Chapter 918: A Stalemate Situation
Chapter 918: A Stalemate Situation
Rolf inwardly sighed with a bitter smile. He had only come out to capture the Thunderbird, thinking it would be a regular capture quest. Instead, he ended up in a fight with Grindelwald and now found himself at odds with the French Ministry of Magic. This was just his luck...
"So it seems you're determined to oppose all of France's wizards?" the French Minister of Magic sternly rebuked.
Bruno and the other Aurors immediately drew their wands...
Just as the battle was about to break out, a smile appeared on Aires' face. He watched the scene with a playful expression.
However, at that moment, the tightly closed door was suddenly pushed open.
The sound of the door opening defused the tension in the room. The French Minister turned around, furious, and glared at the Auror who had dared to interrupt them. He had specifically instructed that no one was to disturb them at this time.
"Minister of Magic, Sir, the British Minister of Magic, Pierce, and the Director of the International Confederation of Wizards, Cornell, are here to see you... They say it's a very urgent matter and they need to meet with you immediately!" the Auror nervously reported.
The French Minister frowned, casting a suspicious glance at Ivan and Rolf. He didn't believe in coincidences, so they must be here for these two.
"Take them to the Reception Hall... and tell them I have important matters to attend to!" the French Minister quickly decided, intending to force Ivan and the others to comply before dealing with the situation.
But they are already outside... The Auror opened his mouth to speak, but before he could, the office door was pushed open again!
"Old friend, it's been a long time!" Pierce said cheerfully, completely ignoring the French Minister's sour expression and extending his hand warmly.
"Long time no see, Pierce, Director Cornell", the French Minister forced a smile, reluctantly shaking Pierce's hand while giving the Auror a harsh look.
The Auror was helpless. Both Pierce and Cornell were high-ranking officials, and no one dared to offend them. With the claim of urgent business, they had brought people and forced their way in, and there was nothing he could do to stop them.
"By the way, why didn't you let me know in advance? I could have made some arrangements. I have important matters to handle right now..." the French Minister tried to politely dismiss them.
"That's perfect, we also have urgent matters to discuss with you..." Pierce seized the opportunity to continue, then, as if just noticing Ivan and the others, he said in surprise, "Hals, what are you doing here?"
"Minister of Magic Pierce, it's like this", Ivan replied calmly. "Rolf and I were on a mission to capture the Thunderbird when we unexpectedly spotted Grindelwald. We followed him into the Master's Tomb, and during the ensuing battle, an accident occurred that teleported us to the skies above Paris, causing quite a bit of commotion..."
Ivan succinctly explained the events, confident that Pierce would understand. He had already used a Magic Mark to inform Pierce of what had happened here, which is why Pierce had coincidentally brought people to the scene.
"I apologize, Minister of Magic, Sir. It seems our people have caused you some... minor trouble!" Pierce said with a look of regret, then quickly added, "But we have some important matters to discuss as well."
"However, regarding Grindelwald, I believe Lord Hals and Mr. Scamander have done more than enough. We can't overlook their contributions just because of an uncontrollable accident!"
"Of course, if you can't handle the riots in Paris and need some reinforcements, Britain's wizards are more than willing to offer help!" Pierce suggested enthusiastically.
"No need, we can handle it ourselves!" The French Minister replied stiffly, his face dark. They would not let Britain's wizards see them in a difficult situation, no matter what!
"Good to hear you can manage. In that case, we'll take our leave!" Pierce waved to Ivan and the others, preparing to lead them away.
"Wait!" The French Minister, unwilling to be fooled, stopped Ivan and the others. "Apart from the riots, there's another important matter they haven't explained. We know Grindelwald entered that tomb to obtain a treasure. I suspect that item is now in their possession."
"That's impossible! Minister, you must be mistaken!" Pierce shook his head, looking at Ivan. "In fact, Lord Hals is a distinguished disciple of Nicolas Flamel. He has no reason to steal any treasure from the tomb."
"Is that so? I didn't know when Nicolas Flamel took on a new student. Who can prove it?" The French Minister questioned.
"I can vouch for it! The late Headmaster Dumbledore mentioned it to me. I can guarantee Hals's identity!" Pierce affirmed, then turned to Cornell. "Director Cornell, what do you think?"
"Indeed, the President of the International Confederation of Wizards mentioned this to me. He is a close friend of Master Flamel." Cornell responded succinctly.
Ivan looked at Cornell in surprise. The sudden appearance of the North American Magical Congress's Head and his unexpected support were truly unexpected.
Others might not know, but Ivan was well aware that Nicolas Flamel had kept his disciple a secret to prevent Voldemort from using the information to find the safe houses. That's why he hadn't used this identity to explain himself earlier.
As for revealing the Philosopher's Stone to prove it, that was out of the question. If the French Minister accused him of stealing it from the tomb, he would have no way to defend himself.
The French Minister's expression was unreadable. While the truth of Pierce and Cornell's words was yet to be determined, it was clear they were determined to protect Ivan Hals.
One Britain was one thing, but with the combined pressure from North America and the International Confederation of Wizards, even as the French Minister of Magic, he had to carefully consider his next move.
As the situation reached a stalemate, an Auror standing at the back of the crowd secretly raised his hand, pointing his wand hidden in his sleeve at Ivan Hals...
But before he could cast a spell, a hand reached out from the side and stopped him.
