Chapter 93: A Pre-Planned Attack (Second Update)
Chapter 93: A Pre-Planned Attack (Second Update)
"Captain, don't worry. A kid with a bit of superpower really thinks he's invincible!"
Another bulky man pulled out a tracking missile launcher from a box and began adjusting it with practiced ease.
The leader, a bulky man in a suit, shook his head.
"We can't be careless. The target is just a kid, but his abilities are quite bizarre. If he gets close, we'll have trouble. And from what we've seen, ordinary bullets don't seem to do much damage to him!"
"Don't worry, I don't believe he can withstand my rocket!"
The bulky man operating the tracking missile launcher loaded a rocket into the launcher.
"The key is to hit him. Has the drone been deployed?"
The leader nodded and turned to a young man on the other side.
"Captain, it's out and has already locked onto his position!"
"Dana, once the rocket hits, you immediately follow up with additional attacks. Make sure he's dead!"
The leader turned to a striking red-haired woman who was assembling a heavy sniper rifle.
"Once this job is done, we can retire."
The red-haired woman shot the leader a seductive glance.
"Don't worry, I have a Barrett heavy sniper rifle, and I'm using 1.27 cm armor-piercing bullets. Even steel plates can be blown apart from a kilometer away.
He might be able to withstand ordinary bullets, but he won't stand a chance against my armor-piercing bullets!"
She licked her lips and muttered with a twisted smile.
"I love seeing brains explode. I wonder if a kid's brain looks any different!"
The leader, a bulky man in a suit, seemed used to such talk and didn't comment further. Instead, he instructed the young man controlling the drone to closely track the wizard's flight path.
Meanwhile, in Hell's Kitchen,
A small van was speeding down the street. Inside, a woman in her twenties, camera in hand, urgently urged the driver.
"I just saw Mr. Wizard flying toward 39th Street. Hurry up, drive faster, or we'll miss everything today!"
The driver rolled his eyes.
"Miss Lucy, he's flying, and his direction is unpredictable. No matter how fast I drive, I can't catch up. I suggest we find a higher vantage point; we might get some shots that way!"
"No, that would be too blurry. I need close-ups, preferably of Wizard using Magic to fight criminals!"
The young woman with the camera leaned out the window to check the sky before shouting back to the driver.
This young woman was named Lucy, the same journalist Jerry saved when he first started fighting crime.
She was once an obscure, low-tier reporter whose daily job was interviewing street food vendors and small restaurants.
But when she met Jerry and witnessed Magic firsthand, she became fascinated by him.
She believed that by focusing all her efforts on Jerry, she could uncover many big stories and rise to become a top-tier journalist.
And she was right. When Jerry was still relatively unknown, it wasn't obvious, but once his name as Wizard became well-known across New York, any news related to him attracted widespread attention from the public.
This helped her, who had been staking out Jerry in Queens and capturing many photos of him, rise in the company. She even personally reported on the fire incident.
So, when she learned that Jerry often appeared in Hell's Kitchen to fight crime, she made it a habit to stake out there almost every night, hoping to capture some excellent photos.
But for now, it’s very difficult.
This wizard always acts so swiftly. He suddenly appears from the sky, dispatches the criminals with a few spells, and then flies away.
Even if a crime happens close to where they are, by the time they arrive, everything is already over.
So, whether it’s Lucy or other journalists who have the same idea, they find it very hard to capture clear, high-definition photos of the wizard subduing criminals.
...
"Petrify!"
Jerry had just finished dealing with a robber and was flying in the air on his broom when he suddenly frowned. A sense of being watched washed over him.
He quickly turned his broom and spotted two drones nearby, their cameras clearly visible.
"Could it be S.H.I.E.L.D. again? Doesn’t seem like it!"
Compared to the last time S.H.I.E.L.D. monitored him with drones, this time, Jerry’s sixth sense clearly detected an intense malevolence.
"Shatter!"
With a wave of his wand, he instantly destroyed one of the drones. But before he could cast another spell, the other drone was already speeding away to the west.
"Trying to run?"
Jerry accelerated, and his Nimbus 2000 shot through the air, chasing after the fleeing drone.
Although the drone was fast, the Nimbus 2000 wasn’t slow either, capable of reaching speeds close to 200 kilometers per hour. Jerry quickly closed the distance.
"Shatter!"
He flicked his wand, and a blue beam instantly reduced the drone to a pile of scrap metal.
At that moment, Jerry, who was in Superman Mode, suddenly felt an intense sense of danger.
"Oh no!"
He saw a rocket flying straight toward him from the edge of a rooftop ahead.
His wizard robe, enchanted with a shield charm, could protect him from ordinary bullet attacks, but there was no telling if it could withstand a rocket.
Jerry decided it was better not to take the risk.
The shield charm, while an extremely powerful defensive spell and an advanced one at that, required significant wizarding skill to be truly effective. He was still working hard to learn this spell himself.
The strength of a shield charm isn’t just in the spell itself but also in the wizard’s power. A shield charm cast by Dumbledore would be on a completely different level compared to one cast by a first-year wizard. Similarly, the killing curse, known for its guaranteed lethality, would only cause a nosebleed if cast by a weak wizard, as noted in Quill's notes.
The shield charm-enchanted wizard robe he had purchased at a high price was only average in quality.
Wizard robe shops typically didn’t sell robes with shield charms. He had to pay extra for the shop owner to attempt making one for him.
It wasn’t realistic to expect the shop owner to be an expert in shield charms; he could barely manage to cast one himself.
Moreover, through his recent studies in alchemy, Jerry knew that enchanted alchemical products, like defensive charms, were generally less effective than spells cast directly by a wizard.
