some adjustments. I'd appreciate it if you could oversee that." With a signal, the car started and drove off.
As a whistle sounded, rows of patrol officers behind them shouldered their guns, turned in unison, and marched towards the armored transport vehicle below.
He Yaoxian's face turned grim. How could the Patrol Bureau have resolved the issue? Damn it! Failing to complete the company's task was one thing, but the situation was worse because Fang Dawei's gang held many secrets, and there were live captives involved. Now that the Patrol Bureau had captured them, who knew what they would do with the information?
Mulan Corporation might not collapse, but there would be significant losses. And after the incident, someone would surely be held accountable, and the most suitable person for that...
His face paled, and his body began to tremble. The female assistant tried to wipe the sweat from his forehead, but it kept pouring.
Wan Poming remained silent, observing quietly.
Over the years, he had witnessed the downfall of countless company employees. They might have been glorious during their tenure, but one wrong step could lead to a pitiful end, a fate too terrible to witness.
He Yaoxian's thoughts raced, and he knew he had to save himself. He grabbed the female assistant by the collar, his expression twisted with desperation. She looked at him in horror, but he continued, "Find Director Guan, even if it's someone close to him. Tell him I'll meet any demands he has, and if I can't make the decision, I'll convey his wishes to the higher-ups!"
Meanwhile, the Patrol Bureau's director's car was heading towards the city. The interior was not lavish, but it was spacious and comfortable. The driver's skills were exceptional, ensuring a smooth and stable ride even on the city streets.
Wu Xuelang reclined on the flattened soft chair, addressing Chen Chuan, who was sitting beside him and gazing at the scenery outside, "Being able to ride in this car, I must say, is thanks to you, Chen."
Chen Chuan replied, "Compared to what you've done, this is nothing."
Wu Xuelang chuckled and sat up, "I went to do that for Liu, my brother. As for the rest, I don't care. Chen, I respect you for today's matter. In the future, if you need anything, just say the word, and I'll do it without hesitation."
Chen Chuan asked, "If you were in Liu's position, would you have gone to rescue someone?"
Wu Xuelang thought for a moment, "Perhaps I wouldn't have before, but now..." He affirmed, "I would!"
Chen Chuan nodded and extended his hand, "Chen Chuan, first-year student at Wu Yi Academy."
Wu Xuelang hesitated, then his eyes lit up with determination. He shook Chen Chuan's hand firmly, "Wu Han, second-year student at Wu Yi Academy!"
As the car turned a corner, Chen Chuan realized they were not heading towards the school. He tapped on the partition and asked when the contact window opened, "Where are we going?"
The director's deputy, sitting in the front passenger seat, smiled, "Mr. Chen, Director Guan has arranged for you to first visit Captain Nian's home to inform your family of your safety. Afterward, we'll take you back to school."
