Chapter 92: Lanchi's Aptitude Type
Chapter 92: Lanchi's Aptitude Type
Lanchi followed Talia into her bedroom. A floor lamp by the bed illuminated the room with a soft glow, reflecting off the white walls and making the space seem more spacious and bright.
Standing by the door, Lanchi noticed a oak cabinet filled with sealed meal boxes. Through the transparent lids, he could see various small treats such as cream puffs, cheese pastries, and mango pancakes—seemingly desserts to accompany her meals throughout the day.
Before Lanchi could even process his thoughts, he felt Talia's murderous gaze upon him.
"Don't stare."
It seemed that she didn't want him to see these sweets, which seemed out of character for her.
Talia took out a small suitcase from under her bed. With a click of the metal latches, she opened it to reveal a set of advanced portable card-making tools. She then retrieved some card-making materials from a storage cabinet.
"Sit down."
She gestured to a desk on one side of the bedroom, indicating for Lanchi to take a seat.
Talia herself sat on the other side of the long desk, on the edge of her bed.
"Now, I'm going to make some of the most basic first-order magic half-product cards. I'll teach you a general spell principle, and all you need to do is complete a very simple step, which I will then complement. The degree of completion will give us an indication of your affinity with this type of magic."
As Talia spoke, she began to work, picking up some of the card-making tools.
"Well, what if I blow up the card by accident?"
Lanchi had already started looking around the room for fire safety equipment.
He had no idea what would happen if he blew up Talia's bedroom, and he needed to consider the people downstairs as well.
"You try it."
Talia looked up, her eyes as bright as the cold moon, fixing her gaze on Lanchi.
Lanchi felt a chill down his spine, sensing that Talia meant business this time.
"...I won't blow up the card."
Lanchi assured her, his grip on the card-making tools tightening slightly.
Despite Talia's stern demeanor, Lanchi maintained his respect for the elderly, and he would always be polite to a lady, especially one who was several hundred years old.
Talia then ignored him temporarily and focused on her preparations.
This was how demons treated their apprentices. If she was going to teach him, she would do it properly.
Although Talia didn't have much experience as a teacher, she felt that teaching Lanchi, a human-demon hybrid, in this way would be appropriate.
Ever since Lanchi first tried card-making, she had been observing him, understanding his issues and how to mold his talent into that of an excellent card maker.
The biggest problem with this rich young man was—
Aside from his unusual talent for blowing up magic cards, his previous card-making state had always been too loose, which was abnormal.
While it was admirable to be relaxed while crafting cards, something most card makers could only dream of, maintaining this state permanently would lead Lanchi into a different pitfall—being too laid-back, resulting in consistently low success rates.
In Talia's opinion, the main factors influencing the card-making state were the challenge level and card-making skills. If the challenge was too high, the card maker would feel anxious or frustrated due to a lack of control over themselves and the magic cards. On the other hand, if the challenge was too low, the card maker would lose interest and become too casual, treating card making with indifference.
The ideal card-making state of "complete immersion" occurred when there was a balance between the challenge level and the card maker's skills.
Because Lanchi always preferred a stress-free state where his skills and talents exceeded the challenge, it indirectly led to him being nonchalant about blowing up cards as well.
And so, Talia began to train Lanchi in the ways of the Demon Tribe—a style that demanded perfection, and where failure resulted in death, or something beyond it. This extreme method pushed Lanchi's card-making state to the brink, forcing him into a state of balance.
Talia held up the first [Mental] magic half-product card that she had prepared, showing it to Lanchi.
"I've already inscribed for you the most basic mental influence magic structure. You need to embed an additional formula in the array, which can be understood as a supplement or a magical identification, thereby increasing directivity or friend-foe authentication."
As Talia taught, she demonstrated how to complete the card before Lanchi,
"This card is just for demonstration. From now on, you will complete each and every one of them."
Lanchi nodded solemnly.
Talia's gentle and patient explanation was based on the premise that he would absolutely follow her instructions and orders.
If he made even the slightest mistake, he estimated that he would be done for.
At the same time.
Lanchi gradually realized the true essence of the Demon Tribe's teaching method that he had not fully grasped back at the Demon Academy—
To push students to their limits under extreme pressure, bringing them to the brink of life and death to unleash their potential.
If he ever needed to guide other students at his own school or elsewhere in the future, he could definitely make use of this method.
Lanchi was confident that his abilities as a principal had become even more refined.
Next.
The room fell silent.
They ceased all communication, focusing solely on their tasks at hand. Yet, despite the lack of words, there was an unspoken understanding between them as they exchanged cards.
When one devotes their full attention to a task, they lose track of their surroundings and time, and gain a heightened sense of satisfaction, enjoyment, and immersion.
Talia occasionally glanced at Lanchi, confirming that his card-making state had indeed changed from before.
It seemed that she would have to keep a close eye on him during their lessons from now on.
...
Outside the room, the sky underwent a subtle transformation.
The bright morning sky was now covered in a faint orange-red hue, and the clouds looked like burning torches in the sunset.
The horizon gradually changed from azure to violet, then turned into a deep cerulean.
The sun slowly sank below the horizon, finally disappearing beyond the line, leaving behind a dusky twilight.
They continued to craft cards deep into the night.
And at that moment, in Talia's room.
Accompanied by soft breathing.
Lanchi had dozed off, his head resting on the table, his face as carefree as a sleeping infant's.
Perhaps due to his intense focus or the immense pressure from Talia that kept him on edge, he hadn't even realized he had reached his limit. After completing the final card and handing it to Talia, he simply lowered his head and fell asleep on the table.
Talia looked at the stack of magic cards on the table, which also served as the test results—
Aside from [Mental] magic, [Healing] magic was also quite good. Among all the elemental magics, only [Light] was passable, but not exceptionally outstanding.
As for the other minor magic types, most of them showed unfavorable compatibility, similar to the [Curse] and [Poison] types that Talia had initially guessed.
However, there was one card among them that stood out. It bore the mark of colorless runes and shone with a brilliant radiance, distinct from the rest.
This was proof of an excellent affinity.
After testing Lanchi with all the magic types that could be categorized, Talia had indeed found the one that he had an exceptional affinity for.
She picked up the card, her expression complex.
"How is it that this guy is most suited for [Seal] magic..."
She looked at Lanchi's innocent sleeping face and felt that his 'newborn' level, which had already been quite high, would rise even further after this card-making session.
