Chapter 927: Magic Studies and Practice
Chapter 927: Magic Studies and Practice
"Let's not forget, my spell knowledge was taught by you", Ivan replied with a flattering tone.
Professor Flitwick chuckled with a self-satisfied smile.
At the magic podium, the last of the First-years completed the Sorting to a round of applause. Professor Mcgonagall raised her right hand, retrieved the Sorting Hat, and then cleared her throat before addressing the gathered students.
"Before we begin the dinner, I have some important announcements to make."
"Unfortunately, the Ministry of Magic has yet to find a suitable Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, so the course will be temporarily suspended this year..."
"However, we are fortunate to welcome a new professor who will teach you some defensive techniques in his classes—"
As she spoke, Mcgonagall turned to look at Ivan. "I believe that students in the second year and above are already familiar with our new professor. He is Ivan Hals, who graduated from Hogwarts with exceptional grades last year. He will now be taking on the role of Professor of Magic Studies and Practice!"
Ivan gracefully stood up from his seat, nodding to the young wizards below.
A particularly enthusiastic round of applause erupted in the Great Hall, with the four Houses unanimously showing their welcome. This was a level of reception no other new professor had ever received.
Some of the First-years, however, looked puzzled, as the new professor appeared quite young. They had initially assumed he was a prefect or perhaps the Head Boy.
"Is that our new professor? He doesn't look much older than us..." a First-year from a Muggle family asked curiously.
"Goodness, you don't even know who Hals is?" a high-year warlock exclaimed in disbelief. "Didn't you read the newspapers before coming to school? He is the most talented wizard in Hogwarts history... and a recipient of the Order of Merlin, First Class!"
The warlock enthusiastically shared Ivan's legendary feats with the First-years, such as how he had used magic to subdue a powerful Troll and Dragon, and how he had moved freely among the Merpeople of the Black Lake, even making the front page of the Daily Prophet for an entire month...
"He also defeated the Dark Lord!" a young wizard who had been part of Dumbledore's Army added excitedly. "I saw the memory. When Potter was about to be killed by the Dark Lord, Hals saved him and then helped Headmaster Dumbledore defeat the Dark Lord!"
"I bet the Dark Lord's death was also Hals' doing. My mom says it would be strange if the Ministry of Magic's Aurors could solve it... they're only good for collecting their salaries."
As the older students recounted Ivan Hals' remarkable achievements, the First-years began to understand why he had become a professor at Hogwarts at the age of sixteen. His experiences were truly legendary!
One particularly excited Ravenclaw witch went even further, claiming that the carriages at Hogwarts navigated automatically because Ivan Hals was secretly casting spells to guide them... and she was almost ready to say that the lake monsters in the Black Lake were also put there by Ivan.
"It’s Thestrals pulling the carriages!" A ethereal voice interrupted their conversation.
"When I first came to the school, the carriages were already moving on their own. This definitely isn’t Ivan’s magic", Luna said, looking at the others with a serious expression.
The first-years glanced at Luna and then at the Ravenclaw witch, unsure who was right.
The witch was taken aback by Luna’s words and was momentarily at a loss for a rebuttal. However, she was unwilling to admit defeat and stubbornly retorted, "Don’t listen to this crazy girl. She even claims that there are Crumple-Horned Snorkacks and Nargles in the world."
"It’s Crumple-Horned Snorkack!" Luna corrected her, then pulled a transparent glass bottle from her bag and showed it to everyone.
"See, here it is! We found it together in the Forbidden Forest!"
Seeing the pure white, bizarre creature with a pair of large, curved horns in the glass bottle, the witch was stunned. Could it be true that Crumple-Horned Snorkacks and Nargles were real, just undiscovered magical creatures?
"Last year, I submitted an application to the Ministry of Magic to include the Crumple-Horned Snorkack in the Compendium of Magical Creatures. This summer, the Ministry agreed to my request, and it should be featured in the Daily Prophet in the next few days", Luna said excitedly.
Moreover, the Ministry of Magic had not changed the name she had given this magical creature; it was still called the Crumple-Horned Snorkack!
The Opening Ceremony for the new term quickly concluded amidst the excited chatter of the young wizards. Ivan bid farewell to the professors and, led by a house-elf, made his way to his bedroom.
The room was much larger than Ivan had expected, complete with a storeroom, bookshelves, and a bathtub big enough to swim in.
At first, Ivan thought this was a special favor for him, but then he realized that the prefects of each house had their own rooms with private bathrooms, so the professors’ accommodations would naturally be even better.
"Master, is there anything else you need?" the house-elf asked in a high-pitched voice.
"No, thank you!" Ivan placed his suitcase on the table and thanked the house-elf.
However, the house-elf seemed almost terrified by Ivan’s gratitude and vanished with a loud "pop."
Ivan shook his head; it seemed that completing the Elf Army quest would not be easy. These house-elves were set in their ways and stuck to their principles.
Moreover, he learned from Pierce that the house-elves were loyal to Hogwarts, meaning that even if he became headmaster, he couldn’t immediately complete the quest.
Ivan felt quite troubled but quickly adjusted his emotions. He needed five Legend Points to activate Protection Mode, and there was no point in rushing.
...
The next morning, Ivan woke up on time. After a quick wash, he picked up the schedule on the table and took a look.
Considering that the International Wizards' Federation might send a message at any time, the course quest schedule was quite flexible. There were only ten Magic Studies and Practice classes for all seven years combined each week. Ivan planned to spend his free time in the Restricted Section, reading advanced magic books to expand his knowledge.
However, he did have a class this morning, and it was for sixth-years. Seeing this, Ivan put away the schedule and quickened his pace. He didn’t want to be late for his first class.
