Chapter 922: Collaboration
Chapter 922: Collaboration
Off the coast, deep beneath the sea, a submarine from the Gallium Syndicate remained stationed. Inside, a syndicate soldier reported to Eiko.
"Sir, we still haven't received any communication today."
"I know," Eiko responded with a dismissive wave, her spirits visibly low.
They had been on standby for several days now, and yet, they had no idea about the progress of their mission or even if it was still ongoing. A few days ago, Kaiba Corporation had taken over the case, effectively sidelining the syndicate. Professor Cobalt, their primary target, had been exposed and was seemingly dealt with by the Duel King himself. The syndicate's original purpose, which was to deal with Professor Cobalt, had become irrelevant.
Moreover, the situation had escalated to the point where even Kaiba Corporation was involved, leaving little for the syndicate to do. Despite this, they had not received any orders to withdraw, and it had been days since they last received any communication at all.
Their primary role was to support Ammon, who was in charge of gathering intelligence and executing the mission. He was also responsible for directing operations and notifying them when to engage.
However, the current problem was that their leader seemed to have gone offline—a situation Eiko had never encountered in all her years of working with Ammon.
Ammon, the syndicate's secret ace agent, had always prioritized the syndicate's interests and was at the forefront of every operation. He consistently made the best decisions and issued the most precise orders.
But this time, Eiko felt that Ammon seemed to have lost interest in the mission. No, it was as if the entire syndicate no longer mattered to him.
She couldn't even be sure if he was still carrying out the mission.
Lately, Ammon had become increasingly difficult to contact, and as far as Eiko knew, he seemed to be spending extensive periods of time with the Duel King. They would lock themselves in a room for half a day, engaging in activities she couldn't quite fathom.
For the first time ever, Eiko, who knew Ammon better than anyone, began to have doubts.
"Could it be that the young master has been lured away from the syndicate?" she wondered.
At that moment, Yubel was staring at You Xuan with an odd expression.
"Can you please stop staring at me like that?" Yubel asked.
You Xuan nonchalantly replied, "What's wrong with looking? Don't be so stingy."
Yubel: "Didn't you know that it's impolite to stare at a lady?"
You Xuan: "Are you even a lady?"
Yubel: ". . ."
"To be honest, that's always been my question," You Xuan shrugged. "Besides, I'm not looking at your body; I'm just studying your cards."
Yubel: "But that is my body."
"I've already conducted the tests you requested, and you've collected all the data you need. What more do you want?" Yubel asked, sounding unhappy.
Yubel began to suspect that she had been deceived. Perhaps this guy never intended to introduce her to Shidai and had only charmed her into working for him with ulterior motives. However, she quickly dismissed this thought as baseless.
After all, she had genuinely lost the duel. If he wanted to, he could easily overpower her without any sweet talk, and she wouldn't have been able to resist.
But he hadn't done that.
"What do you really want?" Yubel asked, her voice laced with frustration.
Yu Xuan casually replied, "Nothing much, just checking if your evolution is going well."
Yubel: "!"
"I'm talking about your cards," Yu Xuan clarified with a smile.
"Have you ever considered that perhaps your evolutionary path is inherently distorted?" Yu Xuan continued.
"Maybe Phase 2 and Phase 3 aren't your correct evolutionary paths at all. Perhaps you're a creation of some external corruption, an abomination born from interference."
Yubel frowned, "I don't understand what you're saying."
Yu Xuan rested his chin in his hand and studied her for a moment.
Yubel didn't seem to realize that she was possessed by the Extinction Light, or so it appeared.
