Chapter 928: This Isn't Fair!
Chapter 928: This Isn't Fair!
Kyle wasn't sure about the relationship between Voldemort and Harry, but he did notice something intriguing... Whenever these two got together, unusual things would happen.
For instance, when Harry encountered Voldemort, his first reaction wasn't to flee with his friends, but to hide and eavesdrop. Even when he realized he might be exposed, he continued to ignore the danger, as if his curiosity and recklessness were amplified infinitely.
This was quite an illogical behavior; it was as if his curiosity and recklessness were infinitely amplified.
Of course, this was just Kyle's perspective. If these actions were attributed to Harry, they might seem perfectly normal.
However, Voldemort's change was quite noticeable.
Firstly, after Harry's appearance, Voldemort's attention seemed to be instantly drawn to him, like two magnets attracting each other, locking onto each other.
When Kyle followed Harry out, he initially thought he had been exposed. It wasn't until they reached the entrance, and Voldemort walked straight past him without a glance, that Kyle realized he might be safe.
Voldemort didn't seem to notice his presence.
This was strange; his Invisibility Magic wasn't particularly remarkable. With Voldemort's abilities, a little attention and a careful look would have surely revealed the magical traces around him.
Yet, Voldemort didn't do that; his gaze remained fixed on Harry.
Additionally, the Erumpent, which he treated like a treasure, also seemed to have lost its appeal after meeting Harry. It was as if Voldemort had callously discarded it.
This was a real test for Kyle.
Kyle couldn't bear such a test. When Harry rescued Hermione, and everyone confronted Voldemort, Kyle promptly returned to the secret passage and found the Erumpent, abandoned by Voldemort, in the room at the other end.
When Kyle arrived, the Erumpent was drooling over the Malfoy family.
Lucius, Draco, and Narcissa... There were three people here, and the Erumpent had three heads, each the size of a broomstick. It just needed Voldemort's command, and it would have a feast.
Lucius and Draco Malfoy were terrified, trembling and curled up on the ground, afraid to even breathe. Their faces and lips were paler than the wall next to them.
"Squeak..."
A sharp sound broke the eerie silence in the room.
It was the sound of someone stepping on the wooden floor.
In the room, the Erumpent and the two people, all five pairs of eyes, looked almost simultaneously towards the direction of the sound.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." Kyle deactivated his magic, slowly revealing himself.
He had intended to launch a surprise attack, but he didn't expect the floor to creak when stepped on. He wasn't sure if Sirius had been careless or if this was a deliberate doorbell left by Sirius.
After all, if Harry were coming from Hogwarts, he would have to pass through here, and a sound would be a perfect reminder for Sirius.
But none of that mattered now.
Upon seeing the wizard enter, the Erumpent immediately straightened its body, and its three broomstick-sized heads opened their mouths simultaneously, revealing sharp fangs inside.
Among snake-related magical creatures, the Erumpent is one of the more well-known species, with a danger level of 4X, second only to the Longhorn Serpent and the Basilisk. It is one of the most dangerous snake-related magical creatures that wizards might encounter.
After all, the Longhorn Serpent and the Basilisk are not creatures that ordinary wizards can encounter.
Under normal circumstances, an Erumpent is about 6 to 7 feet long, but the one in front of them was clearly an unusual case.
Its head and body combined were already 20 feet long, and its body was thicker than an adult wizard's thigh.
An Erumpent of this size is rare, and even among 5X magical creatures, it would still rank high. As one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, it has its unique qualities.
Kyle waved his wand.
"Stupefy!"
The 20-foot-long Erumpent collided with the wall behind it and became still.
"Long time no see, Malfoys." Kyle looked at Lucius and Draco on the ground.
"It seems your loyalty hasn't earned Voldemort's favor. He prefers to turn you into pet snacks."
"Kyle..." Draco Malfoy managed to speak, but fear made it difficult for him to form a complete sentence, so he kept repeating,
"You promised me... You promised me..."
"It's not me, it's Professor Dumbledore..." Kyle glanced at him.
Draco Malfoy seemed to be at his wit's end.
"Well, I am here to fulfill his promise." Kyle shrugged and continued, "It's fortunate you managed to escape death. Otherwise, Professor Dumbledore would have to break his word."
Kyle pointed his wand forward, and the door immediately opened, the door in Hogsmeade.
The Death Eaters guarding the entrance immediately noticed the movement. Before they could react, a sharp, thick vine shot out from the wall of the nearby cafe, piercing through their chests.
Kyle stepped out of the room.
Perhaps due to its proximity to the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade had plenty of vines and plants, which provided Kyle with ample cover.
Soon, he returned.
"You can leave now." Kyle said, "Oh, and..."
He looked at Lucius and Narcissa, whom he was carrying, "Remember to visit the Ministry of Magic later and properly report what happened.
Don't try to cover it up with what happened over a decade ago, or I'll come after you."
Lucius Malfoy didn't speak, only looking deeply at Kyle before turning and leaving the room.
As a Death Eater, he was well aware that Voldemort had also stationed his followers here, and to gain control of all the shops more quickly, there were quite a few of them, a total of thirty Death Eaters.
But now, they were all dead.
If he remembered correctly, Kyle had only been gone for less than a few minutes.
Lucius cleared his throat, and if it weren't for the Cruciatus Curse that had emptied his stomach, he might have already vomited.
"What are you waiting for?" Kyle urged from behind, "Hurry up, Voldemort might return soon."
Lucius continued walking with heavy steps, the scent in the air making it hard for him to bear.
To be honest, he was also a bit unsure now, which one was more terrifying, Voldemort or Kyle.
Probably still Voldemort... after all, Kyle didn't want to kill them for the time being and let them live.
"I... will go to the Ministry of Magic," Lucius said in a hoarse voice, stopping in his tracks.
No matter what he had thought before, at least now... or at the moment he stepped out of this door, he really wanted to make up for the mistakes he had made.
"I'll speak for you," Kyle said with a smile, waving his wand in his hand. "After all, I'm friends with Draco."
Draco Malfoy shivered, and at this moment, he didn't even dare to lift his head.
"That snake..."
Lucius suddenly stopped and turned to say, "That snake is important to the Dark Lord... to Voldemort. You'd better find a way to kill it."
"Thanks for the reminder, I will," Kyle said.
At this moment, the stunned Erumpent also woke up.
First, the leftmost head opened its eyes, and then bit the other two heads.
The pain and venom dispelled the effects of the Stunning Spell, and before the Erumpent could fully stand up, three Fiendfyre flames coiled around its neck.
Then, the Fiendfyre tightened fiercely.
The red scales instantly turned into charred black... like cutting through butter with a hot knife, the Fiendfyre pierced through the Erumpent's body.
"Thud, thud, thud..."
The three heads fell to the floor one after the other.
Something seemed to ooze out of the severed head of the Erumpent, a twisted, dark, and viscous substance.
Kyle flicked his wand upwards, and the nearly extinguished Fiendfyre reignited, quickly attaching itself to the black substance.
The Fiendfyre was never picky, and in the blink of an eye, the black substance was burned to a crisp, leaving no trace behind.
As it disappeared, Kyle faintly heard a distant, agonizing scream coming from Voldemort's soul fragment.
But this voice was also consumed by the Fiendfyre.
It was all Voldemort's fault, leaving his Horcrux here to tempt him, how could he resist such a great temptation?
Kyle flicked his wand and prepared to pick up the Erumpent's head from the floor.
But as he walked over, his heart suddenly tightened, as if something terrifying was staring at him.
Hmm... who cares, it's not the first time anyway.
Kyle walked over, picked up one of the Erumpent's heads, and then turned back to the secret passage behind him.
At the same time, at Hogwarts Grounds...
The sudden turn of events on the battlefield surprised everyone, and they couldn't understand why Voldemort suddenly fell to the ground, as if he was in extreme pain.
An ambush?
But who could ambush Voldemort?
The Death Eaters took this matter more seriously than the others. Barty Crouch Jr. wanted to step forward and ask, but he was also blocked by the Magical Lava.
His proud identity as an Inner Circle Death Eater was completely useless at this moment.
Scrimgeour's eyes lit up.
Although he didn't know what had happened to Voldemort, this was an opportunity for them... a chance to kill Voldemort.
"Avada Kedavra!" A green light shot straight towards Voldemort.
The Aurors never hesitated to use the Unforgivable Curses, especially when facing Death Eaters. From the day they started the war, Death Eaters were no longer protected by the Wizard Law.
Not to mention Voldemort.
However, Barty Crouch Jr. was also quick to react, using his wand to send a Death Eater flying in front of him, blocking the Killing Curse.
A green light flashed, and the Death Eater, who didn't understand what was happening, was killed instantly by the Killing Curse.
Voldemort also raised his head from the lava.
He glanced at Barty Crouch Jr. indifferently, showing no praise or appreciation for his actions.
He pointed his wand at the passage that had just appeared and shot a Killing Curse more powerful than Scrimgeour's.
At the same time, he waved his other hand forcefully.
The lava on the ground seemed to come alive, and a huge, fiery red hand quickly emerged from below, grabbing the immobile Scrimgeour.
"Ah!" The cry echoed through the air above Hogwarts.
And in the secret passage.
Kyle hadn't fully emerged yet when he saw a powerful Killing Curse blocking his path.
Voldemort seemed to have been waiting for him.
Fortunately, Kyle had also anticipated his intentions, and the Phoenix on his shoulder spread its wings, using Apparition to bring Kyle from the secret passage to Hogwarts.
A flash of firelight, and Kyle appeared in front of Voldemort.
At such a close distance, Voldemort naturally saw the snake head in Kyle's hand.
His eyes turned completely red, and he opened his mouth to let out an angry shout.
"You... Unforgivable!"
Voldemort's anger burned as he pointed his wand at Kyle, reigniting the war in an instant.
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Sectumsempra!"
The two spells met in midair, surprising everyone as they seemed to hold each other in a stalemate.
Voldemort, the undefeated, had drawn even with Kyle in a duel of spells.
No one dared believe this could happen, and even Chris rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
He thought his eyes were playing tricks on him... but this was Voldemort.
Kyle, however, wasn't as surprised.
From the start, he sensed that Voldemort's aura, though still dangerous, wasn't as terrifying as before... It was even less intimidating than when they were in the Hebrides Islands.
"Looks like getting injured multiple times in a short span isn't pleasant for you either, right?" Kyle watched Voldemort and with a swift upward motion, his empty left hand signaled a change.
A stone spike rose from beneath Voldemort's feet.
"Dual-casting..."
"Wandless magic..."
Professors McGonagall and Flitwick exclaimed simultaneously, their eyes wide with disbelief.
Despite being a simple Transfiguration spell, casting another spell while dueling was impressive enough.
Even at Hogwarts, Professor Flitwick's ability to do this was remarkable, though its practical use was limited.
In essence, it was a challenging dueling technique, but its real-world application was minimal.
It was only useful when two wizards were evenly matched, providing an element of surprise.
The gap between Voldemort and Kyle was significant, but Kyle's injuries were a factor.
The sharp stone spike pierced Voldemort's foot, then viciously penetrated his calf.
Voldemort's hand trembled with pain... His magical connection wavered.
The once stable magic suddenly lost its equilibrium, slamming into Voldemort's body.
"Ding..."
A crisp sound reverberated in the arena.
Voldemort's magic, aimed at Kyle, was blocked by a small silver shield, the same magic he had used against Dumbledore in the Ministry of Magic."
Kyle was slightly disappointed but had expected this.
Then, a gray light flashed from the side.
"Ding..."
A similar silver shield appeared before Kyle, adorned with intricate runes, making it more exquisite than Voldemort's plain shield.
"You... stole my magic!" Voldemort's eyes reddened, and various Dark Arts spells bombarded Kyle without restraint.
He felt a sense of injustice.
Kyle had stolen his basilisk, and now his magic. How could a wizard like this gain Dumbledore's favor, become a teacher at Hogwarts, while he couldn't? It wasn't fair!
"Don't talk nonsense. Who stole your magic?" Kyle deflected Voldemort's relentless attacks, saying, "This is genuine ancient magic, learned from Merlin himself, not some trick from a Slytherin."
The ancient Iron Body Charm was learned from an ancient letter on his 17th birthday, a gift from Merlin to his students.
So, it had nothing to do with Voldemort, though Kyle might have subconsciously adopted the shield's form while learning.
"Fine, if you don't like it, I'll change it." Kyle muttered under his breath.
Although deflecting Voldemort's spells was becoming overwhelming, Kyle seized the opportunity to quickly transform the Knight Shield into a Round Shield, shouting, "Is this better?"
Voldemort gritted his teeth, wishing he could Avada Kedavra Kyle.
But his anger caused his spells to veer off course, and a Corrosive Spell landed a few feet away from Kyle, almost missing him entirely.
Kyle seized the momentary respite.
No wonder it was Voldemort.
Hit by Dumbledore's spells twice, burned by Fiendfyre once, and now with a Horcrux destroyed, his soul affected, yet he remained formidable.
Kyle even suspected that if he hadn't inadvertently damaged Voldemort's soul, Voldemort could have killed everyone despite his injuries.
Direct combat seemed impossible; Kyle needed another strategy.
Kyle threw an Erumpent head to distract Voldemort momentarily, then seized the opportunity to discreetly toss a round object into the fray, blending it with his spells.
"Foolishness!"
Voldemort didn't seem to notice, or perhaps he did but didn't care.
The vast power gap rendered Kyle's tactics insignificant; Voldemort wasn't concerned with his schemes.
Voldemort admitted he had underestimated Kyle, and his soul's injury, combined with the pain from the stone spike and Kyle's taunts, had caused his spells to falter, giving Kyle a brief respite.
Voldemort was confident this situation wouldn't repeat. He waved his wand as before, intending to deflect Kyle's magic and deliver a final blow.
Impatient with the tedious combat, Voldemort casually used magic to bat away Kyle's incoming spells and shouted, "Avada..."
"Boom!"
A muffled explosion followed as the small ball, touched by Voldemort's spell, detonated.
A yellowish-green liquid splashed towards Voldemort, emitting an unbearable stench, and splattered across his face.
