Chapter 92: The Reunion (Part 2)
Chapter 92: The Reunion (Part 2)
September 25, 2017
"Oh no, it's her!"
As Lu HaiKong saw the message from the slender-figured knight, his face paled, and he nearly fell from the arrow tower. The reason was simple—he knew this girl.
This young lass was none other than Zhao Yue'er, the same girl who had stolen his buns during his first outing and dragged him to raid the mountain fortress. Despite her cute and adorable appearance, she was a tenacious battle maniac whose fighting style was brutally chaotic.
Although their previous encounter was brief, Yue'er had left a deep impression on Lu HaiKong. The contrasting charm of her cute appearance and brutal fighting style was indeed eye-catching.
"Why can't I see any information about this girl except for her name?"
Lu HaiKong crouched on the arrow tower, hiding even more cautiously than before. He had no intention of going down to stage a heartwarming reunion with Yue'er; instead, he watched with interest as Yue'er fought against a warrior wielding a great saber with a strength of 61 points.
Perhaps due to Lu HaiKong's strength not exceeding 60 points, he could only see the names and strength values of those with 60 points or more. Other details, such as their skills, remained hidden to him. For instance, even with the use of reconnaissance skills, he could only glean a tiny bit of information about the bandit chief.
Zhao Ergou
Bandit Chief
Attributes:
Strength: 61, Politics: 10, Strategy: 10, Command: 25
Although a strength of 61 points was not as impressive as Gao Shun's, it was still slightly stronger than Hu Yinxiong's. As Lu HaiKong watched the battle between Zhao Ergou and Yue'er, he couldn't help but worry about Yue'er. After all, she had struggled even against an opponent with a strength of around 30 points during their last encounter.
Could she possibly defeat such a powerful opponent this time? Lu HaiKong was concerned that she might be killed in the fight.
As it turned out, Lu HaiKong's worries were somewhat unfounded. He soon discovered that Yue'er's abilities had improved dramatically since their last meeting. She wielded her spear like a venomous snake, each attack swift, precise, and ruthless, making for an exciting clash with Zhao Ergou.
Lu HaiKong was amazed by Yue'er's rapid progress, but he also relaxed a little, enjoying the spectacle of two obviously skilled warriors with strength above 60 points dueling.
However, Lu HaiKong's relief was short-lived, and he soon found himself worried again. Yue'er's desperate and brutal fighting style resurfaced once more.
Initially, Yue'er fought with discipline and precision, leading Lu HaiKong to believe she had changed. But after only a few exchanges, her true nature was revealed again, and her heart-stopping, thrill-inducing fighting style returned.
Brutal, desperate, and perilous—every second felt like dancing on the edge of a knife, a thrilling sensation.
To be honest, Lu HaiKong had faced various battles over the past half a month and encountered several crises himself. He had become accustomed to the dangers he faced, but watching Yue'er fight filled him with a sense of overwhelming dread, as if his heart might stop at any moment.
Especially when Yue'er narrowly avoided her opponent's blade by mere centimeters, Lu HaiKong felt his scalp go numb.
It wasn't that Lu HaiKong had taken a liking to Yue Er or anything; people have their preferences when it comes to beautiful things. No one could bear to see a cute and adorable girl like Yue Er get sliced in half by Zhao Ergou's massive guan dao.
As Lu HaiKong's heart clenched with worry, the battle between Yue Er and Zhao Ergou was finally drawing to a close.
Zhao Ergou was indeed powerful, but Yue Er was even stronger. Under her relentless attacks, the arrow tower quickly became her advantage, forcing Zhao Ergou into a steady retreat. Just as victory seemed within reach, Lu HaiKong suddenly noticed Zhao Ergou pulling back his guan dao and shifting his weight as if preparing a powerful move. Yue Er, however, seemed unaware of this.
Lu HaiKong's eyebrows furrowed, and on a whim, he nocked an arrow and fired with precision into the gap between Yue Er and Zhao Ergou, striking Zhao Ergou's throat and ending his life. This left Yue Er, who had planned to fight him for three hundred rounds, completely bewildered, as she hadn't even unleashed her ultimate move yet.
"Congratulations on defeating the bandit chief, Zhao Ergou. You've earned 200 points of allocable skill experience."
As the system message popped up, Lu HaiKong was momentarily stunned before realizing what he had done. He might have, perhaps, accidentally, stolen Yue Er's kill.
"Damn it! Let's get out of here quickly! If this witch finds out, I'm done for!"
Lu HaiKong quickly reacted, just as he was about to leap down from the arrow tower to escape, he noticed that Yue Er, who had been bewildered moments ago, was now leading fifty riders in an intimidating encirclement below. "Who dares to steal the monster I was fighting?!"
Looking down at the fifty or so cavalrymen surrounding him, Lu HaiKong wished he could find a place to hide, but the arrow tower was so small. Where could he possibly go? Seeing Yue Er's furious face, as if she was about to tear down the tower, Lu HaiKong had no choice but to stick his head out, managing a smile that looked worse than crying. "Sister, long time no see!"
In the 16th chapter of the first volume of the novel, Lu HaiKong's head popped out from the arrow tower.
Yue Er, seeing Lu HaiKong's handsome face with a slight apologetic smile, was taken aback. Her bright eyes seemed to sparkle with joy, but her words were filled with annoyance. "You've got some nerve, Lu HaiKong! Hiding up there instead of greeting me when I arrived, and now you steal my kill. Get down here, or I'll beat you up!"
"Sister, I just wanted to help, not steal your kill. I didn't mean to shoot him in the neck," Lu HaiKong explained.
Damn, if you can't even shoot straight, why interfere? What if you had hit the cute girl instead?
Sure enough, Yue Er's face darkened instantly. "I hate it when people interfere in my battles. Get down here, or I'll beat you up!"
Fine, it seems neither of them can stay focused on what's important.
After some thought, Lu HaiKong figured he might as well face the music. He'd have to go down eventually, and it was just a beating, so he cautiously climbed down.
In reality, Yue Er wasn't a bad person; well, her personality wasn't bad. She was cheerful and laid-back, which contrasted sharply with her appearance, but she was actually quite nice.
Even though Lu HaiKong had only met Yue Er once before, and had stolen her monster this time, she didn't seem too angry.
