Chapter 921: Ollivanders Wand Shop
Chapter 921: Ollivanders Wand Shop
On Saturday afternoon, inside the wand shop on Diagon Alley, Ollivander was sitting behind a long table, reading the latest issue of the Daily Prophet.
Suddenly, a tinkling bell sound came from the door, and Ollivander instinctively looked up, saying, "Welcome to Ollivanders Wand Shop..."
"Oh, Hals, what a rare visitor! What brings you to my shop today?" Recognizing the visitor, Ollivander’s face instantly broke into a smile. He warmly walked out from behind the long table and casually set aside the Daily Prophet.
"I was just reading about you. After a thousand years, you are the first student to graduate early from Hogwarts. This will surely be recorded in history", Ollivander said with a touch of nostalgia.
"Thank you, Mr. Ollivander! In fact, many talented wizards have the ability to graduate early from Hogwarts, such as Headmaster Dumbledore or Voldemort... They usually choose to continue their studies, though", Ivan said humbly.
"Yes, but they possess extraordinary talents and are all legendary wizards whose names are etched in British history... Of course, I believe you are no exception, Hals." Ollivander gazed at the young warlock before him, his thoughts drifting. "I still remember the day six years ago when you chose your wand here. It feels like it was just yesterday..."
"Yew and unicorn hair, a truly remarkable combination. They are opposites yet complement each other's weaknesses. From that moment, I knew you would achieve something extraordinary!"
"Keep in mind, a yew wand never chooses an ordinary or cowardly master. Their masters are usually either heroes or demons!" Ollivander added, his words carrying a deeper meaning.
The Dark Lord's wand was made of yew, paired with a phoenix feather, making it easy to perform powerful magic. However, its extreme nature also suggests that the wand's master is likely to walk a dark path.
Ivan Hals’s wand, on the other hand, is even more unique. Its core is a unicorn hair, symbolizing loyalty and justice, which balances the unique magic of the yew. This makes the wand a dual-natured entity, capable of leading its wielder to either heroism or villainy, all depending on the user's choice.
Ivan touched his nose, suspecting that the crafty Ollivander might have guessed something from the recent bizarre events.
However, Ivan also knew that Ollivander was not a rigid person. On the contrary, he didn’t care whether the user of his wands was good or evil; he only cared if they were famous enough to be a testament to his wand-making skills.
With this in mind, Ivan cleared his throat and changed the subject. "Mr. Ollivander, could we talk privately? I have something very important to discuss with you..."
"Follow me, let’s talk inside." Ollivander nodded. Although Ivan’s action of closing the door without permission was slightly impolite, he wisely pretended not to notice.
The two entered the alchemy room at the back. Ivan looked around, and the space seemed unusually large, likely due to an expansion charm. The table was cluttered with various alchemical tools, and the cabinets lining the walls were filled with long, narrow boxes, almost reaching the ceiling.
"Speak up, Mr. Hals. What brings you here this time? Could it be that your wand has been damaged and needs my repair?" Ollivander asked curiously.
"Not at all. I've always taken good care of it, but I suspect it may no longer be suitable for me..." Ivan said slowly.
"Why do you say that?" Ollivander's brow furrowed, a hint of displeasure in his voice. Ivan's words were undoubtedly challenging his beliefs. "The yew wand was chosen by you yourself; it is absolutely the best fit for you!"
Ivan silently thought to himself that it wasn't him who had chosen the wand. He remembered that in his first year, the System's display showed the wand's compatibility at only around seventy percent. If not for the accidental fusion with a unicorn's bloodline, he would have replaced the yew wand long ago.
However, this secret Ivan couldn't reveal. So he said, "Because my opponent possesses an incredibly powerful wand. To defeat him, I need to replace mine with one of equal strength."
Ivan felt a bit helpless as he spoke. In the past, he had always relied on various alchemical equipment to boost his combat power and overwhelm his enemies. This time, he experienced the frustration of being outmatched in equipment.
"I must warn you, Hals. The most important aspect of a wand is not its power but its compatibility with its master. Only then can a wizard fully harness its power. A powerful but mismatched wand can make a wizard lose a duel..."
Ollivander earnestly tried to dissuade Ivan from replacing his wand, then continued with a hint of pride.
"Ollivanders Wand Shop has been in business for over two thousand years. Our wand-making skills are the best in the world. Every wand I sell may have its own strengths, but none are inferior in overall capability to any other wandmaker's creations..."
"Is that so? What about the Elder Wand?" Ivan suddenly interrupted Ollivander.
"What?" Ollivander was taken aback for a moment.
"The Elder Wand! You can also call it the Wand of Death or the Wand of Destiny..." Ivan emphasized.
"You mean the wand from British legend that grants its master invincibility in battle?" Ollivander looked at Ivan in surprise.
"We should all know that it's more than just a legend!" Ivan raised his voice. "It truly exists, and it is now in the hands of a dangerous individual!"
Ollivander paused, then slowly replied, "You mean Gellert Grindelwald?"
There were few people Ivan would describe as dangerous, and the most likely candidate was Grindelwald, who had recently caused a stir by escaping from prison. The Dark Lord who had once plunged all of Europe into chaos!
"Exactly! He is attempting to incite conflict between wizards and Muggles!" Ivan stated succinctly. "I recently engaged him in battle and was deeply impressed by the power of that wand. It far surpasses the capabilities of my yew wand!"
