Chapter 922: Wizards' Constitutions Cannot Be Generalized
Chapter 922: Wizards' Constitutions Cannot Be Generalized
So you’re still alive? Ollivander looked at Ivan with great surprise, nearly blurting out his thoughts.
Grindelwald was a legendary Dark Wizard, known for ages, and with the Elder Wand in his possession, his power was unimaginable. For Ivan to claim he could face Grindelwald was more than enough to shock him.
Ivan noticed Ollivander’s surprise but didn’t bother to explain further. Instead, he continued, "It seems you know something about the Elder Wand?"
"No, I’ve only heard a few legends about it..." Ollivander shook his head and replied.
Ivan gave Ollivander a skeptical look; he didn’t believe it was as simple as Ollivander claimed.
Ollivander felt uncomfortable under Ivan’s gaze and finally said with a bitter smile, "Alright, I admit that I had some interest in the wand in my younger days. My wand-making skills had reached a plateau long ago, so I wanted to find the Elder Wand to study it."
"Unfortunately, I scoured the historical records and couldn’t find its whereabouts. I only confirmed from various accounts that the wand was real... There’s also an unverified rumor that the Elder Wand once belonged to the wandmaker Gregorovitch."
"That’s all I know, and I’m not hiding anything from you", Ollivander said honestly.
Ivan nodded. Under the influence of Legilimency, Ollivander couldn’t lie, and in the original timeline, this British wand-making expert indeed knew nothing about the Deathly Hallows, only studying some historical records of the Elder Wand.
"If you’re here to ask me to create a weapon that can match the Elder Wand, I have to say I’m sorry, but I can’t do it." Ollivander spoke directly, even though he was confident, he wouldn’t claim that a wand he made could rival the legendary Elder Wand, which granted its master invincibility.
"Why? I believe the Elder Wand was made by wizards, and it can’t really be as mythical as the legends suggest, involving Death?" Ivan questioned.
"Of course, there’s no such thing as Death. I suspect the wizard who made the Elder Wand used some long-lost alchemical techniques. Moreover, the wizarding world a thousand years ago was vastly different from today. Many rare magical materials were easily available, but now, many magical creatures are nearly extinct", Ollivander sighed.
"So it seems the wizarding world has indeed declined over the generations..." Ivan shook his head in frustration. It wasn’t just wands; magical items like Time-Turners were also irreplaceable, and ordinary alchemy couldn’t repair them.
"But that’s not entirely true. The wizarding world has always progressed, but we no longer need those unstable forces", Ollivander said slowly, though his words carried a hint of regret.
Suddenly, Ollivander seemed to have an idea and looked at Ivan hopefully. "If... you could somehow steal the wand and let me study it, I might be able to uncover its secrets."
Ivan rolled his eyes. If I could steal the Elder Wand from Grindelwald, why would I need you?
"I can’t bring you the Elder Wand, but I have a new wand material that is definitely more powerful than any core you’ve ever used!" Ivan said confidently.
"New materials? I should mention that not everything with Magic is suitable to be a wand core..." Ollivander said doubtfully, not holding much hope for what Ivan was about to show him.
While his wand shop generally only sold wands with Unicorn Hair, Phoenix Feather, and Dragon Heartstring cores, he had, in fact, tried almost every material that could be used as a wand core to improve his craft. These three substances were the most stable and compatible with the majority of Wizards.
"You can try it yourself, Master Ollivander!" Ivan reached into his sleeve and pulled out the Ebony wand he had previously made.
Ollivander took it and examined it closely. On the surface, the wand appeared ordinary, even somewhat crude, and by his standards, it would never be sold.
However, with Ivan watching closely, Ollivander couldn't be too casual. He immediately began a serious appraisal, his long, slender fingers gently sweeping over the wand's surface, and a fine Magic Lumos spell appeared on the wand.
After a moment of careful inspection, Ollivander's initially nonchalant expression gradually turned serious. He paused, then held the wand out in front of him, aiming it at the experimental target on the left and cautiously cast a spell.
"Diffindo!"
A brilliant spell beam flashed through the air. The basic spell, amplified by the wand, was unexpectedly powerful, shattering the target into pieces.
"Strange... truly strange..." Ollivander's brows furrowed. "The wood is Ebony, twelve and a quarter inches long, but the wand core... is Phoenix Feather? No, no! I also sensed a cold Magic, it must... it must belong to a Basilisk..."
"And there's Dragon Heartstring..."
Ollivander wandered around the Alchemy Room, muttering to himself, his eyes fixed on the wand in his hand. He seemed to have forgotten about Ivan entirely.
"Stop guessing, the wand core is my hair!" Ivan saw that Ollivander was getting nowhere and decided to reveal the answer.
"Nonsense!" Ollivander exclaimed, his eyes wide. "While Wizards are Magic beings, their hair contains very weak Magic, far less potent than that of powerful Magical Creatures. Using it to make a wand would result in a very weak wand..."
"Moreover, I sensed the characteristics of several Magical Creatures in this wand. You must have combined several wand cores using some method..." Ollivander spoke excitedly, but before Ivan could respond, he contradicted himself nervously. "No, that's not right. If that were the case, the wand would have exploded due to Magic conflict long ago..."
"Wizards' constitutions cannot be generalized, Master Ollivander! And the wonders of Magic far exceed your imagination." Ivan took the wand from Ollivander's hand and, right in front of him, snapped it in two. Inside was a hair dyed red by blood.
"This... this is impossible!" Ollivander was stunned, his right hand trembling as he pulled the hair from the broken wand and examined it closely. Suddenly, he looked up at Ivan with a burning gaze, as if he were looking at a treasure.
