Chapter 929: Ivan: We Need to Give the Students a Bit of Pressure
Chapter 929: Ivan: We Need to Give the Students a Bit of Pressure
Ivan's words undoubtedly shattered Harry and the others' preconceived notions about magic. It turned out that casting spells didn't necessarily require so many complicated steps. As long as a wizard's will was strong enough, they could channel magic and cast spells with ease.
Once they realized this, the young wizards, with Ivan's tacit approval, began drawing their wands, eager to experiment.
Ron stared intently at his notebook, trying to set it on fire, but after a long while, the notebook remained motionless.
On the other side, Hermione was more pragmatic. She held her wand and waved it gently, silently reciting the Levitation Charm in her mind. Moments later, the notebook before her slowly began to float.
"Very good, Miss Hermione Granger has successfully completed a wordless casting. Ten points to Gryffindor!" Ivan, who had been closely observing the young witches, immediately praised her.
Seamus and the others immediately turned to look, seeing the notebook hovering in mid-air. They felt a mix of envy and increased determination.
Ivan walked around the classroom, guiding each student and encouraging them to follow Hermione's example by starting with the simplest wordless casting and gradually simplifying the casting process.
However, by the end of the lesson, only Hermione, Harry, and Malfoy managed to achieve wordless casting.
Fortunately, the other young wizards didn't get discouraged. This was a very advanced casting technique, and as Ivan had mentioned, many Aurors couldn't even do it.
After a class of effort, when they attempted wordless casting, their targets did show some reaction, though the magic effects were highly unstable.
For example, Seamus fiddled with his desk, trying to change its color, but almost ended up blowing it up entirely...
It's worth noting that Seamus tried to argue that he was using the Explosion Charm, but Ivan quickly saw through his claim, as he couldn't replicate the same result.
"Time's almost up. That's all for this lesson. Wordless casting will be your homework for this week. Next Monday, the house whose students master it the best will receive fifty points!" Ivan waved his wand, turning the lion statue back into a wooden desk, and announced loudly.
A Hufflepuff witch in the audience suddenly raised her hand.
"Miss Susan Bones, do you have a question?" Ivan asked, surprised.
"This isn't fair. We all know you used to be a Gryffindor student, and you'll definitely give your friends extra help in private", Susan Bones complained.
"No, Miss Bones, you seem to have forgotten that I am now the professor for all of you. This means that any of you can come to me for help after class if you have any questions about your studies... in this regard, everyone is on equal footing", Ivan explained.
"Will we be able to cast spells without incantations or wands like you after we finish this course?" Seamus asked hopefully.
Ivan didn't directly answer Seamus's question but instead encouraged them. "That depends on how seriously you take this class. Theoretically, everyone can achieve wandless, wordless casting, but it requires very advanced magical skills, so you must practice diligently!"
"Do any of you have other questions?" Ivan scanned the students below. Seeing no one raise their hands, he waved. "Then, class is dismissed!"
When Ivan walked out of the classroom, the students inside were still excitedly discussing the techniques of Wordless Casting.
"This isn't difficult at all. With a bit of effort, anyone can learn it", Malfoy boasted. He was the second person to master Wordless Casting after Hermione, even beating Harry by a bit.
"What's so great about that? He must have practiced at home!" Ron said, clearly displeased. He then looked at Hermione and Harry. "You guys did the same, right? Hermione? Harry?"
"Ah, pretty much", Harry reluctantly nodded, not wanting to hurt Ron's feelings.
Hermione rolled her eyes. Although she had learned some Wordless Casting techniques from Ivan in advance, it hadn't taken her much time to master them.
...
"How was it? Did the first class go smoothly, Hals?" Ten minutes later, at the teachers' table in the Great Hall, Professor Mcgonagall looked at Ivan and asked with interest.
"It went pretty well, as expected", Ivan replied with a smile.
"Seems like you have a natural talent for teaching, Hals! When I came in, I heard some sixth-year students discussing your class. It must have been about Non-Verbal Casting, right?" Flitwick praised him.
"Actually, it was just Wordless Casting. I plan to have them master it within the week", Ivan nodded and explained casually.
"Isn't that a bit too early? Such advanced techniques aren't typically taught to sixth-year students, are they?" Professor Mcgonagall furrowed her brow. In the British Wizarding World, only a small fraction of wizards could master Wordless Casting.
"Is it that hard? I was already proficient by second year!" Ivan asked, somewhat surprised.
Mcgonagall and Flitwick exchanged strange looks, wanting to retort that not everyone was as gifted as him...
"By the way, who taught you these techniques, Hals?" Professor Sprout asked, genuinely curious.
"Of course, it was... ah, Professor Dumbledore. I once sought his guidance!" Ivan almost slipped and quickly corrected himself.
His Non-Verbal Casting skills were actually learned from Voldemort's Horcrux Diary. Thanks to Tom Riddle's "generosity", he had progressed so quickly. However, the truth couldn't be revealed, so Ivan blamed it on Dumbledore.
"No wonder", Flitwick muttered. Anything involving Dumbledore seemed to make the impossible seem reasonable.
The only one who noticed something amiss was Snape. He knew Dumbledore didn't have the time to mentor students, and Ivan, with his many secrets, usually avoided Dumbledore.
Despite knowing this, Snape remained silent, acting as if he were invisible.
However, Ivan suddenly turned to him and said, "I remember, Professor Snape, that you created your own spell and improved potion formulas by fifth year, didn't you?"
"Um... yes", Snape hesitated, then nodded, puzzled about how Ivan knew this.
"Exactly. Every student has unlimited potential, and we must fully believe in them!" Ivan declared confidently.
